making a glove that won't stink

Recommended Posts

i've had my tps response gloves for about a year now. i have to say that they might be the most odor'iffic things i've ever owned. no matter how i air them out or clean them, they just come back to haunt me with the most awful smell ever. i've never had this problem before with my other gloves; mission, itech, bauer. what i'm getting at is: if you were to make a glove, what materials could you use that would be most likely to prevent or lessen odor? palms, lining, etc....somewhat lame topic, but i'm curious.

Try any Eagle glove with the Stay Fresh Package.

I use to have the same problem until I decided to air my gloves out of the bag. Every time I am done playing they come out until they are dry.

Since then I have used Hespeler, Nike, Eagle, and Easton. I have not had this problem with any of these gloves.

Furthermore to my comment above, I went out and found a hair dryer that has a cold setting on it. As soon as I get home, the gloves go on the dryer. The cold air will not dry out the palms.

I got a PVC pipe, put in two "T's" on it with a cap on the end. I put each glove on the end of the "T" and let the dryer do it's thing.

Since doing this about 10 years ago, I have never had to use any deodorant, or, shaving cream with lanolin (which works best to remove smell, which the smell is actually bacteria) on my gloves.

I tend to use the hair dryer on cold method also. I do it with all my equipment and they tend to stay smelling good for a while.

Hmmm I have tried almost everything, Febreze, airing out, even outside, crumpled newspaper, and NOTHING works for me, and it has to suck, even though I am used to it, my mother isn't, every time before she goes to work, she almost vomits from the smell, and i keep my stuff clean

Airing outside, especially in the sun, is one of the worst things you can do. The bacteria gets baked into the palm material.

I believe my entire gig, hair dryer, PVC pipe and fittings cost $15, but that was 10 years ago. Trust me, it works. I still have gloves from 10-15 years ago. If you were to see some of them, you would think they were almost new!

Outside of that, see if you can find a Sani Sport machine. Those things work wonders!

I'm with Marcelo on this one. I've been through alot of gloves (as most of you here know) and by far the best gloves to prevent stink-o were the H34/35 with the stay fresh package.

They are just unbelievable, I used a pair of 35s all year last year and the things smelled BRAND NEW the entire time. I didn't have an elaborate drying method like Marz, just a rack to hang them on and they were just unstinkable it seems.. If I could get an all goat split-finger set I think I'd be in heaven...

now my vapor XX that I've taken a liking to for the past 7 months or so stink like a hobo in July... just aweful and I can't get the smell out of them for anything.

Trust me when I tell you, my drying device is FAR from elaborate!

what's this stay fresh package? like a ziplock bag for gloves? also, what type of palm materials seem to...well, stink the worst over time if you didn't air them out.

Sorry for the confusion, no it's not a "package" that you put your gloves in, it's a package as in an option package for the glove (ie, like leather palms, split-fingers, etc.). I'll let Marcelo go into the nitty-gritty but basically eagle somehow fuses an antibacterial layer to the leather that prevents bacterial growth thus keeping the gloves less stinky.

No, it is not a ZipLoc bag. It is an anti-microbial treatment that eliminates odor with perspiration resistance, thus being breathable and quick drying, with stay soft results. Make sense?

I have a pair of R2s that are getting pretty nasty and I air mine out after every game.

It is something that is done by Pittards for us.

Hey Marcelo, would I be able to get my x70s repalmed with the stay fresh palm? And if so, how much would it run me?

that's my problem. i take my response gloves out after every skate and the reek still. even if i dry them in by a heater.

this eagle thing sounds interesting. of course getting that in a 16" glove custom will probably cost me an arm and a leg.

That is something that you should ask Northern Sports Repair or 800.GOFIXIT.

Using a heater is making your problem worse!

I put my gloves in the freezer every once in a while and that seems to kill whatever is causing the smell. It does make the ice cream taste like crap though. :P

My son is currently testing some skates with this kind of lining. Cabrille material, treated.

Also I have some commercial antibacterial spray called "Contact N" made by a company called "Vaportec" that works very well. It destroys the bacteria that causes the odor. You need to use this stuff about evey third use. Works for all the equipment.

if you guys are looking for something cheap and easy to get rid of equip smell... my brother and i heard about this combo from a couple equip mgrs.

50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and wintergreen rubbing alcohol (green). mix them together and put it in a spray bottle. works pretty damn good.

peroxide kills the germs, and wintergreen kills the smell.
