Jock shorts help!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I'm new to the forum, so first of all - hello!

So after a few years, I'm going back to hockey. The last time I played I used to wear the garter/cup, but have just purchased some jock shorts, as I liked the idea of the velcro!

All I want to know is, does anyone wear the shorts over long legged sweats? I have always had to wear something under my hockey socks due to itchiness and don't think I could cope wearing just shorts and nothing under my shin pads!

All help appreciated!!

Cheers folks!

I wear Under Armour hockey liner socks on my feet & they pull up to the bottom of my knee area, then I have Shock Doctor compression shorts with the jock built in & the velcro sock attachments. There is virtually no skin exposed for the hockey sock to touch. There are a few guys on my team that wear hockey tights to cover their whole leg, but I have yet to see anyone wear pants under their gear.

You've already ordered the shorts, but you may want to look into something like these instead. I have a pair and I can recommend them highly. Great for keeping calves warm without causing overheating problems.

Hey lonestar,

Thanks for the reply!

How do you mean pants? So people don't wear long legged sweats under their gear? When I used to play, a lot of people did. I'm being a noob again lol! I purchased a 2 piece sherwood sweats and though I would wear jock shorts over the top. Guess that's wrong :/

My av says the site is malicious... :/ what is it you're talking about? They like socks?

Malicious, weird. It was a link to the Hockey Monkey listing. Not socks, but essentially full-length compression jock pants instead of shorts. Same as the shorts but they go to the ankles, and they have rubberized stuff on the knees/shins to keep your pads from slipping, which is handy.

If you google "Graf performance tight fit legging" you'll find them somewhere.

I know that Bauer, Easton and Reebok all have long compression pants with built in cup and with velcro attachments. You could get a pair of those or I've seen lots of guys wear jock shorts over the long pants.

Ok thanks for the replies guys!

Yeah so I'm guessing people don't wear sweats under their gear anymore? Weird! Lol

Just don't wanna look a tool and out jock shorts over the long pants and look a 'fewl'

I get Starter performance pants from walmart for like $12. I just wear an Under Armour loose jock short over them. It has a cup and Velcro tabs. This method works for me.

I have always worn the simple Bauer shorts with jock built in and Velcro for the socks, Underneath the shorts I wear Under Armour.I think anything more than that "pants" would be really bulky. Under Armour, as well as lots of other companies, sell lots of leggings that might be better for you.

My wife got me some of those polypro pants from Target and they work fine when it's freezing in the rink. However, I tend to get hot so I just wear the shorts without leggings or pants. But if you go to Target and those thin, polypro things, they work fine

Ok awesome, so if you don't mind me asking, what do people use the sweats for? They sell them on all the hockey sites... Bauer Etc make them

One key thing I've realized with jock shorts is how much better and more comfortable the ones where the cup goes on the INSIDE are. Eg:

THIS:

Insead of this:

Holds the cup closer to your body, so there is never any movement/shifting/pinching.

Just food for thought for you or anyone else looking for jock shorts :)

No not tracksuits! They're in undergarments sections in hockey shops.

I have these. http://www.icelocker.co.uk/sherwood-1-5/sherwood-2-piece-senior-sweats

They're like long john's and I would wear shorts over them. I thought that was the idea :/ lol

Aha, there's the problem, different ideas of what 'sweats' or 'sweatpants' means. Yes, I would say plenty of people wear long johns/leggings/long underwear under their jock.

I wear a pair loose of rbk jock shorts and usually get by fine with long or short underwear under those.

Hey, there's a number of non-Americans on the forum, I'm sure one of them would've stepped in before we all got into a flame war over undergarments...

Haha - a flame war about undergarments... Now that could be unsightly!

I've played with a few guys over the years that wore long hockeyjock pants, the WSI ones hold up pretty well. I used to wear a pair of Puckskin pants under or over my compression shorts/hockeyjock when I reffed too.

All the rinks I play in, I can't imagine wearing an under layer below my gear, it would be way too hot. I've even experimented with not wearing a shirt under my jersey, but that didn't feel right...

I get really sore hips when I play so I started wearing the UA hockey core shorts Pro. They made a big difference for me in supporting my Hips. It has the internal jock/cup and is really comfortable. It looks like they've discontinued them though because they are nowhere to be found...no one else that I've found makes a heavy duty version like those.
