Tuuk Edge Holder

Recommended Posts

I have had the apx 2s sense they came out april 2013. Recently I noticed that one of my skates had a bit of a raddle to it. I could tell it was in the holder where the trigger was on my right skate. last time I sharpened my skates, When I went to put the skate blade in, it wouldn't stay in. I noticed that the trigger was not out as far on this skate as it was on my other skate.

I was at practice, so I pushed hard a couple times and it seemed to stay in. When I got home to look at it more carefully, I noticed the blade wouldn't come out. Eventually I pulled it out with plyers, and there was a screw (looks like a screw with no head, that is hollow in the middle) in the way. I pulled the screw out, and tried to put my steel back in, but it wouldnt stay again... I am able to pull the triggler closed all the way with no steel in there, but with the steel in there I am unable to.

Does anyone know what this screw is that came out? Does anyone know if the tuuk is fixable? Should I just replace the tuuks? Also, can you buy just one? or do you have to buy two? and if thats the case, should I just replace them both?

Please let me know what you think, and any feedback you can offer. Thanks!!!

No head, hollow in the middle. Sounds like it's a rivet?

Make sure the front portion of the blade is aligned properly otherwise the blade won't click in.

If you end up having to replace the holder you can change just one. With holders it is ok as long as you are replacing it with the exact same model and size. Not sure what it will cost at your local shop but mine charges $34.99 for the parts and $20 for labor ($10 to remove and $10 to mount).

How easy is it to replace the holder? Like Should I worry about who I have to it? or is it something that any pro shop should be able to handle

there is a screw on the inside of the holder right where the trigger is it may have come lose , could be why the blade is not sitting in tight , the screw holds a tension piece of the trigger

after re reading your post its the screw I was talking about for sure its an allen key screw it goes right where the trigger is on the inside of the holder

That sounds right to me... Is there anything I can do? or do I just have to replace the holder?

I had them added to my nxgs so mine has a hole but if your skates don't then have your local hockey shop take the holder off and put the screw back in no biggie I doubt you need a new holder

I'd go back there and have them replace it. Hokders have a year warranty; while you might be past it, they should be able to accommodate you in this instance.

Went to the place I bought them, They did not offer to fix it for me. They gave me the option of new holder or try to fix it. The cost of the new holder was $35 with free install, to try to fix it, they were charging $2 per rivet, 14 rivets, $28. I went with the new holder. I have the old one though, and its def easy to fix. I guess ill just try to sell it used or hang on to it just in case.

So your LHS was unwilling to make a simple fix to the $800 skates you purchased from them, just because you were slightly passed the warranty period? It's this type of nickel and diming that is killing the LHS. They had the chance to make you happy for virtually no cost to them, but they wanted the few bucks they could make from selling you a holder. If I'm in your shoes, that shop never sees another penny from me!

Don't know if I would consider that nickel and diming. If they were charging for basic helmet screws or plastic bags that would be a different story.

It's no different than bringing your car back to the dealer 5 months past the warranty period and expecting them to fix everything and provide the parts/labor for free.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but I respectfully disagree. To me it's more like a dealer saying, "Oh, your air filter is loose?, Well, you can buy a new one for $50 installed, or we'll charge you $45 labour to open and close the hood for you, but you might need a new air filter anyway. If you need a new one, that will be another $40, it's your choice.". I just see it as a missed opportunity for his LHS to build some goodwill with no real cost to do so. At most, just charge him for the cost of new rivets, no labour or markup. He probably didn't need a new holder, but the LHS made him buy one because it wasn't cost effective to pop it off and see if it could be fixed. Just my two cents.

Totally agree with you, I did buy them in april 2013, so It was several months sense the warrenty had ended. There are no real hockey stores in the area, so they just take advantage of their customers.

Several months after warranty expired? They are not taking advantage of you. Suck it up, warranty expired, pay what it takes to fix the problem, the shop you bought them from is not responsible to fix your skates for free forever. Jeeze.

$28 to pull and remount one holder is ridiculous! I know you're a shop owner so your reply is not unexpected. You are free to charge what you want and I'm free to believe its BS.

For the record I did not want a new holder for free, I just wanted them to take the holder off, and see if we could fix it, and if it could, just remount the holder for free... Maybe I am crazy.

also... I did pay....

Some people here must work in industries or businesses where things with costs or labor attached are regularly given away for free. I'd like to know where some of these places are - because even my mechanic charges me a shop supply surcharge, and the pizza place down the street charges for extra pepperoni.

I worked with the guys from that rink last season. I found them to be very accommodating. Bought a stick and it broke in the first game. Says right on the stick no exchanges. So he did it anyway and then the 2nd broke 2 games later. He wouldn't exchange the 2nd but gave us a sweet deal on a stick one model up. Player loved the first stick got a hat trick in that game. But overall they seemed very fair.

Me personally I would probably try and get warranty for that holder. Or have the customer call and complain directly. Sometimes in some cases that works better if they really feel it is something that shouldn't have broken so close to warranty? Any others having that issue?

I would've done the same thing. At the store level, we should be the ones investigating those matters (sticks are a different story), as opposed to having the customer call the manufacturer themselves.

this is completely different than either of those situations. You probably didn't purchase your car from the mechanic, and your getting charged for extra pepperoni on a pizza you haven't yet purchased. I think what people are trying to illustrate is that this was an excellent opportunity for that shop to provide an above and beyond service at limited cost to them, and instead they didn't even offer the guy some sort of deal or break on the service performed. Of course they don't have to provide these services, and the guy obviously already paid for the service, but it's an opportunity to have a satisfied customer wasted.

Well as a mechanic myself I can honestly say I have given customers extra for free because they already spent a lot on the product/install and if it isn't living up to its standard then I feel it is my duty to provide good service, and stick behind something you sell or install, just because you buy something with a 1 year warranty doesn't mean it is supposed to break after 1 year, those timelines are their because if there was a defect hopefully it will show up before that period but that is not always the case.
