CCM Jetspeed Skates

Recommended Posts

From experience these are the worst skates I have ever worn and here's why:

I've had the skate for around 6 weeks and cannot stand them, thankfully they were free from a warranty replacement in my tacks. The boot itself I find provides no ankle support and have noticed it hindering my ability to make transitions and keep up with play. Also I've had to replace most of the eyelets as they have become bent and broken just from tying the skate up. They are giving me a Bauer bump on the outside of my foot above the ankle bone and even after heat moulding them 4 times it is still there. I went with superfeet and experienced terrible cramping on the arch and thinking it was the insole I tried the stock insole but that proved no help.

Before these I was in tacks (only skates they had in a size 12) and before those I was wearing an apx2

Just thought I'd let you guys know what I feel of them haha

Also forgot to mention that the tendon guard is already soft as can be

Sorry, but your opinion doesn't hold much weight when you don't even know which cut of skate fits your foot correctly......

Jetspeed 280s here, fit very similarly to Bauer Supreme sizes as both have very little arch and can work around my flat feet. Both very stiff, very similar heel profile, and wearing Jetspeed 280s is a very similar experience in foot shape to my old supreme 4000's.

I've had no problem with ankle support as mentioned above, I've even stopped lacing the top eyelet, and can lace the mid foot a little looser to accommodate the arch.

I'm taking them to LHS to get them re-profiled and rebaked tomorrow. If LHS has CCM low arch insoles in my size I will buy them, if not it's superfeet black for me. the stock insoles are terrible, and I'm going as low volume as possible,

All that being said, in hindsight I very much should have gotten Tacks. I have to work around what little arch is built into the Jetspeed because of it; and I will get Tacks inlines. Jetspeed is definitely not terrible though, for wide flat feet. I just got impatient and got slightly the wrong skate.

Just picked up a pair of 290's. Can't go wrong with the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. :)

They fit very similar to Supremes out of the box, but a half size down for me, (7D in Jetspeed, 7.5D in Supreme). While the are very similar, they're not identical boots. I can tell because something about the Supreme Boot forces my feet to supinate, but the Jetspeed doesn't do that to me.

I tried on the 280, 290 and Jetspeed, and found very little difference in the fit of the 3.

These are very stiff skates. Not Bauer stiff, but pretty damn close. I ended up using the 30 day guarantee, because they just weren't right for me.

Having said that, if they fit you correctly, they are fantastic skates. The build quality is top notch and right on par with Bauer.

Which jetspeeds for me.......

I'm a rec league player

Play 2-3 times a week (usually 2 vs 3)

5'8 200 lbs

Was previously in mako 2's. Thinking about the 300 or 290. Leaning toward 290. Pros cons? Is the fit the same between these? I know some skates vary a little as you go down the line. The ankle lock, depth and over all fit is what I like about these most.

Seeing if anybody had insight since they been out. Most likely leaning toward 290

I had the 290's and thought they were fantastic. Plenty stiff for 2-3 times per week. Have nice features for that price point too, such as comfort edge which is usually only on top of the line models.I saw nothing about the 300's that made them worth the extra cash. Even though they didn't work for me in the end, I would not hesitate to recommend the 290's. They're a fantastic skate and quite possibly the best value available at that price point.

Would you guys recommend a Jetspeed 290 over an older but high-end model like CCM U CL? I am still using my Vector Pro -05, a fantastic skate. Does anybody know which of the newer model CCM who closely resembles the Vector?

I have a difficult to fit foot. Tried the Jetspeed because CCM offered the 30 day satisfaction guarantee on the whole line, not just the top model. Really liked the skate, but had some fit issues that didn't reveal themselves until I got on the ice.

Got it. I demo'd them once. Felt good. I am a size 6 with a narrow ankle/foot but high instep. These are one of the only skates that fit me right. Supreme, vapor, ribcor....I bust out the top of all of them. Tacks and rbz too wide. Nexus wasn't even deep enough. And it funny, 6 in Jetspeed almost too long but Bauer 6 too short, Bauer 6.5 too long after broken in.

Don't have experience with the Jetspeeds but that CCM U+ line was plagued with durability issues. Whenever I sharpen customers' U+ skates, they'll almost always have a fold/crease forming from the middle laces to the heel and the eyelets always break. The outter material on those skates were not strongly reinforced. Wouldn't recommend U+ CL unless you're not very heavy, they're soft for a high end skate and will fold under too much constant weight within 1-2 seasons.

Just purchased a pair of Jetspeeds, and I am in love. The narrow heel and high instep fits my foot perfectly. They were the first brand new skate Ive used without any pain.

Would recommend x1000

Is it any point in bying the 300 over the 290?

Guess that depends on what you're looking for in a skate. It's a big upgrade. Rocket frame quarter, better liner, better tongue, better outsole. But to get that, you're adding 50% total cost to the skate. I'm not saying that is worth your $200, but I'm REALLY CLOSE to pulling the trigger on new skates and it's worth mine(if I bought JetSpeeds, back and forth, may wait for new Supremes or closeout 190's).

That said, when I bought my daughters skates, it wasn't for her...she wears 290's.

What do all those upgrades mean in lay men's terms mean? I'm debating between the 300 and 290 as well. Will the average adult rec league dude like me notice the $200 in upgrades?

Just a few pointers on the upgrades from the 300 to the 290 for those who are debating which one to get.

The outsole on the 300 uses more stiff materials than the one on the 290, so it's better suited for your energy transfer with every stride.

The liner in the 300 is clarino, very proven, durable and comfortable.

Rocket Frame quarter means there is a high definition shape to skate, using the top and lightest materials, just like in the top end JetSpeed. The 300 uses different machinery to precisely shape the skate and create an excellent heel lock, ankle lock and a snug, contoured forefoot. The 290 also has a great fit, but uses more traditional technology, machinery and materials.

The tongue in the 300 uses multiple layers of materials for a super comfortable feel and lacebite protection.

Both skates are excellent choices, (of course I would say that, right?). If it's any help, i would say that the 300 is a top end skate at a more reasonable price than the norm, and the 290 is today's very best in mid-end skates, using high-end construction quality from just a couple years back.

I hope this helps!

Are the JetSpeeds not as deep/volume as the Supremes? Trying on today, seemed like I'd be really close with depth/volume, though I was in 10.5D with the JetSpeeds, would go 11EE. No issues with depth/volume with Supremes.

The jump from the 290s to 300s seems pretty significant! Does that hold true between the 300s and the top model?

Hi Jimmy, yes this would also apply for the upgrades on the top model in comparison to the 300. The top model Jetspeed has the top end super dry liner, a lightweight carbon composite outsole, the Hyper Glide blade and comes with the CCM footbed with low, medium or high arch customization.

How is everyone finding the Jetspeed's (top model) for lateral stiffness vs forward flexion? What top end skates would they be compare best to stiffness and flex (forward) wise?

Is there higher profile Steel available for Jetspeed from CCM directly? Like on Bauer you can get LS3 steel vs stock blade.

Or they already come with a 4mm higher blade as standard? If so how does it compare to LS3 height?

I have to say that I agree with Kovalchuck71. I tried these on for kicks and really liked them. I currently wear Supremes and have to say that as much as I like my Supremes I have not found a skate with a heel lock like this (for my foot) since the Easton S15's way back when. I found it to have a great wrap and feel. I guess my only concern is how they will feel when turning. I say this because the toe box is tighter than what I'm used to in the Supremes. Nothing crazy but still not what I'm used to. BTW; I wear these in the same size as my Supremes.

Any more feedback from people who been using these. I'm going to get the 300 or 290 this summer....or any reason to wait for the next gen?

If you wait until Summer and you'll have the Bauer 1S skates to think about as well.
