Hockeylifestyle 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 I have a little problem so I decided to ask the people of this nice forum. I am able to purchase the Bauer supreme 190 from my local hockey shop in my size and it fits perfectly; no pressure points, toes barely touch the end. The employees told me the Bauer supreme 180 have the same exact fit just don't have a few upgrades that the 190 has. They don't have the 180's in my size but I can order and it'll be there in a week. Should I bite the bullet and buy the 190's? Is it really worth the $200 dollar price increase for those mini specs? PS: I play high school varsity hockey (on the ice about 4-5 hours a week)Thanks! mickz 107 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 The 180 is plenty of skate for most people. Whereabouts are you located? I am in Canada and the local Source For Sports and Sports Excellence stores here carry a SMU skate instead of the 180. Source For Sports calls it the Supreme One Matrix while Sports Excellence has the Supreme LTX Pro+; they both have the same specs though. This skate has the Supreme 180 boot but with the same tongue and outsole that comes standard on the 190. At the same price point as the 180, this is a better value buy.

Broke em down so much there was no padding left inside lolThe 180 is plenty of skate for most people. Whereabouts are you located? Will this padding break Down quicker? I just like that it has the grip it has on my ankle.
mojo122 535 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 There are many upgraded features in the 190:Hydra Max liner with comfort edgeThicker felt tongue with a better lacebite protectionComposite outersoleLS3 steelFree Flex tongueSlightly better footbedIf you're foot has stopped growing I'd opt for the 190. If not, the 180 is a good option/value seeing that it still offers Curv.
althoma1 574 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 If you look and/or are patient you should be able to find the 190 at clearance or sale prices that come close to the original 180 prices or lower. A new Supreme line should be coming out in the spring so the old line will need to be cleared out. I've seen signs of that locally in Canada with the 190 skates being $350 from Dec 26-28. I know the MSRP is $699, but if it's not urgent and you can wait for the right deal you can probably pick them up over the next few months for around $400 or less. I'd keep my eye on sales and then when you find a good one go to the LHS where you got fitted and see if they can match it or at least come close. I wouldn't pay full pop for a skate that will be replaced in the lineup and will be on sale at most places in the next few months.
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 I would go for the 190. I have the 180, and it's kind of in a weird place with features from both the higher end stuff and lower end. My main beef with them is the tongue. It's the same or almost the same as the lower models, meaning its thin and doesn't have any stiff lace bite protection like the upper models. Yet, it has the stiffer curv composite which the wimpy tongue just cant hold up to. Mine broke down along the top laces almost totally after like 3 skates and gave me bad lacebite. I put gel pads in the tongue and that fixed the issue, but still.
EJB 488 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 I am in that holding pattern as I type..... Need new skates bad, just waiting it out, don't want to pay a premium for skates that will be cleared out in a few months. Who knows, maybe when I see the 1S equivalent of the 190, I'll pick that up, but at least I'll have Bauer's newest tech(whatever that means) vs old model at relatively same price. Dizzyg12 27 Report post Posted January 5, 2016 I went with the 190 specifically because the tongue was much better than the 180. I could have lived with the liner and the different steel, and even a stiff tendon guard instead of the flex guard, but the tongue was just too flimsy on the 180 for how stiff the boot is. But fit wise they are exactly the same

Heck, you guys in the States should come up here now. $350 CAD is like what, $10 USD right now? :P

Great deal. A $20 off $100 or more Sport Chek team assist coupon could've potentially brought that down to $330 CAD with no tax...which is about $236US right now according to a CAD to USD conversion tool. Now that deal is dead and I don't think anyone has a time machine, but it's a good bench mark for future deals.
TyVan27 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2016 What is the difference between 48 ounce tongue on 180s vs. 52 ounce tongue on 190s?
Dizzyg12 27 Report post Posted January 6, 2016 The tongue on the 180 is thinner and uses a high density foam metatarsal guard (that's the piece that's kind of flimsy IMO). The 190 has a thicker tongue and the metatarsal guard is plastic - curv composite I believe. They are the same as far as being 3 piece but the 190 is thicker and with the plastic guard it's much stiffer and offers more support, structure and lace bite prevention
tpedersen3118 58 Report post Posted January 7, 2016 I was in the same spot. Ended up going with the 190. The upgrades from the 180 sold me, especially the tongue. The other hing into iced was the boot, it seemed stiffer to me than the 180, but not as stiff as the old One95's I was coing from. That deal for $350 made me sick. I feel like I should buy another pair for when my current 190's need to be replaced. Love these skates.
TyVan27 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2016 On the MX3 and 190 Supreme skates, what material is the comfort edge made out of? It's a really nice addition to the skates.
