Timber 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 It will be interesting to see if Reebok follows Nikes lead in quickly coming out with Reebok branded hockey gear. I'm having a tough time imagining a Reebok OPS, but then again, I would have said the same thing about Nike a few years ago. Thanks for the info Murphy. jay 1 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I have a feeling the first thing we'll see is the Reebock logo (instead of CCM/Koho) on the backs of NHL jerseys.
mack 44 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I wouldn't mind that so much because I have an old Canada WJC jersey that had the Reebok logos on the shoulders and it's not that bad on there. Better than a Swoosh.
steve66 45 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 its gonna be a bit sad if THC brands disappear. I just hope they don't tinker too much with the protective stuff. The reebok emblem on uniforms isn't so much of a problem, and the extra cash available for r+d is mega bucks so lets see what they bring to the table... maybe the return of reebok pumps!?! yay
Shorthanded67 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 It's a personal preference, but I thought those CCM Tacks w/ the pump feature fit well. I like tight fitting skates and they seemed to work but I don't see anything like that making a comeback.Anybody remember the Reebok Pump Turkey commercial from Saturday Night Live about 10 years ago w/ Chris Rock? "You gotta pump it!"
JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 There's too much behind the names to get rid of them.My guess is that ALL apparel will be branded with the Reebok Vector...wow...both Reebok and CCM have a Vector...
mojo122 538 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Do you think they'll bring back the "Pump" Tacks?
mack 44 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I doubt it but I'd like it if they did. I had a pair and loved them, but they never seemed to move at the LHS. Seemed too gimmicky for people but they worked well for me. I think I still have them as rollerblades somewhere.

So you don't think Nike will ever phase out Bauer? I didn't think they would until they started releasing protective gear and more and more Bauer/Nike equipment is merging

I made the mistake of giving them away when I bought my Bauer 7000's.
Guest phillyfan Report post Posted April 8, 2004 In my opinion, this is both good and bad. Good, more influence globally to a more diverse public with Reebok, maybe now rather than shooting newspaper in a trashcan in the ghetto, kids will be influenced a bit more to pick up a hockey stick and shoot that newspaper into a trashcan. Bad, although it may help out some financial problems the leagues may have, I would hate to see a line of Jeremy Roenick Shoes, blue, red, black, green, orange, turqouise, ect, I'd like to let AI keep that job. I am curious as how buyouts like this work. Does CCM still manufacter the jerseys and such, and just slap a Reebok emblem on it? Or will Reebok take over the duties of producing and desiging equipment?

Nike's reputation doesn't carry well to hockey.Notice this year that it is working like it was supposed to be...Bauer products with Nike accents (dri-fit, zoom air)
JGraz15 53 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 So do you think Nike will get out of hockey and focus on Bauer or do they make enough to keep them both?
steve66 45 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I think it woul dbe a travesty if NIKE ever phased out bauer and the same with Reebok... too much tradition within the hockey community, and CCm is evidently very proud of it's longevity.. at least i'm hoping the brands will be around stillI reckon that reebok may just help to market the final products and add a larger public awareness... gonna be interesting to see anywho
JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 So do you think Nike will get out of hockey and focus on Bauer or do they make enough to keep them both? LOL...come on Graz...read my post...If you notice the 2004 Bauer/Nike lineup, there is LESS Nike and MORE Bauer. They're done away with the Nike pants, helmet and gloves...and incorporated its best features into the Bauer stuff.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 As JR said, all of the shirts and things will have the Reebok logo, that's what they do well. I doubt you'll see much change in the gear lines, though phasing out all non-goalie Koho stuff would be a start. Last I heard Nike was still looking to sell Bauer. JR Boucicaut 3804 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I wonder if Reebok will incorporate some of the technologies in their soccer jerseys into the hockey ones.

D3nZ 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Maybe Adidas should be on the moove too sometime. They make some hockey apparel for exemple Dalhousie University's hockey jersey, maybe they will try to jump in the equipment market sometime soon.
