New Bauer 3D Scanning/Custom Offerings

The second tier, PRO CUSTOM, allows the player to fully customize the specs of their skates, just like the pros. Here, they will have quarter-size length options for each foot, as well as ankle padding, eyelets, facing, toe caps, stretching, holders, steel, tongue, color, and personalization options. 

Just curious if anyone had any idea of timeline when it would be available, price point, if all current ‘game fit’ retailers would offer it etc? I assume there would be a big training component to retailers. 
 

I know my LHS actually brought out a CCM rep to do their ‘Total Custom Plus’ skates.

In my opinion, they should just do what the goalie market has been doing for years, which is offer total customization for no extra cost. The gear already costs a fortune, and people pay it. The fact that player skates don't use a similar model just tells me the demand isn't there. Most players just aren't that picky. 

When I had the store in Vegas, I would charge customers the same price for a total custom skate as I would for a top tier retail model. I made a little less on the sale, but then I didn't have to carry as many items in stock for inventory, and the customer got custom skates for the same cost. IMO, everyone wins in situations like this.

They had a demo of the new scanner with the new orthotics at the Minnesota State High School hockey tournament in March. My 11 year old tried it out and I was less than impressed with the results. They have you stand on the scanner like the old version, then they have you stride across the scanner which they say scans your gait. They have like 3ish 'stock' orthotic options they fit you into based on the scan. Concept was cool, I thought the results seemed pretty generic as my son's scan came back too big/wide.

The scanner is a good starting point.  Parents want a growth fit while there are adults that want the best performance fit while others that want a comfort fit. What it brings to retail is some consistency to the process.  In the past with the Brannock devices there was no guarantee that the user was using it as it was intended to be used.

Does anyone know if the Bauer pro custom option is a true 360 custom fit as they market it to be?

They all start with factory shell, with adjustments to foam placement, facings, etc. Overall, nothing has changed.

If you have foot issues; bone spurs, haglunds, etc. You should consider TRUE SVH customs.

If you don't have any foot issues, but have different sized feet, need minor adjustments to skate facings, etc. Then Bauer or CCM custom should be fine.

Is it at least like the Pro Stock offerings do you know? Where you can pair different heel widths, forefoot widths, and toe caps? 

ex : 7EEAT8 (7 length, EE width, A heel cup, 8 toe cap)

I know that is the downfall for myself with retail customs. My forefoot pushes me into a fit 3 but I have narrow heels and a narrow ankle wrap. So if the ‘Pro Customs’ are truly built like the way they’re offered to the pros that would still be an improvement yeah?

Anyone try the new insoles? I saw them in store and they felt pretty floppy like neoprene. Even the arch support was flexible and not firm at all. Like rubber. But I do realize once inside the boot the arch will press against the boot and provide more stability. Just curious as to whether anyone here actually tried them inside a skate. They also seem a bit thick, but not as thick as the true genetix which I didn't like.

FWIW, I'm going on 5 years on my customs and they're still in good shape. I'm pretty anal about taking care of them though. I pull the insoles out and remove the soakers to let them hang dry after every single skate. I had the stock holders on them up until 2 months ago, swapped them for XS holders. Never had to replace any rivets on the holders. Only issue I've had is having to replacing the rivet on the tendon guards a couple times on each skate. I'm on the ice 4-5 times a week.

Go to a shop that uses stainless steel oval head semi-tubular rivets and all of those issues should go away.

I have tried them and was not impressed. I still think the Bauer Speed Plate is the best hockey insole I have ever used.

Agreed. Just looking and handling the new insoles I didn't have a great impression

Out of the box they're comfortable.  First time I used SuperFeet they hurt and took an adjustment period of a few skates for them to become comfortable.  I like the fact that they're sized specifically by skate size (1,2,3 etc through 12) as opposed to a range.  I also have found that I often have to size up with SuperFeet to accommodate heel width.
