This is why the only way to go for a custom skate is True. Every other "custom" skate is just a fancy retail skate. I'm annoyed I wasted money on custom CCMs that I can't even use but I'm stuck with. I won't stray from True going forward.

For the vast majority of people the pro custom option from ccm and Bauer work. CCM tends to make their pro customs like how they do for actual pro players but I'm still a bit skeptical about bauer. I'm sure NHL players can get whatever they want that us peasants aren't privy to.

As for true, I've never had issues with the three pairs that I've had in terms of fit, but you hear some real horror stories. However, sometimes there's scanning errors etc. The thing about true is they are way more likely to help you resolve your issue than ccm or Bauer.

Currently I'm using retail machs and I love em. I'm hoping next year's Supremes will go back to a more normal ish toecap and the fit doesn't stray much.

No, I mean more like turning a Fit 1 into a Fit 0. Can I just tell them that? Lol.

I don’t know the thresholds for their customs, but NHL player customs are migrating to be made in Thailand, your retail customs may be the same. If that’s an important aspect for you.

From what I understand, whatever shell Bauer decides to use, the fine tune fitting will come down to the commercial molding process the shell is undergone to wrap around your 3d scanned last.  Custom pro mic uses the traditional c d e ee width measurements/shells. Not sure if they will adjust the facing to be optimal after this process so you don't have either too much or too little wrap after the shell has conformed to the last.

On a side rant, their retail custom is such a joke since you are strapped to their fit system. Like for me, my left is a 7 fit 1, but my right is a 6.5-6.75 but in the same volume as a 7 fit 1. I've tried a 6.5 fit 3 and 2 and both don't work as the fit 3 is too much volume and the fit 2 is too tight. But I digress.

This is why I want to know exactly what I can and cannot ask for. I don't have particularly strange feet, they're just closer to a Fit 0 than anything.

So the question remains: Can I ask for a Fit 0?

I'm amazed I have not been able to find an answer to this anywhere. Nobody seems to know. Anyone claiming to know, appear to be just speculating.

My primary concern is the final fit/finish. It doesn't really matter to me how it's achieved, if it's the same end result. People get hung up on this brand vs that brand, but if the skate fits, the rest is moot.

As I don't have the answer to the question of a Fit 0 I would simply ask my local pro shop or contact Bauer directly. If you still cant get an answer. May I suggest you make your life easy and and go with the new True SVH Customs where they actually build the skate from the inside out around your actual foot shape, Just a suggestion.

Because if the skate fits, I don't really care what marketing jargon is behind it.

I've skated in Bauer's for a very long time and I like how they perform on the ice. When I was in CCM's for a few months back when they did the 90-day trial, while they were a great skate, they were just too different for me. Might not make any sense if you're someone that can jump from brand to brand. I'm just not one of those people.

I have a feeling that the Pro Custom's will achieve what I'm looking for. But it would be nice to hear it from someone with actual experience. The local Pure Hockey employees are of no help.

Ok here you go. Directly from Bauer Hockey.

Hey Andrew, So No on a fit 0 however if you do Pro Custom through a retailer they can add notes and see your scan to take away as much space as possible.

No Problem, was this the route you were looking at to begin with?
10:44 am
yes but they couldn't guarantee a perfect fit.
10:45 am
Ok, yes it will require the retailer to add as many notes as possible to make sure it aligns with the scan.
10:46 am
If they don't fit correctly/ to my liking can I return them?
10:47 am
No returns on custom skates
We can re-work them but No returns

Haha thanks for that.

Sorry, maybe it got lost in translation. I wouldn't literally ask for a Fit 0. That's just how I would convey it.

The actual original question earlier in the thread was:

"...any EQM's or store owners/employees here that can tell me **exactly** what my options are? There isn't much literature out there. For example, if I want to move the facing inwards towards my foot, is that an option? How do I/they even quantify that with/on the scan? Same with the heel, forefoot etc. "

Either way I hope this at least helps. For what its worth I'm a huge Bauer fan myself and thankfully can get away with an incredible fit with the FIT 2 in my Mach Supremes. I have actually bought a second pair in fear that the next/newest wont fit the same.

I appreciate the effort.

I'm still interested in exactly how I am supposed to communicate all this to the retailer. Perhaps it's all just proprietary.

In their defense, Bauer does state on its website, "This customization option allows us to shape the interior of your skate to match the exact specs of your foot". Maybe I can't return them, but I would hold them to this claim.

As you should. The person at Bauer did say that as they will not take a return but that they will rework them. I think in all actuality, if they scan your foot and send the scan to Bauer with any additional comments/ notes they should be able to take care of you.

For SnG's, Maybe download the TRUE Foot scan App and take a photo of your foot through that and have them send that with the other info just to have all your bases covered.

I think looking at it in terms of the "fit" system may be the wrong angle. I know what you're trying to say when you say fit 0 as you want something with slightly less volume than a fit 1, but with custom pro, the fit system goes out the window as they use c d e with sizing etc. I would assume it would work for you since you can get different heel pocket sizes in relation to forefoot width and even toecap sizes.  Females generally have narrower feet and pro female players are getting custom skates from Bauer CCM true etc as well. You can even see some specs on hsm where the skates are and a heel c width etc.

I'm pretty confident that the process in which they make their skates for the pro customs will cater to what you want.  The curv composite shell can be manipulated quite a bit during the manufacturing process, way more than simple baking. It's literally pressure molding the shell to shape around your foot last.

But I get the hesitancy as there's no refund if they don't work out, and I have heard some people being SOL with Bauer customs.

There's one store near me that's has one pair of machs left. And they are my size. I've been humming and haaing over getting them since they fit so good.

I personally love everything about them. They are built like tanks and are my most comfortable skates to date. I was extremely bummed that they went away from this design as I feel the most power I have ever gotten out of a boot and love the comfort and protection of the tongues.

I am frustrated with how perfect my CCM's felt for a year and a half and now they absolutely mangle my feet... at least when True's broke down I could still skate with them back to back.

Ya I mean the only way they're going to get the skate to fit my foot last is by making a "fit 0" boot or else pressure molding the heck out of the fit 1 boot to actually match my foot. There's no foam that can go on the forefoot really. The Supreme line always fits my foot nicely right out of the box on account of the thick tongue not yet molding around the forefoot. But once it starts to compress, it's over for me.

Being that I skate a half-size down from what the scan says, and have even tried a full size down, I'm running out of options.

I'm probably going to take the leap on the Pro Custom's here as soon as I can try on the new Flylite's. Maybe there's a chance they shrunk the boot a little, though I doubt it.

I tried the Shadows. They were very much Supreme-line esque IMO. You don't like them?

I skated in custom Bauer's for over 10 years until I switched to True for my most recent pair - lost my ability to get Bauer's at cost so I moved on.

It's been about 4 years since I ordered but I used to just have my local shop ask the Bauer rep for the most updated excel spreadsheet for pro custom skates and I'd put the same info from previous, maybe just update the liner and holder.

The key back then was have someone who really knew what they were doing and how Bauer would do things fit you, at least on the first pair, to get them right.

From there, I would reference my previous order versions in the comments and ask to add 1/2" to the facing between eyelets 2-8 on both skates to increase volume in the forefoot, as some prestocel on the ankle padding/donut padding on one of the skates to help heel slip where my heel was probably slightly narrow for the skate, reinforced eyelets, etc.

You either need an experienced fitter, an experienced rep, or to be able to chat with customer service people (could do this back when they were made in St Jerome) to get what you want dialed in.

That said, that's how it was back then as recent as 2020, I have no idea how much of that is/isn't relevant anymore, but I'm not sure how well some of the big box retailers are clued in to any of that, if they have any idea at all.
