radius/contour

For those who have profiled skates, how do you profile your skates?

I briefly tried a compound radius from a place that had a computer cut predefined custom contours last year, but those were on skates that didn't fit me well. I was thinking of giving it another go after using 9' radius on my Grafs w/Cobras, but I'm not sure.

For those of you who profile/contour your skates, I'm curious what you are using and why.

I have adapted to the 11 that came on my S500s, I used to prefer 9. I even have 9-11 on my one pair of steel. I find no specific benefit to any particular profile for me.

Compounds are very rare on hockey skates. On figure skates, it is very common, so I'm sure the idea migrated from there. On figures, a "bulge" curve is placed right behind the toe pick, this is where the skater uses the blade for spins. It is usually a 12 to 14' radius. Then behind that is the main curve at 6-8' radius. This is used for edge work and landing area. Then the rear radius is very flat as well.

While I've never skated on a compound, I'm sure for some skaters it may provide a benefit. If someone has more detail on exactly what it does for hockey skating, that would be an interesting topic.

I use a 7 ft. radius simply because the guy didn't have an 8 ft. template.

Sharp turns are a breeze but sometimes I feel like it's true, that I lose a little on my glide.

hahah, I do.........size 6 skates.

I'm only about 5'7" 150lbs so I feel pretty nimble on that radius but again, I think lose a little in my glide.
