Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 385, downhill with a tailwind. I also drove a 427 yard par 4, but that was in drought conditions. No way I can do things like that on a normal day. On average I'm probably down to 285-290, I've lost a bunch of yards over the last couple of years as I haven't been playing as much. There's a par 280 yard par 4 back home that requires a 265 yard carry slightly into the wind. If I'm hitting it well, or there is no headwind, I go for it. Otherwise I lay up and hit an 8 iron and a wedge. Best distance on a normal hole was 310 uphill on the 18th hole, hit a 5 iron to the back of the green and missed the eagle putt on a 485 yard par 5. That was with a wood driver as well.Judging by the usual claims of 90+mph slappers by 12 year olds, I'm sure even my extremely abnormal distances will be rapidly surpassed. Dangles 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 325. Predator Ridge; Vernon BC. Osprey # 8. The hole is straight downhill and your ball will roll for 150 yards at least. My average is like 200-210 though on your average straight-away par 4.
ambro 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 325 was my longest without wind, but the 3 shots that followed totaled for less than 100 yards, so the drive was useless.
Z-Unit14 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 BC high school provs last year I came 3rd place in the long drive at 336 yds, but at Sun Rivers in Kamloops on hole 10 which is 546 yds I drove it to the 200 yd marker so around 346-350 yds. I did my average distance 3 times this year and it was 283, 281, and 289. I dont have any problem with distance just keeping it straight.

J-Shera 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 Ever since my car acciedent with a semi my distance has gone down, i lost alot of flexibility in my arm and my swing became shorter, im about average in my group, 260-270, thats if its straight of course, and recently, thats a challenge. lol
MDE3 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 In my 20's and 30's with the old wooden drivers and the balls of that time, I routinely hit the ball 300 yards +...At that time my best was when I drove greens of 375, and 380 yards, with average conditions. My carry at that time was 265 - 300 yards. Now it is 245 - 265(assuming I hit it solid).I have had a hole in one on a 304 yard par 4 (witnessed) I still routinely play a 465 yard "par 5" (short course) with a drive and 8 or 9 iron though. Shortest second iron on a goodly par 5...drive and 9 iron on a 535 yard par five ..The hole was flat off the tee for about 280 yards, to a long swale (down hill) but back uphill about 25 feet to the green on that hole. I caught the down side of the swale. The new equipment has helped offset my physical deficiencies due to age and infirmity. But I was watching Shell's Wonderfull World of Golf last year, and it was a match in and around 1957 between Tony Lima, and another golfer whose name I do not recall....Johanson maybe?...The other Pro was a body builder...During this match Lima drove consistantly between 265 and 310 yards, and this other Pro between 285 and 355 yards....not bad for the "old equipment"....Might have been "hardpan", but some of those long drives were into the rough too. I thought it was interesting...The course didn't look too burnt out in the old video, but the color was so weak it was hard to tell for sure. What discouraged me the most, was playing with a 16 year old kid, while I was still poking the ball pretty long in my thirties, who would fly it by my ball at about 310.... Yes, but I shoot the opposite way in golf than I do hockey. I know a lot of people that play hockey and golf, and I've never known anyone like that before :oOn a great connection i'll hit it a bit over 300, in a normal round of 18 I might have 3 drives like that. On a normal good shot I usually lay it 250-275. I'm not the best driver, but I'm a much better player than my friends who all just work on their drives and can pound it 290-300 with a fair bit of regularity. Then they whip out their irons and duff it, while I just poke her onto the green :D

LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted March 6, 2005 I usually hit my driver about 265 or so...Not too deep, and I usually end up putting a bit too much draw on it and the ball will end up off the left hand side of the fairway.BUT, I hit my 5-wood much farther (figure that one out...) with much better control. I'd say I average about 280 with the fiver (off the tee - only about 220 off the fairway), but once or twice a round I smoke it to 320 or 330...Unless I'm at the driving range, the driver usually stays in the bag. MDE3 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2005 I remember one time playing in California..I ended up in a threesome with Fred Williamson, at that time an actor, but maybe better known by his alias "the Hammer"..when he played for KC Chiefs. He hit the ball fairly solidly and was obvously used to intimidating other players with his strength. I was in my golfing prime, and knocked a couple of tee shots a little past him. At one point he said to me: "so you think you hit the ball a long way?" and then challenged me to a "long drive competition" for a $100.00 bucks... I said "in the fairway"..he said "no that's just for pu$$ies"...just whoever hits it the longest. As it happened, the first hole of the contest, was beside a six lane freeway which ran parellel to the hole and was on a long gentle grade falling away from the tee that appeared to run downhill for at least a mile. When I hooked it over the fence and down the freeway and saw my ball bounding high over cars and following the centerline of the freway, I busted out laughing so hard I was almost in tears...and so did he...we got along fine after that. We both figured that drive could easily have been over 1000 yards... :P
