JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Basically the store was slammed all morning and at one point I had 12 people waiting for various things. Guy comes in with a box of skates in one hand, another pair of skates in the other and holding a cup of coffee. I was honing a pair of skates and the guy spilled some coffee on the floor. I took my rag and tossed it on the floor where he dropped it. He gave me the skates, then said he'd be back in a couple of hours.I guess he picked up the rag and walked out and went to find a manager. He then told the manager that I threw a rag at him, he's not a punk kid and shouldn't be treated that way, and that he expects me to do them perfectly and he is NOT paying for any of it.He then comes back in the store and says "You know that rag you threw at me? Bob has it." Around 2:30 he comes back in. My afternoon guy is in, and i am helping out a customer. I told my guy what to do - if he doesn't pay, I will crossgrind the skates. If he does pay, thank him and tell him that his business is no longer welcome here. I marked the skates so that I know not to do them. He comes in, Craig hands him the skates, he takes off. I go "Not so fast. You need to pay." He starts talking again, dropping names of managers and whatnot. Then I tell him that I am going to crossgrind them. He is like "You're threatening me...I ain't no punk kid" and starts to walk off. I follow him and I find security and he's there screaming for a manager. The hockey director walks up and they start talking and whatnot, and of course, they tell me to go back to the store. Basically, the director lets him slide. The guy is going to write an email to the rink director, because he knows him (I guess this guy does some charity gig at the rink once a year) so I really do not know what is going to happen to me. I'm tired of getting shitted on there, so there is a good possibility I just might quit if I don't like what they tell me.
then00b 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 So the whole thing started because some idiot decided that he'd rather complain about something so petty instead of helping some guy who's extremely busy by using the rag to clean his own mess? Wow. Hope everything turns out for the best for you (whether you keep your job or not).
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 That sucks, JR. Hopefully things work out for you...
Cavs019 710 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 That bothers me. Hopefully the guy finds some morals and realizes he's making a scene over a measly accident.
Fletch 219 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 So did he end up getting the skates sharpened?
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Yes, the skates were done.
then00b 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 He comes in, Craig hands him the skates, he takes off. I go "Not so fast. You need to pay." I think that means he did indeed get them sharpened. Correct me if I am wrong.
the iceman 132 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 That guy sounds like a total insert-dirty-word-here. I hope everything works out.
lecavalier 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 That guy sounds self-centered to me.That sucks..people like that have no right to do things like that...I mean he spills his coffee and doesn't clean it?I guess he doesn't know how to clean up after himself.BTW who cleaned the floor?
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Yeah, I sucked it up and did them. It'll be strange not working in hockey anymore if it happens.I cleaned it.
then00b 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 There arent any other rinks or proshops around you'd care to work for JR?
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Closest store is Tampa, 90 mi away.
GekigangarIII 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 So this all stems from a guy who *thought* a rag was thrown at him when he spilled his coffee? And a pussy like this plays hockey?! I mean, I don't know about anyone else, but if I spill my coffee in a store, I ask an employee if they have a rag *I* can use to clean it up myself. So here's a question.. what are the odds that this name dropping piece of puke would have actually paid full price for his sharpenings if everything had gone perfect for him?? slim to none I'm guessing
mik3 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 It sucks that people who have a few zeros on their bank statement think they can do what they please. It sounds lame, but I believe in karma. This guy will get it at some point.
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 The shop/rink will get it too when I leave. I can assure you of that.
mik3 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Hey, if it means you truly getting out of working with hockey, I think you more than deserve a little bit of revenge. Because I doubt they'll get someone to replace you that'll bring business into the shop like you do (i.e. accords sharpenings), might not be keeping the place open, but every dollar counts. Sticks of Fury 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I don't they the rink will fire you. I mean you are standing up for your rink with your actions. He tried to get away without paying for it. In hindsight, I think you should have called a manager to explain the situation before the guy picked up the skates and let him handle it. The manager gets paid to do that. The manager knows he is an ass and can't really do much to a "customer". However, if you ever decide to get a dealer's licence and sell online, I am sure the ModSquad community will support you. Even if you did sharpenings. I even saw a shop on the internet that gets skates shipped to them and they sharpen it and ship it back.
JR Boucicaut 3803 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 MSH won't be tied in any store I would have. This is an informative website, not a clientele.I know the guy who does the mail-order sharpenings. He's not a bad guy. ;)
mickz 107 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I find this situation outrageous. There is no way you should be blamed for basically cleaning up after a customer. I hate people who are ingrates like this. I have a sense of how you feel JR since the managers (at any business) seem to be always on the customers side. So you threw a rag, boo hoo for him. It's not like you intended to hit him with the rag which would be a completely different story. If he didn't pay for the sharpening, is that considered theft to a certain degree? black296tuuk 3 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 JR,I have a few issues/ commentsAs they say in Mallrats “the customer is always an assholeâ€. And while this is untrue about most there will always be people that will get under your skin. Usually the amount of money they have corresponds with the size of the hole but the only thing you can do is shake your head and do your best to not let people’s ignorance effect your world. If you look back and can say that you honestly gave this guy no attitude then you have an honest gripe but like me you probably gave the guy a little shit/attitude (and I respect that) then you have to deal with the results of this ass. A manager should never ever fold and give the customer what they want in front of other employees. Personally I would rather lose the customer and keep the respect of my staff then fold and have the staff know that every time someone bitches they will get their way.I am a firm believer that the squeaky wheel should not get the greaseAs far as this situation goes, I would say explain your case to management and if they don’t believe you then that is fine. Personally I would never quit, I would make them fire me if I thought I was in the right. If for some reason they do fire you make sure that you get copies of any and all documents in your employee file at that time. But don’t be the bitter employee that tries to get revenge. They will lose enough business with you gone and that is reward enough. Remember you can always come to the WEST SIDE!!
Accord 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Wow that guys sounds like a total asshole. JR, you should start your own online hockey store :D.What does crossgrinding mean?
ambro 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I think its when you grind the hollow of the blade completely off so it is flat on the bottom. Something like that I think.
