Glue Stick

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what the best way to heat a glue stick is. They seem pretty solid. Tried a blowdryer but it seemed to take forever, although my blowdryer is what I usually use for changing blades. Anyone with experience please reply.

I do it over the element of the stove. Be careful though, I doubt dripping on the red hot element would be good.

Watch your fingers too....

What kind do you have? The long, thin kind heat up much better than the short, fat ones.

/insert vaguely sexual joke here.

actually, I didn't realise you could get a heat gun that accepts them. I think I'll try that as I'm tired of burning my little digits. :o

I usually buy the thin glue sticks at the craft store, they're much easier to work with.

The shorter ones tend to put your fingers closer to the heat and my heat gun gets damn hot, it's a heavy duty industrial model.

I'm getting screwed, I pay about a quarter each. They're 1/4 across and about a foot long. Is that the same as the ones you use?

I've tried the gluegun method...it did'nt work too well. The glue cools too quickly. Also, around here at the Home Depot, you can get a heat gun for about 15 USD.

I use the best of both worlds, heat gun to heat the shaft and melt any glue on the tenon then use the glue gun to put more melted glue on the tenon. Works like a charm.

Don't put the glue on the tenon until you are ready to put the blade into the shaft. Then it will work like a charm.

Yea. What I do is I get the shaft nice and warm to expand it a little, then i put a thin strip of glue on all four sides of the tenon, and slap it in. I let the glue cool before I pry the excess off, it's easier that way.
