tapered or standard? which do you use, not which you like better, but which ones you do actually pay $ for?

e.g. you might like tapered, but you buy standard because its cheaper or more widely available

I would love to use a tapered shaft, to see for myself if there is a real difference in the kick. but im stuck using standard shafts for the moment, because i dont like dropping $80+ (cdn) for a composite tapered blade, when i can get a standard for $40.

im getting rid of all but one of my old normal shafts and going with tapered. i really like the kick on ice - and though i dont notice it as much on roller its at least as good as normal. id like to have 2 tapered shafts, one for each and maybe keep my old inno novious around for a normal backup. i find that i can get all the tapered blades i want personally. ccm is the only company not making tapered blades that i might actually buy. i may try the bauer tapered blades this year.

I use tapered shafts primarily. I thought about going back to standard to save a few bucks, but I haven't found any standard Drury-esque blades that are cheaper or better balanced than the Synth. ones.

I own only tapered shafts now. I feel that it does give me a quicker release even though it hasn't actually been proven yet. Whether it works or is just psychological, a high end tapered shaft isn't that much more expensive than a high end standard shaft so the mental edge is worth the extra bit of money. Every major hockey company has a tapered blade so I don't know what you guys are talking about in terms of blade unavailability.

There are still more selection of blade patterns for standard shafts over tapered, aren't there? That would be my guess.

I prefer standard because of the availability and cheaper cost of a high quality blade. My main shaft right now is an Ultra Lite.

Right now I'm using standard shafts. I don't prefer one over the other, I just like the blade selection with standards better. I like pro stock blades over retail because of patterns, and you can find more pro stock standard blades than tapered.

I own three tapered novius shafts. I had used tapered inno blades and R2 blades in the past, both are available locally to me, but now that I have the custom tapered christian blades from chad, they are all I use. I'll be ordering a bunch more soon, so availability won't be an issue.
