Teammate took some pics of me today, at least until teammate 2 whined that his picture-taking was preventing him from scoring. Unfortunately most of them came out blurry, but there's one. (actually, the play is at the other end of the rink, and I'm just getting up after being pelted.)

Teammate took a few pictures of me at the skate this morning, until Teammate 2 complained that the camera work was interfering with his scoring. (not true: that was me interfering.) Unfortunately I am faster than I thought, because all but one is blurry and/or I am hidden behind someone else. (unfortunately? fortunately?) I had a fantastic glove save on Teammate 2 that produced a fine string of expletives. Teammate said he'll take some more tomorrow. I have to readjust the camera to "simplified for physics professor" mode. The action has moved to the other end of the rink - I am in the process of standing.

A little more than 1.5 years ago I had a herniated disc block a nerve going down my leg causing drop foot among a few other things. Today was the first time i've been able to skate in a game since then. Some nerve damage is still present and will probably always be there but got through the skate and felt pretty good albeit slow.

As one lucky enough to come out on the other side alive, all I can say is pay attention to your bodies, fellas. Don't minimize potential symptoms of real trouble.

A guy I started playing hockey with about 15 years ago passed away last night - heart attack. He had two daughters in college. While I haven't played with him in many, many years and really wasn't particularly close I can't help but be shaken. Not only is it a tragedy on its own, I can't help but be reminded of my own mortality. RIP Alex Milman. You had a great passion for the game, you were a good guy and you will be missed.
