One could argue that the worst holder is one you can't get steel for. But that's none of my business. Give the holders a shot guys... The steel upgrade alone is worth it. Gilles and his team over at Step are a great bunch of guys who are extremley passionate about steel. I know many that are pretty excited that Step will come standard on the TRUE jets.

In all honesty I have been watching much of this unfold as you guys have. Scott and his team are doing a great job up there in Winnipeg and now it's essentially just branded TRUE as they did acquire VH Footwear. The key here and the main difference in what we have seen in other acquisitions by other companies in this industry over the last 10 years- Is that TRUE understands that the people behind the brand make a difference. Not the other way around. I signed on to work for these people because, of the leadership and the value they placed on the people they entrust their brand to. I understand that I just took a whole big detour and for that I apologize, but I wanted to make sure that was clear as some of the early comments I read about the acquisition were without merit. I can't speak a whole lot about the holder yet as us retail reps are just now being integrated into the process. I do recall riding with Gilles about a year and half ago and he said he had been working on a holder due to the pull for his product and a shrinking ecosystem in which Step could thrive. It would appear that the holder is a product of VH and Steps' collaboration as it was cobranded at one point, but I can't say for sure as I don't have the whole backstory. As I sit here I am waiting for a shipment of iPads for my dealers Fit Centers and am very anxious to get going. Once I have an opportunity to visit the new facility that the team is in I can perhaps speak to the holder and the boot more in depth. I will be more than happy to share as I know more, but for now- What an exciting time to be in this industry.

Zac911, can you fill us in the reason for the plastic heel cup? I too am not a fan of it but can only assume the reason for it. Thanks

I don't know if the holes lineup and haven't been able to find the answer, but reread the thread here on the holders and they allow for a quick change of steel without the steel becoming loose in the channel (this can happen with the Edge holders over time): So while I don't like the front and back dimples they seem to be well designed holders with excellent steel. You may just want to stick with them, ignore the aesthetics (how many people are really staring at your holders during play?) and save the cost of having new holders put on.

I agree with about the holder, as that is the only thing I dislike about the whole skate. I would be swapping them out with Edge holders as soon as possible.

Overall, I like the look of the boot, footbed and liner, however; I'm still not a fan of the plastic heel cup (although maybe a good explanation of the functional reasons for that change would sway me) or the aesthetics of the holder (too many partial cut outs).

I'm actually liking the subtle design changes from VH to True. Not a big fan of the VH holder but that's easily resolved with a Tuuk holder instead.

I've been watching their stock and they were almost out of the Shifts but recently got a bunch more in. It could be a last push of some stock that was sitting somewhere? I love a lot of the concepts in this boot, though the RPE's have them as well: aggressive forward angle, flexy but reinforced tendon guard, good wrap on the forefoot and extended toecap under the first laces. I'm not sure what size I would need though, and don't really need a new pair of skates yet. It's such a shame Alkali wasn't sold to Warrior instead. They could have been a great addition to the company and a rival on the ice skate market. It was nice having Justin Hoffman's design evolve and such a shame it got abruptly cut off just as it got to the RPD/RPE iteration :/

I wonder how it would do in the VT testing? It's funny. I played some junior hockey over in Sweden in the late 70's. Everyone wore these helmets. Never any head injuries. Maybe today we should respect each others heads more, and not just try to build bigger helmets.
