In addition to removing the red insoles, I suggest tightening your laces looser than you think you need. Just remove the slack in the laces and pull them barely snug. That's all these skates need.

I upgraded from sb black to as blacksteel. Night and day difference. The SB black was probably worse than steps stainless. I don't like the orthomoves at all and I have used superfeet yellow and carbons without complaints. Orthomoves imp feel a lot diff. Only up side is the adjustable arch support but the overall feel of the orthomoves I couldn't get used to esp compared to speed plates which I love.

As others already mentioned. No red insole and tighten to only slack is gone. I'd even consider rebake with no red insole and tighten them at only 70% or so, especially the problem areas for you in terms of volume. You also have the option of getting the low profile tongues (unless you have those already) Do you fail the pencil test considerably or are they just tight width wise? The facings on the Trues have a lot of flexibility when heated up both in terms of accommodating wider feet and narrow. Can post pictures or where the problem areas are while on your feet? For me I have very skinny calves and ankles so I need as much wrap as possible or the shrink wrap method was mandatory. For u, you may be the group that don't even need to lace the top two eyelets while heat moulding the traditional way. I have a feeling your issue can be easily resolved with a proper rebake.

+1 on both. With TRUE skates you barely need to take the slack out of the skates. Also, do NOT use waxed laces.

He’s skipping the second eyelet in all of those. If you catch him with his leg flexed you risk missing the top eyelet because his shin slides down and conceals it. This happens quite a bit because he’s quite a deep skater. If you look at the right time you can see both: skipped eyelet with top laced eyelet concealed and top eyelet visible on the other skate. Just some examples from the ‘10-‘11 Winter Classic since it’s a precisely identifiable event in your example set:

Well after my 10th game and 2nd since moving the tongue more in the boot and adding a second red insert, I think I've finally perfected my fit. I use the metatarsal tongue and when I first got them I thought the overall fit in the forefoot was a tad sloppy. Moving it down I'm locked into place perfectly. I do skip the eyelet second from the top and that has make a world of difference. The thing I've noticed the most with the switch to True, my legs aren't sore the next day. I really like these skates.

Sock thickness can have a very noticeable factor in fitment. I can't use thinnies or my feet slide around in my skates like crazy. Could also be attributed to how slick the thinnies are as well. They feel almost too smooth.

I was going to mention the socks as well but couldn't really see how thick they are. If he is using typical athletic socks those can be pretty thick . I'd get a pair of socks meant specifically for hockey

Thank you guys, I just got confirmation here, so my intend was right - SS black + Superfeet = way to go )

I've had steel done by hand vs the same ROH from my Sparx and never noticed a difference.

That Canucks jersey is one of the nicest in the league.

I have Speedblade 4.0 in the high-polished version. I'm not going to switch. I happy with the weight of the skate and the amount of angle I can go without needing taller blades. I had step steel with my previous Bauer Supremes on a lightspeed 2 holder. The plus with Step Steel blades is the steel is nicer. They kept their edge longer between sharpenings compared to stock Tuuk blades. They are taller so you can go deeper into a turn. Minuses, they do weigh a bit more.

Wow, tongue adjustment helped a *lot*. I didn't know that was an option. Pulling the tongue way up so it's out of the toe box entirely, I'd say we're 85% of the way there in terms of fit. A rebake and some breaking in might get us the rest of the way. I might even want the red inserts back in. Edit: Put the red inserts back in, 95% of the way there. I think if I fiddle with the lacing a little more and rebake them, I might be very happy

Did you adjust the tongue so it's not so low? Personally if it causes pain not even skating I would just rebake them first. Pain when just lacing them up isn't a good sign. If you even noticed that they were laces too tight during the bake then that's a sign. I know you're probably hesitant but if just rebake them at home in ur oven.

It doesn't look horrible. With a rebake and less tightening of the laces the facing will likely flare out more and give u a bit more depth. Pencil test is really just a guideline anyways but if it's painful even after rebaking and no red insole, then obviously you should get a remake. My buddy has club feet and always have lace bite from volume issues. His trues were way off in terms of depth but also length on one skate. His remake worked out fine. The one thing I don't understand about true is that I think they rely too much on the thermoformability of their skate where they won't really adjust the facing height where it will always provide the same wrap no matter what your foot shape and depth is. Imo if it were 100% custom everyone should get a calculated facing height in relation to their foot depth but it seems like for the most part the facings are a standard size and they just work for the majority of ppl who fall within a certain range. I've seen many ppl fail the pencil test but they can get away with it because it doesn't cause pain.

Yep, way way looser than you're used to. Barely snug for most of the boot.

Have you tried 31 Thoughts with Elliotte Friedman? He's been putting out episodes already has some great interviews. I do HCN during the season along with 31 Thoughts and, of course, Spittin Chiclets... I'm an hour and 15+ away from work so I get some good windshield time to catch up on podcasts.

Life is too short to spend your free time and discretionary income on something that you aren't enjoying. Take time away and if you get the itch then find somewhere else to play other than where it wasn't fun anymore. Remember, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
