Starting in Goal as an Adult
BenderHockey replied to IPv6Freely's topic in General Goalie Discussion
I have the Ritual Pro C/A. Expensive, but the mobility is insane, and super comfortable. After using first their player sticks and now their goal equipment, I will say that I am a BIG fan of Warrior and what they have been doing lately. -
The guy that rear-ended him was Mexican. It's not like he called him a "filthy Mexican" or any other type of racial slur. It was a statement of fact.

Right, I meant first time on Virgin. I only fly like once a year, only on Virgin. Any tips on upgrading?
-
How did you get upgraded your first time flying?

First game of the season, and my first game in like 9 months due to refereeing all winter. The vent? We have 15 people showing up. This is the team that had been begging me to play because they "never have anyone show up".

He means that you won the game, genius. Good to see what's important to you.

What model fishbowl is that?

Honestly, being in the same situation, it's actually better for you to get lit up by superior players than to do well versus weaker players. Sure, it may shake your confidence, but keep playing against better players, and your skills will improve far more. -
Yes, as a recent player to goalie convert as well, I can confirm that the lower skill games are the hardest. The shots are much slower than one would expect, and the decision making is MUCH different. Can't anticipate those guys too much.

Had to put my Shepherd down this morning. Smartest, most lovable thing on this earth, but she was in too much pain. Hurt way more than I ever could have prepared myself for.
-
Not a lot of puck marks yet! ;)

I didn't like the forced stuff, like shoehorning the "buh-bye" skit into the Californians and such. Seemed stiff overall.

"Could of", "would of", "should of", and the general deterioration of the Gen Pop's English Language skills.

Don't focus on the number of goals, focus on the number of stops. Use the goals allowed to learn what you could have done better, and focus on growth. Trust me, there's at least one ice time a month where I start to contemplate how much I could get for selling my equipment.

EBay disputes. Sold a bunch of signed pucks, shipped them all out via Priority Mail. One guy says he never got it, despite tracking info stating otherwise. Claims they must have " delivered it to the wrong address".

It gets better. Not quickly though. Stick it out. -
Got some beauty P91a/clone sticks in Gear thread. B)

Before it was NY/CT refs. Maybe there is a common denominator here.

If it's a blowout, and less than a minute left, that clock isn't stopping.

Don't convert player skates, use the goal skates. Get them baked, stretched, punched, whatever. Player skates won't allow the movement you may not currently have, but will need in the future. Take as many breaks as you need, both to rehydrate and to stretch. Stretch when play is at the other end, and every chance you get. Also use the time when play is at the other end to work on movement. Look up how to push off, and get from post to post. I know you may feel like most of this is above your skill level, but if you don't start doing it now, you'll get used to NOT doing it, and you'll have to re-train yourself later. I made this mistake. -

Have them just shoot. No dekes, just long/mid range shots. Have them start with easy wristers, just so you can learn to pick the puck up off of the blade and track it in. Track every shot all the way into your glove, your pads, or the net. -

You are probably going to be terrible. You need to be ok with that. Don't worry about the last shot that went in, worry about stopping the next one.
