  1. Though some of the higher end Nespresso machines are pretty decent! :) Certainly not $10,000 machine levels of quality, but good enough for the convenience of it. There's also something to be said for convenience in sharpening, too. For me, if this thing works "pretty well" its likely still better than the pro shop at the rink (they're terrible). That means I'll actually have regular sharpenings because I won't have to go out of my way to go to another city to have them sharpened, and that means I won't have the whole "I haven't sharpened my skates in two months and now that I just did, I'm falling all over the place because I'm not used to it" thing going on. So, in my case, it's not worth it to take it to the professionals if I can get a decent sharpening in my own home with a decent level of consistency. Also worth mentioning that there's no FBV in my area, so I'd been doing mail-order sharpening for my player skates. The sharpening plus round trip shipping was about $15 total every time. $500/15 = 33 sharpenings before the machine pays for itself, even before the first ring is even used up. Then from there the savings become massive. $50 for a new ring is a $550 savings compared to mail-order for 40 sharpenings.. Of course, my time is worth something too (in the case of my goalie skates that I don't send away). Everyone's situation is different of course :) Like I said, I'm not sure I could justify $800 for this thing, but $500 is a whole other story. For $800 I'd probably just buy an X01 and learn to use it.
  2. You know you're in Canada when the reporter can actually skate.
  3. Let's play a game. See if you can determine the exact moment where I gave up.
  4. Really? Ouch. That's pretty hard to justify.
  5. Just really really suck at this. 15 goals in two games followed by a 1.5 hour pickup where I made maybe 5 saves.
  6. Fantastic looking skates.
  7. Fantastic looking skates.
  8. Great to hear, and welcome to the board!
  9. I paid $499 plus shipping. I think retail is $599. First sharpenings seem good, will find out how they are tonight. The nice thing is that JR was the one who did my goalie skates for me a few weeks ago and they haven't been sharpened since, so I have a good baseline to compare to after 10 or so sharpenings (will check edge evenness, etc). SUPER easy to use though. Could not be happier with that aspect. Had two pairs done in the first 30 minutes after I opened the box.
  10. I'd wait too, if nothing else because of the constant innovation and design tweaking these things get. When I got mine, they looked nothing like a model only 6-8 months older!
  11. Is the TC4 a replacement to the TC3, or in addition to? Just so I know for the future.
  12. Another stinker. Lost 7-2. Other goalie had a 7-0 shutout going until the last 5 mins or so. I just don't know what to do at this point. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different, they just all seem to go in. I've had 5-6 goals in the last two games that went between the torso and the arm. I'm starting to wonder if my confidence has gone so far into the crapper that instead of squeezing like I should be, I'm leaving my hands out trying to be as wide as I can to try to stop a deflection that never ends up happening. I don't know. It used to be that shots from the point made me happy because they meant easy saves. Now, I have no idea anymore. The first goal... well... that sucked. Shouldn't have turned my head. I was fine, I just needed a minute to let the ringing go down a bit.
  13. No there's not much they can do about weight.
  14. You can't really make skates lighter. I agree my VH are pretty heavy compared to my old Bauer Reactors as well. I don't notice it at all on the ice though and wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair. In fact, it's about time to replace my original Makos. Hopefully they can do Ladd's color scheme for me :)
  15. Yea it really all depends on the skater. For me, the 3rd from the top is where I start going tighter, so the 4th from the top is where I'll want the locks. I'm also putting mine on goal skates where it's obviously a very different stride.
  16. Thanks guys, will order some now.
  17. What length are the screws? The screws that came with the lace locks aren't long enough, neither are the short helmet screws that came in the CCM screw/post kits.
  18. It's been a month and a half since I played pickup. What a workout. My legs and feet were killing me by the end. It's so much more intense than games because there's no whistles or intermissions. I didn't play as well as I'd have liked (especially during the last 30 minutes, which I didn't get because I didn't have my GoPro charged and the battery died) but I was working on a couple specific things. First, coming out much farther to challenge shooters and second, trying to be more patient, not biting on the first move and getting beaten. Regardless, it was nice to be back.
  19. Whoops, I thought I was looking at the Gear Sightings thread and once again playing the "guess what they're actually talking about" game. My mistake.
  20. Ah, that one. Yea I was actually expecting a penalty for that. Ref was looking at the flying elbow though, I guess.
