  1. So after 6 years of trading in guitars one after another trying to find my "soulmate" in a guitar and failing miserably, I thought it was time I just built my "main guitar". My new baby. I chose to paint it as a modified replica of Jimi Hendrix' Monterey Pop Strat as that was the first guitar I've ever wanted as a kid. Originally a John Mayer Stratocaster (I love his music, and the neck on the strat was bloody gorgeous) with a Maple Neck, Rosewood fingerboard, and Alder Body. Repainted with Nitrocellulose lacquer (the detailing is nail polish like Hendrix used on the original). The hardware is all brand new, Vintage-style. The tuners are vintage locking Gotoh tuners. The pickups are the kicker. I handwound them myself with the help of a luthier here in Vancouver, with the specs based off of the Klein Jazzy Cats. It's scatterwound with formvar wire. The electronics are vintage-style Caps and Pots, with cloth wire connecting everything. Took me about a month to put together. It's my new soulmate in a guitar. <3
  2. Exactly the same fit as the old Makos?
  3. I am now happy in my pants.
  4. June 20 is what I heard from a few posts back.
  5. I used to be on LS2.1. Was one of the first things I did after I really couldn't deal with the CXN. After getting a brand new pair for Christmas, I decided to keep the CXN/ES4 on these and try to get used to it. It really just takes some effort and patience to get used to the forward pitch and the holder - once I did, I prefer it over the Tuuk set-up. It just feels more "right" with the boot, though I suppose considering the CXN was made for the Mako, that could be why.
  6. My new babies. These were my old Makos (was given a new pair for Christmas). Won't be playing Roller Hockey with them, but they make for a good workout in between lectures. :D A bud of mine managed to yank the chassis off my X40Rs and crank 'em on the Makos for free. Considering putting a Powerslide Road Hog brake on it.
  7. God. Blackedge runners on the all-black Mako 2 boots would look sexy as hell.
  8. Changed my holders back to the CXN from the 2.1s. Finally got used to the forward pitch. If I remember correctly, both the LS2.1 and the ES4 runners have a 9ft Radius. Is there any reason why I feel like I've got less blade contact despite using the same size holder? Is there a remedy for this? Or should I just skate a few more times in the CXN/ES4 to get acclimated?
  9. Those are the Mako 2s. I think Hockey World Blog released the catalog somewhere.
  10. Has anyone had any cosmetic cracking occur on the texalium? Just slight fractures?
  11. Just got back from the LHS with a rebake with Superfeet in. Negligible volume difference, felt almost the same, except with better arch support for my pronating/supinating legs. Apparently the alignment is perfect so that wasn't the issue. Will hit the ice in a few days so I'll post any updates regarding superfeet in the Makos.
  12. Anyone use Superfeet in these skates? Or some sort of non-stock footbed? I've been noticing my right skate has had some major issues of late. The foot seems to shift left (towards the inside edge) in the skate despite the fact that it shouldn't, causing me to pronate and thus pushing pressure on my arch and causing pain to radiate throughout my calves. They get better temporarily when I loosen and re-tie the skates, but the discomfort returns briefly. Calling it a "foot shift" isn't accurate as the Easton locks my feet in quite tight, so I have a feeling it's a misalignment issue. I had gotten the holders swapped to LS2s when I got the skates. They were perfect expect that my right skate wobbled due to an apparently misaligned holder and runner. When the guy at my usual LHS fixed it for me, the wobbling stopped, but this "foot shift" issue began and is usually more evident when I wear shin guards over the skates compared to when I wear them under jeans at a public skate. Is it worth getting the skates re-aligned, and possibly re-baked?
  13. I am using stock footbeds. They actually work fine just until my foot shifts forward. This doesn't happen in my left foot and I feel no pain at all in that foot. My right foot's arch only starts feeling pain on the back portion of the arch (lets say right under the shin in terms of its location on my sole) when my foot slips forward.
  14. I've noticed I've found my foot slipping forward ever so slightly in my skates causing a misalignment in the arch support (thus hurting me a tad in my skates). Am I not tying them tight enough? I snug-tie them for the first set of laces and crank the last three. Also, as with all my other skates I've worn, they feel like they got bigger. I usually wear a size 4.5 skate, went to a 4.0 in my Makos. What I've noticed with the Makos as well as the One.9s I wore before is that for the first few times I wore the skates, my toes brushed the cap and were perfect. Now, they barely even graze it at all. Is this normal?
  15. Anyone else noticing slight cracks or just fractures running through the silver texalium? They're extremely thin and just look like cosmetic cracks, but they've been seen on the three pairs (including mine) seen around the league I play.
  16. Pretty sure Kesler (Bauer guy) was seen wearing them at the Canucks camps and Pre-Season games. Bieksa too.
  17. The thing about the Makos are that they've got some serious built in arch support in them. I've tried on both the 4.5D (my NXG skate size) and 4.0D (My current Mako Skate Size). The Arch support on the 4.5D was too far forward for me and actually caused pain as the arch wasn't lined up correctly. This sort of harkens back to how your Superfeet size is not necessarily your skate size. I would say, get used to new skate socks, and buy the Mako that fits like a glove, because that's what they were designed for. Creating a gap in between the skate and your foot just seems counterproductive to what these skates were designed for in the first place.

  19. Bought myself a Vintage 57' Spec Gibson Les Paul Historic Reissue Goldtop. My first Les Paul of my life. Geek out.
  20. Wish I could try these out nice and proper in Vancouver. The best place is two towns away in Surrey and the closest place is Sportchek which I would never give my skates to. Wish Cyclone Taylor's would carry 'em.
  21. Fair advice. Considering the swap wouldn't cost me anything, I'll keep on these holders for at least two weeks (about 10 hours of ice time) and report back.
  22. This isn't my first skate in Makos. I've been in a friend's pair.
  23. Finally got back to Vancouver and held my new babies fresh from the box. God they're light. Didn't fit me at all at first, but after the bake I slotted right in. Will be changing them out to the Tuuk Lightspeed holders though - I can get them free and I really can't stand the CXN, as much as they are a part of the boot.
  24. In regards to pricing, it really is just a means to cover all their bases, isn't it? I mean, a Size 11 SR skate will cost as much as the Size 6. It's just that the Size 11 will cost less than its "worth" (materials, mostly) and the size 6 more. That's why that 300 dollar jump for half a size sort of makes sense, and doesn't really denote a "lowering" of the materials (though yes, Junior skates are known to be softer).
