  1. The laugh is helping me deal with this!!!! Thanks!
  2. I am calling the on-call nurse to see if she can help. She has been an angel. She is doing what she can, despite the direction of my hole from my ostomy as it is down and almost aiming straight back at me! She has been out yesterday and today. I don’t get to see the visiting ostomy/wound nurse until Tuesday as it is a specialty; I just get the on-call visiting nurse who has some experience with these things. All I can do is hope my bag stays attached until Tuesday when the wound/ostomy nurse comes by. I realise there are people going through MUCH worse, which this realisation is what helps me hang on. To say I am going through hell right now is an understatement!
  3. How are you doing underneath that? Hope you’re okay.
  4. One week and three days post-op from step two in my three operation method to poo from my bum again and I can’t get my pouching system to last long or not have leaks. My stoma and surrounding skin has dramatically changed shape. Tuesday is when I see the ostomy nurse and this is driving me up a wall!
  5. As I say- if I were Jeremiah Sparkington or Josediah True, I’d throw them a bone IF the brands grew directly from this website; but this is merely what I would do (and do regularly to thank people for referrals or free advertising).
  6. I can understand where you’re coming from, Mr. Oldtrainerguy. The difference is that it is the rank and file of this site discussing the sharpener with little participation of the owner and/or employees. He’s present, but there is not any active “stealth” advertising or promotions from the company owner. Now if I were “Jerimiah Sparkington” (I know- not the real owner’s name), I would throw a bone at this site owner if this thread was making business hop (and no- he doesn’t have to in my opinion). This is simply a discussion on the sharpener- good, bad and otherwise.
  7. I get where your feelings come from. When we get to the rainbow bridge, we are reunited with our loved ones. So sorry about the loss of your furry family member.
  8. It is also my wife’s and I anniversary of both our first date AND our wedding!!!!
  9. Anyone try the Channel Z on goal skates? I am thinking of supplementing my offerings.
  10. Garbage in from the sharpener, garbage out to the customer. That sucks, and I am sorry to hear that! So- my question is how do they treat skates in regular machines? I do know of a place where they have both machines and the experienced hand sharpeners have so much disdain for the Sparx machines that they would do the same sort of deal. I will be investing in an edge checker just for the fact that it could be greatly useful for when I do skates I have not touched previously. The one time I did not do the marker test on skates that were horrendously rounded over (and the user used some self-sharpening devise) that I did not get a wonderful edge on there. Never again- I will always do marker on the blade and run ten passes MINIMUM on skates like that.
  11. It’s bad when you are actually looking forward to major abdominal surgery just to get away from a psychotic boss...
  12. Your buddy is trying to brave it, as well. Go with it. I know it sucks that the inevitable will happen, but just enjoy your buddy; that’s what he’s trying to do is enjoy his time left with you. It’s hard, I know.
  13. Just treasure your buddy at this point. My little buddy, Trix got sick before I had my feet operated on; she hung on until I went back to work AFTER my recovery. It killed me that she was dead when I got back from my first day back to work. I am so sorry for you, mate.
  14. Standard. I wish I would have waited a few months and bought the commercial version 😟
  15. A local rink has a Sparx in addition to a traditional Blademaster. One guy says that the vacuum does not work all that well. Of course he is biased because he is a Blademaster guy. My biggest trouble with mine is sharpening Step Extreme blades. I had quite the learning curve and nearly sent back the machine! I devised my own way to get the Step Extremes into the carrier and not stop in the middle of a pass. That being said- the only Step Extreme I will sharpen is my own. I now charge $10 if they go more than six weeks out because I find that the more rounded over a blade is (especially if they mess with their blades with some of the self sharpeners in between), it takes 10 passes to get a good edge. I am trying to incentivise customers to sharpen more often, as it is more cosistent and easier on my wheels.
  16. Didn’t Dyson make a vacuum sweeper in honour of the USPS because they pain SUCK?!??!?!? Nothing like the English Postal system...
  17. You mean neither are true?!?
  18. I am so sorry to read about this. Sending mojo to you and your family.
  19. Who knows? When it was just VH, it was most likely false as even the pros were buying their own boots; with True in the picture, could be true or false. You should compare his boot versus a stock one.
  20. Last Sunday was the first time I participated in goal since my UC problems and resultant Illeostomy. Whilst gassed after a couple of hours, I can’t wait to hit it again this Sunday. Don’t let something like wearing an ostomy bag stop you from living life.
  21. Did not know that was an option. Mine were made in the midst of the change over...
  22. The single holder for both skater and goalie is a big cost saver for inventory. I am betting it still benefits VH/True big time, especially going through one supplier. I would probably surmise less pressure from Step and more of a cost-saving incentive. I would bet the pro teams ordering the skates would still be able to go boot only. Think about this: you can now easily buy the replacement runners as a spare part, both a benefit to True AND Step. Again- I think it is less pressure and more incentive for True. Before True got involved, VH was a boot maker. Selling a complete skate makes customers more likely to keep the stock holders and buy replacement steel. Remember this: it is a decently easy remedy to repair too many holes in a composite outsole.
  23. Not a fan of the discontinuation of “boot only” option. Yes- mine shipped with the Step holder, then after catching a HARD shot to the ball of my foot, I immediately installed a Vaughn cowling when I got home. I was thinking that I may get my next pair in the next year or so. It could easily change by the time I re-order, or I may get an old favourite Graf boot, provided they are still around when I reorder skates. It all depends on how I feel about things. Still a fan of the VH/True boot, however.
