    Can it be that a Prosharp machine alters the profile of a runner due to repeated grinding? After about 7 sharpenings through my LHS with a Prosharp AS 2001 my runners with a Quad XS Profile began to have a tendency to catch an edge. I compared them with a second set of runners with a fresh profile on them. The fresh profile has less steel in the front and rear than the older one. The difference is not big but you can definitely feel it with your fingers. I made a direct comparison between the two sets of runners on the ice, the fresh ones are way more agile than the older ones and no more tendency to catch an edge. How can this happen even though the prosharp shouldn't change the profile?

    I didn't say that breaking them in was painful. But the padding and the tongues adapted to my feet and loosened up the fit. After the rebake the fit was perfect.

    I meant adjusting to a completely different skate. The skates need more than 20h to break in and a rebake with saran. You could try a different profile. And if you you aren't satisfied with your skates after this procedures it's time to think about an exchange of the holders.

    A tight fitting, stiff skate gives you more bite, I made the same experience with my trues. It will take you at least 10h on the ice to adjust to such a major change. Go to a shallower hollow(3/4") and have fun with your new skates. I didn't like the stock profile and made a very good experience with an unmodified Quad XS profile on my 254mm 6.5 TF7, excellent agility and good stability.

    My longer foot is 25,6cm long. When standing my big toe is touching the lip and barely feathering the toecap. In hockeystance the big toe is barely feathering the lip. Both after a half year of use. The True sizing chart shows 25,5 cm for a size 6.5 skate and 25,1cm for a size6.0 skate.

    I would give the 6.5R a chance. I initially thought that my 6.5R TF7 would be too small for me, and I changed the tongue for a pro one. After two additional saran-bakes and 20h on the ice they had been ok. After about 6 months with 3 hours of hockey a week they are perfect and I think that the felt tongues would have been ok for me.

    Give yourself some time to adjust to the 3/4" hollow. If you really can't manage it go down to 11/16". This was the right way for me. Now I'm on 7/8" and I love the glide, but the bite is still sufficient for me.

    I have two sets of runners with the same profile, but different heights due to profiling experiments. Huge difference towards stability.

    I guess it's the height difference. Prosharp recommends a 25mm(1") hollow for the Quad 1 profile (size 9-10). For my Quad XS profile (size 6.5) is a recommendation for a 19mm(3/4 ") hollow. I'm now on 22mm(7/8") because I'm a heavy guy.

    Thanks for your answers. Has anyone else tried the different inserts or made a direct comparison between the R1 and O1 chassis?

    Is there an insert or other adjustment on the R1s so that they have the handling characteristics of a standard chassis? I think about changing my standard chassis on my Tf7 against a R1 chassis. But I want to be able to cruise around the block with my Skates and have worrys if the stability is good enough for the streets and pavements around my flat. Can somebody explain the practical differences of the different inserts? And how is the pitch of the chassis or inserts?

    You should compare your skates in the same situation at the same time. If the holder/steel combination of the Ribcores gives you less height over the ice this can explain the difference in stability.

    How do you sharpen your skates? Freehand ore machine? If freehand it could be that they lost the profile and have a banana rocker right now.

    How do you mount the holder? Do you align it with the center, the heel or the toe? And how are you sure that you don't change the pitch, pivot point and blade alignment? Is the longer holder also taller? Do you have to drill all holes?

    Going the profiling way I found out that an ellipse zero with a 3/4" had way more glide with a sufficient bite than a stock 9/10' profile with a 92/75FBV. Both on my 254mm TF7 with a one to one comparison. One FBV freehand sharpening from a very experienced sharpener altered the profile noticeably(the heel was definitely shorter). Now I'm on Quad XS with a 3/4" prosharp sharpening(and I like the deeper Edge). It's a pity I can't combine a complex profile with FBV. But the flatter the hollow, the smaller is the advantage of FBV. Maybe I'll try 7/8" in the future.

    Do you really think that changing the length of the blade by 3,4% will have a noticeable effect? I think tat it's more about the profile and the mounting point of the holder. This would mean that you could get a similar effect by profiling and/or a realignment of the holder.

    How many hours have you been on the ice with them? Even minor changes with my blades take me up to ten hours to fully adapt. If the boot fits you better than your other skates, you could go the profiling or changing the holder way.

    And we still don't know about the detailed construction of the profile(angles, length of the radii, pivot point and so on).

    I didn't try it. I don't even know if there is a Omni profile developed for 254mm blades. You have to try and compare it to make a decision. I don't think that there is a "one fits all" profile.

    If you know what happened to the steel before, and the profiler knows his job, it should be the same.

    What is his ROH? Could it be that the steel has got too hot during sharpening? Is there fake Step steel on the market?

    If you want more performance, I would try the Quad 1, if you want it smoother I would try the Quad 0.5. But it's all try and error and personal preference. I love the performance of my Quad XS on 254mm.
