I would have specifically specified 280 holders. 272 is way too small. To be honest, if I was doing the order I would have request 288.
-
Yeah, it could be that screw but I think if that screw comes out the trigger would feel very loose.

Pic?

The new STX Surgeon RX3 gear is out.
VegasHockey replied to ParabolicActivity's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I think these are slimmer than most any other pant I have used. Definitely slimmer than the QRE and Vapor, and slightly slimmer than the CCM FT1 and Supreme. I wear a small in most brands as a medium is too big but int he STX I need to wear a medium. I am 5'11 and 180lbs. 32" waist and 31" inseam. -
They mostly line up.... But they are a nightmare to mount since they are carbon and have zero flex.
-
I would hand wash them in cold water with oxyclean in a bucket.. Make sure to rise them very well after. Then use some kind oil on the palms to keep the soft.
-
We started to get people bringing them into the shop for installation this week. These things are difficult to mount and the holder weighs a ton and has zero flex in it. I weighed a size 272 holder and it comes in at 394 grams. The factory VH holder with STEP steel is about 100-120 grams lighter. A TUUK LS Edges with Byonic steel is about 150 grams lighter. Based on how rigid the holder is I fear it will break eventually or yank the rivets out of the boot. I guess we will see in time. I mounted three pairs over this last week.

Yes, but this machine does not create a vacuum, removing the air from the bag. It inflates. Creating pressure on the skates to form to your foot.
-
Are they new or used?

Did you find the Warrior girdle shells to be more form-fitting or loose than the Bauers?

Hopefully you aren't washing your gear on hot and drying it. If so, you have damaged the entire anti-microbial properties of the game wear. -
Apparently there still is some store in Vancouver that does vacuum fitting for skates. Their process is more like a compression fitting though, after baking the skate you put then on your feet and put each skate in an individual chamber which inflates and compresses the skates to your foot.

These actually look like a mash up between a FT2, FT1 and first generation Jet Speed.
-
Interesting, I had the S190 pant and the MX3 and those shells had velcro, from what I can recall, so I assumed it was still the same.
-
My big thing is I want the velcro tabs that hook on to the girdle. I think Bauer has these but CCM does not. Can you confirm?

This exact area has been a problem for a few customers of ours and we have to send CCM the skates back to have larger toe caps attached. You cant punch that area of the boot properly.

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
VegasHockey replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Maybe TRUE was trying to make your specific steel/holder be like BladeTech.... https://www.bladetechhockey.ca/ More interesting is they offer steel for the TRUE/VH holder now too. -
I know vacuum fitting is popular in a lot of sports like skiing and it was at one point gaining popularity in hockey. Are there no companies that make vacuum systems anymore for hockey skates? Has anyone ever asked a ski shop if they would vacuum fit a pair of hockey skates, which I know sounds over the top, but I was just wondering.

Pro Stock FT1 w XS holder vs Retail FT1
VegasHockey replied to VegasHockey's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
The XS holder was 4 grams heavier than the SB 4.0 holder. The STEP was 12 grams heavier than the Hyper Glide steel. -
Perhaps, I think I will bring it to the local tailor and she what she might be able to do.
-
I'll do a full write up after I finish my testing.
-
The shell and girdle are the same size, Senior Medium. I tried to use a Senior Small and there was no way it would work at all.

If I wanted to make money I certainly wouldn't have opened a hockey store. I did it because I love the sport and the community. I am personally very picky about elbow pads and the STX RX series are very nice, especially for their price. If anything I always put the customer's needs before my own.

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
VegasHockey replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I could argue that I have seen issues with Bauer and CCM custom skates as well. Some of these issues are due to the shop or scanning process while others might be specific to the individual such as a sensitive area or personal preference. We recently had skates built for a player who HATES his toes being close to the toe cap and likes there to be enough wiggle room for him to move his toes. Obviously, this is uncommon so I had to make sure that even after the scan was submitted I followed up with TRUE multiple times to make sure they built the skates to his liking. We got them in and he loved them. So I guess experienced will vary, like anything in life. To put this in perspective, even cars, which are made in a very automated and controlled environment have a 1% "lemon" rate.
