  1. I ended up asking for a cortisone shot in the shoulder, as the pain pill wasn't doing anything more than over-the-counter ibuprofen. That helped stop pain across my back shoulder blade, top of deltoid, along the tricep, and the outside forearm. The loss of strength and pain in the hand and fingers went away. But now, there's a constant tingling in the pinky and ring finger. It doesn't go away. The orthopaedic surgeon didn't think it was worth removing the bone spur and has recommended to stop weight lifting and continue coming back for cortisone shots every 6+ months until I need shoulder replacement surgery. So, I'm going to see a neurologist about my neck. There's one who did my lumbar fusion over a year ago so I trust him. I'm going to look around for an orthopaedic surgeon who does 'ream and run" shoulder replacement. Anyone know of someone who has had that procedure done? I want to stay active, I'm not that old yet.
  2. Ice hockey has been evolving in little bits and pieces. Kind of like baseball, there's only so many different approaches you can take to alter the game with bigger players. Tall goalies seems to be the norm now, where as in the past, you could be under 5'10" and still be good. You can be under 5'10" but your ability to go pro is pretty small. Tall defensemen like Chara, they are desirable, but only so many guys are that tall, strong, fast and have hockey sense. You can have an offensive D-man, like he's always joining the rush, but you don't want all your defensemen to be the same way. Other team will find more breakaway chances that way. A defensive D-man is also desirable, and not as many measurable stats to show how they help the team out. They can block shots, but tactically, a defensive D-man who has good hockey sense and is disciplined to not be sloppy in his zone, well he can stop goals and passse, but there are things statistics aren't measured: number of times he pressures the puck handler to pass the puck away, clears the puck in a penalty kill, or pushes/blocks wingers out to prevent rebound attempts. These are things where he's not even touching the puck. His number of goals and assists might be low but he's very instrumental in preventing his goalie from geting eaten alive. Since zone coverage and 1-3-1 tactics have been popularized by some NHL teams, you can get some boring hockey where one team is stopping the other team from being able to set up plays beyond the neutral zone, but they aren't making headway in the offensive zone either.
  3. Sterling, VA is probably the closest. I'm in Richmond and there's no one who does custom skates. You can get fitted for non-custom skates though.
  4. Good if you like CCMs. ...Starting in 2020, all CCM pro and custom skates will include STEP blades and the expectations are to leverage the STEP product for retail models in the near future. ...
  5. do you wear the shin pads over the skate tongue or under?
  6. I've played in various places in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Maryland and the goalies played for free. In Virginia where I am, they pay. It's a joke as the rink management see goalies as "players".
  7. Yeah. I live in an area where goalies pay league fees and pay for pick-up hockey. It's an upside-down universe.
  8. I usually slash the lower portion of the shaft so the blade is safe if you are playing against me. 🏒
  9. I guess that's $700 CDN. Pro C/A are between $530 and $600 USD. Elbow pieces look more heavy duty than JDP elbow caps.
  10. Bunch of HPG 12A in XL on sidelineswap. Front hip padding design looks different though.
  11. It will be only a matter of time before we see some broken stick pictures. Really, I wonder if these will break at the shaft instead of the blade. That's my 51% guess.
  12. Wow. They are that big? I've seen some Kane Van Gate videos. He's an okay goalie. Somewhat entertaining videos if you don't take him totally seriously. He knows he's not NHL level stuff, wishes he were, and pokes fun at himself while at it.
  13. My ortho (who specializes in shoulder and knee) suspected pain going below the elbow is from pinched nerve at C5. The pain that I get is usually along the outside of the forearm and along the triceps, and along the shoulder blade in the back. That pain level is like a 5 to 8. The hand tingling pain level is usually 1 to 2, but can go up to 4 or 5, and sometimes I get the effect of losing hand strength, like pressing on top of a soap dispenser or reaching into my right side jeans pocket, but I can still open up and close my fingers.
  14. Well, they had to dial back the blade stiffness without changing the materials used is my guess.
  15. I have pretty good insurance. I've already had a variety of surgeries in the last couple years. Last one was a spinal fusion, L4 and L5. A couple months before that was a hip arthoscopy. A couple years before that was shoulder labrum repair. The cortisone shot helped the shoulder pain a bit. It's been two days since I got that shot. The numbness/tingling is still happening in my pinky and ring finger. Pain in fingers, hand and arm are sporadic. MRIs are pretty expensive, especially if you need the dye. Does neck MRI require a dye? I know for my lumbar, it didn't. Surprised you can play after three cervical vertibrae are fused.
  16. Well, some people don't know how loose or tight to lace up skates. I tighten mine as tight as possible with my hands. I want my ankle locked back in the boot.
  17. Or maybe what I meant to say was, that they aren't tightened up loosely like a pair of hiking boots worn for fashion purposes, and not for hiking.
  18. That should be fun to see it break on a slap shot. $400 down the drain.
  19. As for the tingling, it's in the last 3. Now, it's always tingling, instead of on and off. Pain still comes and goes along the shoulder blade and tricep area in a sporadic manner.
  20. Well, my right shoulder started bother me, pain-wise, but I started getting pain and numbness radiating down the arm, hand and fingers. Thumb is good to go. I went to the doctor, he worked on my shoulder previously for a torn labrum repair. I have a huge bone spur growing at the the humerus at the top near the ball of the bone. It showed up in the x-ray. It could be nerve pinched at the neck. Could be nerve pinched at the shoulder. Anyway, the tingling isn't bad, and doesn't happen while playing, but the numbness is affecting my grip strength. I can see my slapshots aren't as strong. I need to be more deliberate with passes so I'm not dishing out weak passes. Anyone else had/have a similar issue? I'm planning on getting a cortisone shot this week.
  21. Depends. Are your skates loose fitting even when tightened? Doesn't sound like you have issues in the fore-foot or heel areas of the skate. It would probably be good to have someone who is a skater/hockey player see if the skates fit you properly or not.
  22. When you tie up the skates, you start at the bottom and tighten them at each pair of eyelets until you get to the top. Don't tie them loosely like street shoes. It will almost be like a cast or ski boot. If these are new skates, you could opt to not tie it at the very last top two eyelets until the skates are broken in.
