Hockey program team sales? Is this normal?
caveman27 replied to VegasHockey's topic in General Hockey Discussions
Those folks are nuts if they expect you to pre-buy a ton of custom-colored gloves with logos. Good luck with your counter-proposal. -
Why is Warrior's customizer so mean to me?
caveman27 replied to marka's topic in General Hockey Discussions
If I click on "CUSTOMIZE IT" under one of the gloves, I get directed to another page, where I can select colors option to see what the glove will look like with the customization. -

Hockey program team sales? Is this normal?
caveman27 replied to VegasHockey's topic in General Hockey Discussions
When you said gloves in your original post, are you talking about hockey gloves or winter gloves? How many things do they want available for purchase: hockey socks, hockey jerseys, hockey helmets, hockey pants or shells? I can understand that some AA, A or B teams would have more of a need/want to look better than a house or C league, and so they would want custom-colors and all that jazz that go with looking uniform with a color scheme that isn't just some color that is easily purchased any any hockey store, like purple, white and silver. Here, the local team has red, white, and blue, which is easy to buy socks, helmet and gloves for, but the travel team has NY Rangers-pattern pant shells and a hockey bag with them team logo on it. -

Oh so the big elephant in the room is, if a player backs out of the league and orders a jersey, you eat the loss on the custom-ordered item because no one is going to buy a jersey with someone else's name and number in a specific jersey size. Most of the time, most players who register will play the season. But, there will always be some players who become ill or get injured, some players move out of town, or some just quit for whatever reason. The association is probably big with multiple teams at each level, but if just five children quit: one in Mites, one in Squirt, one in Pee Wee, one in Bantam, one in Midget, that adds up. You need to take a down-payment so if it falls through, you will at least break-even. There is no reason you can't request a down-payment for custom items. -

So, non-essential business were going to be able to open on Friday, April 24, 2020 (executive order 53) in Virginia. And the governor just pushed it back two more weeks to May 8, 2020. -
This chart is pretty close. Kind of strange how 48 and 58 are missing, but it is.

Jerseys to wear on the ice with shoulder pads, or jerseys to wear off-ice, no equipment?

I started off goaltending in the 80s. I had a Cooper SK 600, which was comfortable. The Cooper SK 2000 was more popular so I later on bought that helmet and used the HM-50 mask. It was actually a heavy-duty helmet, but it pressed behind one of my ear lobes. It "looked" good, but it wasn't totally comfortable. If you were super cool enough for your parents to buy two helmets of different colors, you would have the front piece in the team's primary color and the back piece in the team's secondary color.

Interesting. I didn't know they were doing that. Just a side note, figure skating boots have stiffness ratings where the boot is stiffer for higher level skaters, as skaters need more support for more difficult jumps. I notice a huge difference between beginner skates and intermediate skates. There's more noticeable flex as the boots are still made of leather. Newer ones have a non-leather sole for improved stiffness and decreased weight.

For guys in a beer league, was your team going up before things got shut down? Were they getting worse? Were they staying the same? Was your team on top, middle or bottom? The team I am on got off to a rough start. We were losing games by 4 to 6 goals regularly. We made it to the bottom of our division around Christmas time. But, we started building up wins afterwards. We had some loses against better ranked teams, but they were close and lost by a point in OT. We had three regular season games to go and the league was put on hold. We were in the middle ranked fourth out of eight. I don't know how we are going to do once we get back into it, which who knows when that is going to happen. Any momentum/team mojo we had is gone for the most part. Every team makes it into the playoff so it's not like we weren't going to clinch a playoff spot. -
In these strange times we are in, I found two items are sold out everywhere. 1. web cams. 2. bidet attachments (bidet that you attach to your toilet under the toilet seat screws. Also, some office chairs are sold out, a lot more people have switched to working from home full time, like me. I ended up ordering a gaming chair.

Single Favorite Piece of Equipment Ever
caveman27 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Micron Mega Air-90. Fit my feet perfectly, perfect boot angle, no lace bite, no problems. Of course, they weighed a ton compared to current carbon fiber boot skates, and they had this white plastic clip attached to the inside area of the boot which I didn't know if it was a gimmick or actually helped to transfer power. Maybe real leather on the inside of skate boots are the solution for good fitting hockey skates. Circle back to the things that worked in the past. For goaltending equipment, the best thing was my CCM Pro-pac goalie girdle. They were very flexible and fit great. The girdle fit tightly with the belt and laces tied up. You didn't need suspenders, but they were optional if you attached them to the shell buttons. This was back in the day before anyone tucked their chest into their pants. -

While thinking about it all, I figure if something like this comes around again, instead of shutting everything down, people can wear masks and go about their business. It would be inconvenient to wear a respirator mask while playing hockey but doable at the same time. -

That's what folks here are saying. There's a semi-bad area where the rink doors close behind the nets. The boards aren't quite even and the ice is not level. The rink folks do level the ice maybe twice a year, once in the fall before hockey and figure skating start up and once before a big figure skating competition in the spring when they need level ice. -

they should bring back football-style shoulder pads
caveman27 replied to cause4alarm's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
What I meant was a different player. I saw a photo of Oshie sitting in his spot in a locker room where there was a similar pair of Bauer shoulder pads behind him, but I think that was for a player who sat next to him in the locker room. -

Interesting. These are the kinds of shoulder pads T.J. Oshie wears (photo shows another player) It's pro-stock model. Almost like Nexus. There's a lot of articulation and mobility allowed in the shoulder area. That or he wears Eastons. -

Aside from the weight and bulkiness, I kind of wonder if that type of shoulder pad design would prevent collarbone injuries. Not a T.J. Oshie superfan, but I just wanted to point out his particular injury as an example because it happens more often than not. Here's a video showing him and the position of his body as he hits the boards. -

Our hockey league sent out a message to everyone, that the league is going to start up on April 27. At that point, the shut down of non-essential businesses would be lifted. I guess they are trying to be positive, and be prepared to start up if it all dies down in a month. -
How rare is it to have a very slight bend in your skate blade.
caveman27 replied to Beflar's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Didn't know that. The CCM Speedblade 4.0 seem to be okay so far.
