  1. Ok so...5/8 was definitely a faster ride last night. I didn't lose any turning capability and my straight away speed was improved. I'm going to play tomorrow night on 5/8 and then think about trying 3/4 on a set. Also maybe a slightly more aggressive pitch. Don't want to jack with more than one manipulated variable at a time though. Going in the right direction...thanks all!
  2. Really appreciate all of the input! So...had the Tydans done to 5/8" and skated public session today. Switching between the Blacksteel 1/2" and the Tydans. Honestly, the 5/8 just felt to me like the 1/2 does when I skate them down a bit. That's good actually because I usually don't like how fresh blades feel until an hour or so use is on them. These felt good from the start, but...the main thing is that I couldn't really open up to determine whether my straight ahead speed is any different. Tomorrow night I have practice, so that will be helpful. I'm not sure if anyone around here can do multi's, but that is interesting. I know nothing about flare, so...guess I have some reading to do. Thanks again guys!
  3. Thanks for the response Stick. I'm definitely not as east-west as Barzy, but less N/S than Leddy...somewhere in between...styles...not ability 😭 Maybe 5/8 at the same profile as a starting point?
  4. I play D, I'm feel like I'm still a strong skater (that's what I'm told), 5'9"/165, a lot of east-west, but I'm trying to increase my straight away speed. I feel like I top out and no, matter how much harder I drive...top speed doesn't increase. I'm currently skating in 2xPro's and AS1's w/ Blacksteel and Tydan DLC sharpened to 1/2" roh at a 10' radius. I'll give an analogy... I have several kayaks and in one boat, it doesn't matter how hard I paddle, the hull design won't allow it to go any faster. In another I can go faster until I can't paddle any harder. When I played in college, I just handed my skates to our equipment manager and he handed them back sharpened. He never asked what I wanted...I never questioned what he did. So... I can live with it as is, but with so many available options...why not to try to improve? I don't want to give up my sharp turning capability, but I would sure like a little more afterburner. What do you guys/girls suggest?
  5. Played my first game in the 18k's. Like them a lot, but honestly...definitely not any better than the Nexus 2n shinnies. The Reeboks weigh a little bit less on the scale (I forgot exactly how much less...will will re-weigh it anyone wants), and are marginally less bulky but on the ice I didn't notice at all. They are comfortable and perhaps a little cooler...again...nothing drastic. I like the protection above the knee better, but otherwise, the Bauers have better and more complete calf protection as well as better side of the knee domes. They also do a better job absorbing impact from both shots and hitting the ice. The Reeboks did the job well, but I can definitely feel more though them. For what I paid...definitely nice to have, but if I could keep one pair...definitely the Nexus 2n. Now...I'm curious as to how the older Reeboks and Jofas would compare. They would have to be less comfortable and heavier with the materials that were being used at time. Am I mistaken? I had DR Centurians in the early 90's...They were like wearing riot gear but ridiculously bulky and hot. I think they're still in the basement if anyone wants them. Anyway...awesome discussion...next experiment for me...AS1's...no time soon though.
  6. Cool. Do let us know what you think about them. I wanna know if anyone else thinks they're as good as I do. I will say this...I don't think we're going to see these newer pads lasting ten to twenty years like the oldies. Of course...they dry in ten seconds and weigh next to nothing comparatively.
  7. I think you are making a good decision. I just picked up a pair of 18K's ten minutes ago. I'm loving the Nexus 2n's but I'm playing so much now...and the price is too good to ignore!
  8. I wish there was a chart somewhere that broke down all the Reebok skinnies...there are so many sticks...I would be interested in trying some (I like trying different gear) but no idea where to find info. If anyone knows of such a resource...it would be most welcome!
  9. Anyone know where I can get pro stock AS2Pro's?Grabbed one off Sidelineswap, but could use another.
  10. Thanks for the response. I will check those out!
  11. Can anyone shed some light on the difference among these Reebok shinnies? How about the "NHL Series Silver?" Thanks guys/girls!

  13. When I tried the FT1's on, they struck me as similar to the Vapor 1x which I ditched for the Nexus 2n's. Shots went right through those Vapor's, and when I landed on my knees, the shock went right through my hips, back, and and neck. I love the FT1 elbow pads...not the shinguards. If I played forward and wasn't a physical player...maybe then. I'm in two leagues...one is light stuff...can wear anything. The other is up to ex-minors/college/junior level...I need protection from that bunch.
  14. Anyone else using Nexus 2N's...not the tanks that the RBK's were but they're pretty close and significantly more comfortable...I think.
  15. All passing and shots including my boomers (can only speak for myself of course) are better with this AS2 Pro than any of the ones I've tried, which are: True XC9-Nice balance and puck feel...decent power...good accuracy. Bauer FlyLite-Lightest. Ok power...not much puck feel on the blade. CCM FT2-Best all around balance of power, balance, and feel...short of the AS2Pro. True is very close to this one. STX RX3- Like the shaft shape, power is decent, no puck feel at all. Warrior Alpha QX-A little heavy feeling the way it is balanced. Good power. No feel...like the RX3...maybe a touch better Warrior Alpha DX-Here we go Warrior...all the good stuff about the QX...much better balance and feel. Great power...second to the AS2Pro (on my list) Warrior Alpha DX SL-Oddly...don't like it. It's actually heavier than my DX (on the scale) and the balance is not to my taste. I was using the DX and FT2 as my game pair. Now I'm backing up the AS2Pro with the DX. Soon..just bringing two AS2Pros. As soon as I sell some of these... For reference: RH 75 W03/P92/P29 for me and I cut them to about 59".
  16. Surprised that it is the Super Tacks AS2Pro! I have tried just about everything out there since re-entering the game and didn't think I would like a high-mid kick stick. I do take a lot of boomers, but didn't want to sacrifice feel or passing for a few extra mph/kmh. Well...got a deal on Sidelineswap, why not? I love everything about this one. Weighs the same as the Alpha DX and FT2, but because of the balance point...it actually feels like the FlyLite. Shots of all types are effortless and accurate...even awkward, off-balance shots. The blade feel is the best of the bunch...it's got touch that reminds me of a wood stick. Passing and flipping are sweet. I know stick preference is 100% subjective, but this one is for me. Anyone else an AS2Pro fan? Any others that play like it (have not tried other "slapshot sticks" such as AS1, 2SPro, HD1, or Stallion).
  17. Just an update for those interested. The Tour Medium fits me perfectly...5'9"/165/33"w/40"chest. Comes down to the top of my pants and I'm wearing suspenders over it. Protection where I need it...zero bulk. A little warm but...what isn't?
  18. I've got a pair of Blacksteels and Tydan Blacks for my Vapor 2x Pro's. At the rate I sharpen...I'm set for life. My AS1's have the SB4+, so not rushing to get another pair of Blacks for them.
  19. That sounds about the same level I'm playing right now. I like the protection of the Bauer...just trying to get used to the bulk. Anyway...I am going to use the Tour shirt in the lower level games and the Bauer for the ones where...like you said...most of us played college or Jr. You talked me into it😂.
  20. I maybe have to tighten laces one time in the third period...every fourth or fifth game. I don't need a locking system. I'm sure some like it...can only speak for myself. I love everything else about these skates. I was alternating with my AS1's but last few games have been sticking with the Bauers. I'm sure that the next sucky game I have...I'll switch off. Much more fun to blame my skates👍😎
  21. No argument...I still wear a half shield too...not too smart at this speed, but...old habits die hard...as will I probably 🥅🏒🇨🇦🤣😎
