I do have those...only thing is...no tailbone protection. I did find a pair of McDavid Thud's for $15 and a pair of Nike Hyperstrong...same price. Gonna try both and see. The Nike seems like it might be overkill...I really don't need added thigh protection, but if they are comfortable... Sure is nice to have these options.

That's pretty cool...thanks!

Hey Guys, I'm curious with all of the available options for padded base layer pants (preferably with tailbone protection...and long would be awesome rather than shorts): 1-Which you prefer and why? 2-How you facilitate fastening your socks when you wearing them? I haven't seen a padded option with sock velcro other that Shock Doc Shockskin , and those are shorts with hip protection only So...compression underneath? Garter for socks? I've been wearing Shock Doc long compression with the sock holder velcro with pants, but I am going to be trying a Super Tacks girdle and want a little more tailbone protection. There are a ton of options at several price points, but trying to avoid too much bulk and being overly hot. Also would love to avoid having to go back to a garter! Thanks all!

So the PP90 is really nice but large is too big. Sending it back for a medium. Is it so hard to be consistent CCM? Large S-Tacks girdle needs a medium PP90 shell, but you know it would take a large S-Tacks shell. PITA🤣 Hopefully...sorted after this.

I've got a Reebok 48 authentic...it's 25" across the chest and an Adidas that is 27+" that says 50 (the number is handwritten so maybe it's really a 60...but the back is 33" so WTF). These are so far off they might as well not even have sizes! Don't get me started on L v XL and the like. I wish they would just have a chart that you could look at...your height/chest/waist and it'd say...48-fit/50-loose fit/46 snug fit...something like that. Oh well...maybe it's me with the problem🤣

Full pads.

Thanks for that...I found a large PP90 at ProStock...trying that.

That's cool...I've gotten rocked with regular pants and I do alright...wouldn't mind some extra beef though. I caught and edge in a public session last summer when I first started skating again...just wind pants. I thought that was the end...felt like my a** was split open with a chisel😫. I was sore...but A-OK...that was scary...first time falling. Made me realize I wasn't gonna break if I fell😎.
-
I'll check out the ST shell...only navy and black though...right?
-
If any of you out there is of similar size...Would love to know what size/brand is working for you.
-
Appreciate your taking the time. May I ask your general size? Height and chest mainly.

Here's one for ya... I'm looking at some jersey options, and their sizing recommendations seem...ummm...strange. When I compare the measurement guides to what I have, they seem huge...but are listed as medium or even small. Here's an example: I've got a CCM pro jersey that is a 48 (fits well)...when I measure the dimensions...they're significantly smaller than what is listed currently as an Adidas 46. My old jerseys are mostly XL and are a little big on me (which is ok). I'm specially looking at an Adidas pro jersey and at 5'9"/165 lbs/40"chest/33"waist...I really don't know what size I wear. Med., large, 46, 50...no idea...they seem all over the map. Anyone want to advise?

Okay...Super Tacks girdle...size large...tried them on... here are my observations...point to point: Fit: They fit my torso perfectly and a medium would have been way to small for me with my 33-34w and 40-41 chest. Good call. The legs fit me well also...I have pretty big legs, so I definitely see how someone with smaller pins might not have luck. Length...super adjustable so...no issues with my 5'9"-ness. Staying in Place: Well, I tried them with my base layer. They seemed to stay put as I moved around and stretched and checked my wife into the kitchen doorway (took a pretty good elbow to the mush on that play). We shall see when I actually get back to it if they slide down. Not sure what I'll do about it if they do cuz...no suspender attachments. Protection: Thighs are solid...so are the hips (double hip replacement so...that helps me). Tailbone...not bad...could be a bit beefier there, but I'll know when I get knocked on my duff. Spine (upper) seems pretty good. It has D30 there (I don't know where else that stuff might be...anyone?), which is nice. Kidneys also seem well-protected. Side slashguard and back of the legs...not much going on there. I've had some pants that were amazing (Cooper Pro circa 1975...still have 'em)...these pale in comparison from that standpoint. Of course...these are much lighter and the modern gear dries by the next day, so...there's a trade off. Mobility: I've never actually felt restricted by my gear with a few exceptions. Haven't had a pair of pants that held me back and these newer ones that I'm currently using...even less so. That being said, these definitely feel less "present" in the limited context in which I've worn them. No shell yet, but I can't imagine those would make a difference in that regard. So, I am expecting to be even more mobile in these...but...gotta wait to know for sure. I tried a couple of Warrior pant shells over it (all I have)...nope...waaaaay too big. I have a pair of L PP90's coming soon...they are for shells, so...fingers crossed. Anyone know of girdle shells that have padding? I'd be into trying those. Overall: I won't know for sure until I get hit, take shots, get knocked down, but...looks promising. I think I like them and I think they will be okay. Some of the protection may be better than I anticipate, as a lot of the newer materials feel light and unsubstantial, but actually do a good job. If that's not the case...I may take them to a shoemaker (when the world resumes) and see if I can get some plastic inserts sewn strategically for a little extra help. If there's something specific you want to know...holla. Thanks for all the help in the pre-purchase phase! Now...I wonder how the 2sPro stacks up😉

Update... Girdle came today...haven't tried it on yet, but...gotta say...it doesn't seem to be as well padded as either of my pants (HP45 or QRL). I haven't done much but give them the once over. If the shells have some additional padding...that would make a difference, but just the girdle...I'm not overly impressed (especially the side slashguards). Gonna give it a fair shake though...no rush to judgement. The 9K is not as protective????? If I am missing something...let me know.

I really appreciate the insight you have all provided. I've gotten to the point where I'm now putting them in low and hard consistently. I have found that the curve doesn't really affect my shot. I still like the 29/92/03 better than 88 overall, but I could play with either. I do not like the 28...just not for me, but that's a whole different discussion. While I agree that there are some similarities between a hard pass and a lower speed wrister, a true through-the-netter...not so much. Granted, not every shot we take has to be a rocket, but...those are what I'm practicing. Head-up, spot-pickin', 2-4" off the ice...rockets. Getting there...hopefully it translates to the frozen pond🇨🇦🥅🏒👍😎 Thanks again!

Buzz...your Triflex comment reminded me...I used Koko 221 Custom Pro sticks from 1975 through college ('82). That was "my twig," but they stopped making them. Then around 1995 or so I saw one...it was an updated version. Of course I bought it. That sucker had so much fibre de verre, I could laid two of them across a creek and driven my car to the other side! Also great for doing curls.

I really dig my HP45 pants. I am trying a Super Tacks girdle...when it arrives. Hope it doesn't join this list🤣
-
I'm about the same size as you, but I have pretty big legs. Sounds like large is going to work for me. I found a pair of Super Tacks on EB for $75...looking forward to trying them out!
-
I will definitely let you know how it works out. As I mentioned...I went through this sizing thing before...the Warrior large-waaaay to big...medium is just right. CCM the medium was waaaay too small- but the large...perfect. I still need suspenders with both...I think that's because of my base layer material...it's slick and the pants slide even when they feel perfectly fitted, but that...is another issue 🙂 I have no idea about Bauer, True, or any other brands. It'd be nice if they were uniform, but...first world problem fir shur.

Since we can't dry land train all day...I'm taking a break, and asking (anyone else who's bored)...what piece of gear were you dying to get your hands on that ended up being disappointment. Not to say that it wasn't any good...it just wasn't any good for you! Me...I grew up with the game in the 70's on Long Island. Naturally, I was an Islander fan, and when I was about 14, I moved to defense and I absolutely idolized Denny Potvin! I've played D and worn #5 for my entire (now five decade) career. I wanted a Lange helmet (became Northland) sooooo bad because Denny wore one. Well...I saved my pennies, and went into the pro shop at Twin Rinks (my home rink), and boom...I got me one! I have never worn anything so heavy and uncomfortable on my head in my life! Maybe it didn't fit right, or maybe I had the wrong head shape, but getting ready for practice...I would dread putting this thing on! It was so heavy that when I turned my head fast, it felt like it was going to tear it right off my neck. Anyway...about three miserable weeks later...CCM Pro Standard and never looked back. Still wearing the descendants of that helmet. Hey...it worked for Bossy and Trottier...and they weren't too bad😉 Whatchoogot?
-
Thanks Mark...with regard to size...I wear a medium Warrior QRL Pro but a large CCM HP45. I am told that the Super Tacks girdle also fits quite small. I found one for about $75 (it's a large), so I am trying it.
-
Awesome...thank you! It's tough to find consistency in online reviews, plus wading through the infinitely unhelpful "reviews" that state..."I got this for my 1X year old and he/she says it's awesome." can be a chore😣🤣 I did see praise for that 9k, but if the SuperTacks are more protective... I found the same sizing phenomenon with CCM. Originally I got the HP45 in a medium based on the Warrior, which I was already wearing (actually had to return a large QRL as it was falling-down big). Could barely get the medium CCM over my hips. Weird. Anyway...keep those insights coming folks...yer awesome!
-
I'm currently using CCM HP45 (large) and Warrior Covert QRL (medium). Really like both, but thinking about trying a girdle/shell...I like trying things. Here are my questions... 1-Which girdle has the beefiest hip protection? 2-Tail protection? 3-What size would you recommend? I'm 5'9"/165/33w/40"chest. Thanks all!

The combination of wrist rolling, top hand separation, and a sweeping low following through seems to be helping. I was about 85% today with about 200 shots. It's funny, I just never concentrated on wristers before. I'd stay after practice and work on slapshots and one-timers (if someone else stayed) until the maintenance guy kicked me out. It's also been forever since I had this much practice time.
