New Sherwood girdle looks legit. Has spender buttons that also hold the shell in place. Looks like it's out of stock in some sizes, though. Anyone try this out, yet? I hate regular pants, but most shells are mangy looking. Bauer 2s pro shells were great (with the velcro) but are all sold-out never to be seen again.

@flip12 I don't think that would've fixed my issues. Not going to get into why, as I don't want to breath life into this thread anymore by opening the door for a bunch of "did you bake it right" responses. I'm an engineer. There was a single-page insert. It wasn't difficult. The thing is, the True fit guarantee is only a 30-day window. Contrast that with CCM's 90 days. That does not leave much room for: sourcing a new tongue sourcing and installing a new holder sourcing new steel/re-profiling stock steel sourcing new insole re-bakes that sideline the skates for 24 hours actually testing the skates out on ice etc.. ad nauseam. I was only planning on taking these to sticks and pucks. Given the frequency with which I'm on the ice already, that wouldn't leave much time at all. At the end of the day, it was basically a situation of, "how is the fit out of the box after a few bakes" with no other modifications. It's really not a big deal. I appreciate everyones help and input, though. This will be my last post on the TF9's. Anyone that is still curious about these skates for themselves can PM me. Cheers.

Ok, so you're proving my point that SVH marketing is incorrect/misleading. Based on the fact that I fit into any number of CCM/Bauer skates, it would be a safe assumption to say that no, TF9 do not fit 85-90% of the population. I do not need an "average" foot for this to be true. 90% of normal probability distribution is roughly 1.645 sigmas. I just need to be somewhere in there, and mathematically, based on what I just said, its **highly** likely that I do. Lastly, the onus isn't on me to prove this point. It is on SVH/True.

We're beating a dead horse here. The True retail skate last does not at all resemble my foot. I have now confirmed this not once, but twice, with two different sizes. CCM and Bauer both have 3 different fits across 2-3 different skates. True, until recently, had just the TF series in regular and wide. If they had something "tapered", eg, that might've been a better candidate. I'm calling bs on SVH marketing video from a while back saying the TF would fit "85-90%" of market. All things being equal, I think a company with 9 options (like CCM) is likely to have the greater chance of a match than one with 2 options (pre-Catalyst). Catalyst I'm sure is an improvement. If I'm able to get my hands on a pair in person, I will be sure to try it out. Going forward, if I ever end up in a pair of True's, it'll likely be the SVH customs. Catalyst Pro. After looking into it, it looks like the Catalyst don't have the extra "wrap" of the SVH. I think I would be happier if some of that were removed. Watching the video, it also appears you can get custom foam added. That was prob my biggest gripe about the TF9.

The skates might be thermoformable, but at least in my case, that didn't translate well into their ability to take up the actual shape of my feet. All retail skates are made from some sort of generic last. Out of the box, True's last had the least resemblance to my feet as compared to CCM and Bauer. It is this particular fact that led to the poor fitment I experienced. Simply put, I was not a good candidate for their choice of generic foot last. IMHO, there's too much emphasis being put on "thermoformability". Outside of a completely custom skate, this feature has a very limited ability to effect the overall fit. You can't just grab any old boot and say, 'well this has best-in-class thermoformability, therefore it's going to fit the best". This is wrong. That's the takeaway here. For me, anyway.
-
Its like I said: boot isn't very "moldable" so much as it is expandable. Without a good out-of-the-box fit (which you kinda laughed at me for), it'll never fit properly. Skate fit lengthwise, but that was about it. Forgetting the whole rigamarole of getting it on and off in the first place, there was too much negative space.
-
They just weren't for me. Very painful. Not an indictment of the skate itself. Having to go down a full size to get the right amount of negative space (or lack thereof), I ended up having the eyelets making my ankle bone raw. I imagine the redesigned boot is better.
-
Ya just doesn't work for me. I tried a half and full size down and both are incredibly painful. Actually the most painful skates I've ever worn. My feet are absolutely destroyed from baking and fitting two separate pairs back to back lol. I need a stiff drink to numb the pain!
-
Going to try the next size up. I think honestly skate was not meant to be used a whole size down from CCM and Bauer. That's just a "hack" people are doing to be able to stick with this skate for whatever reason.
-
Problem with that is then I lose wrap. Not a solution, imho. Idk. I'll take them to the obligatory sticks and pucks since I got the 30-day fit guarantee, but I'm not really sure these are meant for the Fit 1 type people. I also am wondering about the whole sizing debacle. The length is good, but the eyelets are digging in to my ankles. I would have to wear socks with these.
-
Baked the skate. Skate has now cooled. Literally cannot get my foot back in without excruciating pain. When the foot is in the skate, there's actually quite a bit of negative space. I even went a whole size down from Bauer.
-
Right, but I'd rather make at most 1 trip to Canada, and if possible 0. Definitely not 2.
-
Because I intend to pay in CAD. It ends up being cheaper with the exchange rate.
-
I got scanned at Pure Hockey before, no problem. In the case of Bauer, you can request via the tablet they have there to have the link emailed to you. I don't know how CCM or True do it, but if it's the same, in theory I could get scanned and then choose a different pro shop to work with. I don't particularly care for the teenagers running the Pure Hockey around me. If I went the custom route, id prefer to go to the shop I used to frequent in Canada when I lived closer to the border. It's still close enough to make the trip, but not several trips. If it sweetens the pot, I can throw $20 at the kid working the counter. They're getting paid hourly, anyway, so I fail to see the problem. Edit: I guess a better question is, is the scanner automated like Bauer's, or is it a kid with an iPad.
-
So what you're saying is, True does not provide a digital copy of the scan, like Bauer does.
-
I have another question for the True Crew: can I get scanned somewhere and then get a link to the scan, send it off in an email to another store and have them process the order?
-
Ya I wrapped my CCM's and Bauers. There's not much to it.
-
If I clamp the forefoot during the baking process (after wrapping), would that do anything, or would it just deform other parts of the boot?
-
Haha I totally skimmed that, my bad. Ya I was talking about the SVH Customs.
-
That stinks. In the video, they specifically say its made custom to your foot and not some existing mold that's retroactively fitted.
-
You sure you and @althoma1 don't work for True? 😀
-
Under the right conditions, I could see myself getting some SVH Customs. It looks like they're built using the Catalyst boot? Also, I was unaware there was a True scanning app for the iPhone. It said I should be the same size as my Bauer scan...
-
Catalyst Pro in all black is great. I don't care for the yellow.
-
Not sure I mentioned an actual dimension. Just saying that anything in a modern CCM/Bauer is fine for me and that if the True's are materially more voluminous, it could be a problem. I guess I was under the impression that the entire skate was thermoformable, not just the aft 2/3rds. I've watched the SVH videos and have seen the one-piece co-molded skate last. In theory you'd think they'd have been able to make the front 1/3 of the skate more narrow and allowed for it to be widened during the baking process. Am I misunderstanding? This seems more suited for someone with a Colorado Avalanche foot
