  1. ...that's nice? Stewie: how well do you know the person that sat in the interview? If its a situation where you had a good rapport, and is part of why you were interviewing, I'd reach out. If you know them, its ok to say "man I blew that question, I got tripped up, I get so nervous". Sometimes awareness is a good thing, and all that it takes.
  2. At least old man Kowalski is consistent with drinking the haterade
  3. By that logic, the NHL never would have approved composite sticks. Not saying this stuff works, but the NHL isn't in the business of blocking things that make them perform better, so long as it's not a chemical acting on the body.
  4. do i need to go through a shop?
  5. does step offer any sort of warranty? I had steel crack in half, with no discernable explanation.
  6. I mentioned this to the Bauer rep at winter fest... I really think they exercised poor judgment when labeling the steel for the new edge system (The steel itself only says ls2, catalog says ls2 edge). How many people will call shops asking for ls2, and require the edge variant? Or their parents head into the shop, and don't know that they've got the new version... Or old version... Sure competent shop employees talking to competent customers can get it right, but yeah.... Like that ever happens.
  7. Easton S19 Gloves, 2010 Model Size : 13" Time Used: 3 months (twice a week, couple stick times, tournaments) Fit: I like the anataomical type fit on the back of the hands with the adjustable cuff. The first few uses the gloves fit a bit rigid, it almost had a rubbery/plastic feel to it. First game I wore them was the start of the tournament, where I played 4 games, then played about another 3 before they felt 'normal' (this was in august in north carolina, so I sweat quite a bit in them). The first three games were probably the toughest, and was fearing i made a bad choice. Getting past that hump, they've been nothing but comfortable. 8.5/10-- Points docked for uncomfortable break in period, I came from 2009 s11's previously, where i did not have this problem. Weight & Mobility: the glove yielded great dexterity in flexion on all of the fingers, full dexterity with respect to extension was not optimal until the 7 game break in period. the gloves are light, and never have been observed to gain mass from sweat and melted ice. The adjustable cuff provides the ability to modify where the back end of the cuff lies, which could open things up for some players, the glove is used with fully extended cuffs and has not impeeded any wrist motion. 9.5/10 Protection: No shots or signficant blows to the hand have been recieved. The glove seems protective enough to suit my tastes, I've never felt uncomfortable in the glove. The thumb needs improvement, slack needs to be removed and the protection needs to be pushed inward (or wrapped around the thumb better). I feel as though my thumb sticks a little too low, making it the leading edge, exposing too much to sticks, or pucks, coming up the shaft of the stick in hand. I lost my thumb nail this way in an older pair of gloves. 7/10 -- points lost for thumb protection not fitting closer to thumb. Durability: Tackimacks have been used through the life of this glove, and no palm wear has been seen. the material on the body of the glove has no visible wear. some of the trim is starting to fray slightly. 9/10 Palm: Tackimacks have been used through the life of this glove, and no palm wear has been seen. The stretch gussets could use a material with a higher youngs modulus, in order to increase the tension. the palm does not transmit slight nuances in puck feel the way that I would desire. 5/10 -- points docked for gussets stretching too much and palms generally feeling "dead" Intangibles: If i really didnt need a pair of gloves, I would have put this pair back, and grabbed another. But, perhaps, mine are not exclusive to the sloppy manufacturing. There's pieces of excess material everywhere along a ton of the seams. I would expect to find gloves that look like this in the bin at marshalls or tj maxx. whether my gloves are the exception, or the rule, it comes down to poor quality control. 3/10 -- Points docked for sloppy cosmetic issues, something that shouldnt happen on the high end of the product line Overall: The glove fit is great, the glove function is great. Theres a tweak to the thumb that I'd make, theres some cosmetic quality control issues with respect to excess material, and the palms are a bit quirky. If the gloves were something like $30 less, I'd be thrilled with them i guess. Easton has room for improvement. 7/10
  8. dear blackstone, i want a commission <3 puck_it
  9. then thanks for being my tax attorney. anything else you do consulting for? I hope you're licensed.
  10. because the rink is literally a mile away. we have it worked out. i need a free hand to carry beer. and thanks for being my accountant, jimmy. i need tax advice from modsquad like i need a hole in my head.
  11. ok. a guy on my team was considering getting one for the team to throw 5 bucks in, per sharpening and after the thing is paid off, it becomes the beer money jar, lol. So i figure maybe 15 every other week, if that... but i guess it's going to become a question of will we have 5 guys run by the house to get sharpened on the way to the rink... and at the same time might as well let whomever is sharpening charge other people they know, too.
  12. whats the advisable threshold to make the leap, on a basis of number of skates? like 10/wk?
  13. i heard about it in the news...but until i played that level... i had no idea... it was a bit disturbing, honestly, and i've got a strong stomach for disturbing things

  16. everyone heals differently. it wont ever be the same, thats just a product of having a surgery like that. I didnt intend to be discouraging, but i thought it would be most beneficial to point out everything i could. Just do EVERYTHING that your doctors and physical therapists say to get back into it. Where are you located? before you get to the point where you're going to do physical therapy, call around to see if you can find someone who specializes in PT for sports injuries. They tend to be a bit more agressive, and can get a better feel for where you were and need to get back to. Otherwise, people who deal with grandmas instead of athletes might only bring you to a point where you function, not perform. give us updates, or ask questions, if you want. we've got a pretty good sample of people with bad breaks ;)
  17. I'm one month shy of the 2 year mark. I fractured both maleoli, requiring screws through the tibia and a plate along my fibula. there was no soft tissue damage, but the tibia fracture went through to the joint. That said, both my physical therapist and my surgeon said that i have had the best recovery for that type of fracture they'd ever seen (oddly enough, i was my surgeons first hockey player, and now he's a surgeon for the Hurricanes). I had nearly 100% recovery on the ROM with plantar flexion (pointing toes) and a slightly tougher time (75-90%) ROM on dorsal flexion (like in a deep knee bend). The bad: may ankle is permanantly larger, and the screws on the inside ankle hurt when pressure is put on them. I had to punch my vectors to fit comfortably, but the One95's fit beautifully after baking. Additionally, there's still bad days, as well as good days. Sometimes the fucker just has a constant dull pain. It's annoying at times. It makes creaking noises.. it feels like i want to pop the joint, like cracking my knuckles, but i just cant do it, so that frustrates me. when i do pull it off on the rare occasion, holy hell does it feel good. What's this mean for hockey? Not a whole lot. There are some days when i tie my skate and am wincing from pain, but once i get moving it dulls away. There's days when i forget i broke it. Then there's days when i get off the ice feeling like garbage. It took me a good 6 months playing twice a week to get the right endurance levels back where my ankle didnt want to just quit. All in all, it might still improve from being abused (not as sensitive to big time loading as it has been in the past), but i'm at about where i'm going to get. I'm not really limited by anything, as long as I can deal with minor pain, and minor arthritis. It's a tough recovery when you fracture a joint, especially such an important one. Do everything the physical therapist says. I pushed myself quite a bit, never complained. My therapist said she had a tough time gauging how far she could push me, since i never showed any sort of pain. the biggest piece of advice is: dont be discouraged when you go in, things take time. Be realistic, and know when too much is too much. When you're back in skates, it feels toatlly foreign, but after the second skate or so, it all comes back. it's just conditioning from there.
