You don't need to crank down on the laces with the Makos. Yes, make sure they are snug but they don't need to be as tight as possible either.
-
He probably hasn't adjusted to the pitch of the skates yet. Take him to another stick and puck session and work on edges and start and stops. Should take care of that.
-
Really, the only adjustment you'll have to worry about is the change in pitch. It's just more aggressive. Shouldn't take too long. Other than that, it'll be a great skate for you.

If you have the headroom, buy them online at icewarehouse. They have free returns on skate purchases, as long as they aren't sharpened. Take them to the shop, have them baked and decide then. Or, if the shop will, order them through the local rep which I imagine they could do even if they don't have an active account. Not sure on that one though, it's been a while since I dealt with reps.

Yup. Can't please anyone, apparently. FWIW, holding my Mako I and Mako II skates side by side the II is a smidge lighter which is what flip12's weight is probably referencing.
-
The majority public is still waiting for release over here too. June 20th.
-
I've never really understood why people get so caught up with how much a skate weighs. If the skate fits, and in some cases have the leg strength, 100grams difference is negligible. I mean, sure, if we're talking S15's compared to Mako's then yeah there will be a difference, but in today's skate market almost all skates are within 150grams of each other (estimated guess). My MLX's weighed more than my Mako2's and I don't even notice a difference in weight at all.
-
A little, in my opinion. Not by much. I still have my old Makos and comparing them with the Mako2 isn't exactly accurate considering how beat up my M1's are and the M2's are pretty much in pristine condition.
-
The M8's that I got to hold seemed to be just a step down in stiffness from the Mako2. I think the skate will do really well for Easton.
-
I would imagine adding a shim would be the easiest way to get that done.
-
Yup, exact same assuming you don't profile them when you get them. Which I don't, I skated on both Makos as is straight out of the box. Checked them both first to make sure they weren't at a weird radius or anything. Heat gun the top of the skate and roll those edges out. Additionally, don't crank down as tight up at the top of the boot. Because of how these skates fit, you don't need to.

Well, quite a few posts lost. Figure I'd start this back up with the Mako 2 skate. Picked them up this past Sunday. I have skated on them four times, twice on that same Sunday. I could have been wearing a Mako 1 on one foot and a Mako 2 on the other foot and not have had a single problem. The Mako 2 is a bit more comfy and the extra padding on the ankles is noticeable and very appreciated. The felt tongue with lace bite protection is awesome, too. Plus they look badass, in my opinion.

I finally had a shot block in my Makos that really effin' hurt last night. Doesn't help it came off a stick of an ex-pro, but I literally had to take the skate off to subside the pain before I could take another shift. There is a pretty sizable mark on the inside of the left skate, but the structural integrity of the skate seems to be okay. Probably won't be getting shot blockers since they just don't feel right to me on my feet, but Lobsta is right... try to not get shot in the feet.
-
The new look of the Mako II skate will certainly help as well.
-
It would not surprise me that some of these are/were samples or that they slapped names on them. Take my sticks for example. I have three Kariya's with his nameplate and number on the shaft. He's been retired since 2011... however, it is his flex/curve.
-
Very very very nice.

I've been using the HSX gloves for a little over a week now, and they are far and away my new favorite glove. Mako 2 skates... yup. Will get. Interested in the HSX shins, and I'll probably try out the stick. Getting kinda tired of the V9E. On an interesting note, their blade chart in the catalog shows the E7 and E9 still... are we going to get them back mid cycle? I waaaaaaaaaant my Heatley back so much.
-
I thought about changing the stock ones out when I first got the Makos but kept them instead. Zero problems with knee strain or extra tension in my legs, but leg strength and skating has always been my strongest asset.
-
Had mine a couple weeks before release, on the ice average 5 times a week between reffing/playing with zero durability issues.
-
Doesn't really make it a 'modified' skate. That would mean that every skate that uses a different holder is 'modified'.
-
Mako 2's out in the wild.
-
Haha, fits like one too.
-
Yes, full Digital on both. Yup. HSX glove.
-
Got these in over the holiday. Will be my new gloves for the rest of the seasons. Easily the most comfortable glove Easton has put out in recent years, in my opinion. The RS is a close second in my book.
-
I imagine that the Mako 2's will be out sometime next year, probably Spring if I had to guess.
