  1. They look like what Leetch used to wear.
  2. Poured about $200 into my car the weekend of thanksgiving. Basically 2 thirds my paycheck, on tires, breaks and a serpentine belt. Got some good deals, but still, spent a lot of money. (I think you can guess where this is going. Car in front stopped abruptly. Car behind them hit the first car. I saw the whole thing, was following at a reasonable distance. Stepped on the break (didn't even slam) going probably 25 miles an hour, and started sliding immediately. Thought about serving into the right lane, but there was a car coming behind me, so all I could do was point it striaght and wait for impact. Hit the second car, busted my headlight, bent up my hood and probably my frame, and got a $95 ticket for following too closely, only because the whiny girl wanted to call the cops and make a report, even though I told her all that would happen is we'd both get tickets. (Michigan is a no-fault state, and the driver in the front had no damage so she just left.) Can't afford this crap.
  3. I always pulled this move, it was pretty easy to get two cases of beer in once I took them out of the boxes, and because I had my hockey bag on my shoulder 2 or 3 times a week, no one got suspicious. I was smart enough to bring sticks to, (sometimes just because I was actually on the way back from drop in.) The one time my buddy didn't bring sticks, the RA asked him about it, but luckily he was quick on his feet and told her a sob story about how it got broken.
  4. Fairly simple mod. I got MIA narrows and was hoping they would be tighter than they are, on the back of the hand. Grabbed a pair of cheap wristbands from Walmart, sewed them quickly in the back, and I have the fit I want. Probably won't last long, but I'm going to skate with them and make sure I like them, and then get the local shoe repair place to do them a little more effectively.
  5. I noticed that too, I'd never seen it either.
  6. Finally landed another pair of MIAs, not to mention a pair of narrows, which fit a lot better for me than wides. What's interesting is the liner appears to have an earlier version of the silvershield, white instead of yellow but it definitely seems like it has silver in the weave.
  7. We're back on groovy and funkadelic.
  8. The first time I saw a pair of ebay gloves north of $200 and didn't think it was unreasonable. Wish I would have been in a position to grab them. Congrats.
  9. Sounds like every time I put a pair of Franchises in my watch list, even though they don't fit as well as my PPFs and I havent tried a warrior palm yet that compares to the MSH.
  10. That was my job before I got hired at the rink. Apparently, he had been in about a week before, and when he put them back on the wall, my coworker said "Dude, you can see how they're put up, just put them like you found them." I guess he got his revenge...
  11. Ugh, that'll happen when pigs fly. I had one customer pick up gloves, try them on, look at me, look at the wall, look at the gloves, look back at me, then drop the gloves on the floor and walk out.
  12. What does the left shoe say on the heel?

    Warrior Diablo

Warrior Diablo Non-Grip 85 Flex Kovalev Curve 6'1" 260 lbs. I play both forward and defense about the same amount of time. After using the Widow at Winterfest 2010, I've always had it in the back of my mind to try the Dagger taper again, remembering the pop my shot had. Finally caught a good deal on ebay for a brand new Diablo a few months ago. Blade I'd hesitate to say the stick is pingy, the way I like, but I would definitely say it is a crisp and sharp feel. After a few months use, there is surprisingly little damage. I beat up blades, as I'm a bit of a hacker, and stick battle as often as I can. This one hasn't shown any damage and the feel is very good, among the best I've used. Because of the longer blade than I usually use, it has been rammed into the board more than usual and the toe still looks brand new. 9/10 Shaft/Flex I cut a lot of the top of my sticks, about 7 inches off of this one. I like them collarbone height, and I was worried about the effect on flex. I've seen very little change in flex, it feels like an 85. However, I have noticed that the dagger taper is a bigger transition than it seemed like it would be. I feel like I've had to adjust my technique to get any consistency in my shots and hard passes. Now that I've adjusted, my shot has improved over my old sticks and I'm very pleased with it. I think I'm a dagger taper devotee from here on out. 8/10 for the adjustment. Stickhandling/receiving passes Like I stated before, I prefer a lively blade, but I feel like this one splits the difference nicely. Not quite as pingy as I like for stick handling, but enough to do the job, and because of the slightly more crisp feel, receiving passes has improved. I'm really impressed with this one, even over the TotalOne replacement blade that I previously thought was the best I'd used so far. 10/10. Shooting After adjusting technique, my wrist and snap shots have benefited from the Dagger Taper. My release feels quicker, and I find that in a pinch, when I'm just throwing the puck at the net to get out of a jam I can still get some velocity on it because of the taper. Very impressive. I'm still dialing in my slapshot, coming from a Standard shaft, but I've realized keeping my hand higher gets me back to where I'd like to be. 9/10. Weight and balance The shop I work in didn't carry the diablo, so it had been awhile since I'd held one before I ordered it and I was concerned it would be significantly heavier than the Widow. I was pleased to find that while it is a bit heavier than the widow, it compared nicely to my Mission Titanium and AK27 shaft/TotalOne blade that serve as my other sticks. Furthermore, the larger blade and the way I cut my sticks down had me wondering if I'd end up with a blade heavy stick, but surprisingly it still feels well balanced. I was prepared to add a wood plug to even it out but that hasn't been necessary. Very impressive. 10/10 Durability I beat up blades but I rarely if ever damage or break shafts, and this one looks great. Few paint marks, no dings or slashes. With the blade resisting damage as well, I think this will prove to be a very durable OPS. 9/10. Intangibles Appearances wise, I kind of like this stick. The black and yellow version is decent. I like the white handle. I find the dagger taper graphic running down the bottom of the blade a bit distracting, might paint over that, but I like the look. I do find the non grip to be a little more slick than most. I'm not crazy about it, and I may have to add a tape spiral. I don't like sticky grips but I am liking the velvet grip of some of Warriors recent offerings, I might have to go to that next. 8/10 Conclusion Fantastic stick, all around. I'm a huge fan of this model. There is very little I don't like about it, and the dagger taper is my new favorite configuration. I expect to use them for a long time. 53/60
  14. All signs point to suicide. Shot himself in the chest, just like the other former NFLer who did the same, with specific instructions that his brain be studied. I wonder if Seau was thinking along the same lines.
  15. New stick, Warrior Diablo. Can't tell if its the new curve (Kovalev) or the Dagger taper but its going to be an adjustment. Also got some Easton Air lowers, Thrashers pro stock, appear to have never been used. Mated perfectly with my nike uppers.
  16. Just got my first one about getting my third stick. Unfortunately, she doesnt collect shoes or purses so I don't have a bargaining chip. Fortunately...she doesn't collect shoes or purses.
  17. Ha, funny story. The rumor around the rink is he got the job because he got fired at city hall for embezzling funds. With no hockey background, they pulled strings to get him the director job, apparently because when he went down, someone else skated at City Hall and got him a new job to finish sweeping it under the rug and keep it all quiet. So I'd presume his job is safe.
  18. The Ice rink where I worked in the pro shop let me go today. Budget cuts and adjustments leave me as the odd man out. My boss assures me it is not performance based. Still, its very irritating to be told I no longer have a job from the guy who is personally responsible for each and every financial shortcoming tell me that I don't fit in the budget. Every time I noticed lost revenue, I told him, every time I suggested a change or an improvement, he ignored me and we kept on with crappy business as usual. And now, with the board of directors leaning hard on him, I pay the price. Luckily, I was looking for a job anyway because the rink shuts down every summer and I need a summer job, and luckily there are good prospects (new Dicks Sporting Goods and Belle Tire both opening up this month) but it still sucks that I wont be back in August. It sucks that my employee discount and free ice time is gone, and more importantly it sucks that I don't get paid to spend time in my favorite place with my favorite people anymore. Financially, I can do better, but for a full-time student, a relaxing, stress free job like this was perfect and I am damn sure going to miss it as I reenter the shit covered corporate retail world.
  19. Saw these on PSHGs page, and I loved the carbon with nylon stripes. Very interesting style choice, they turned out great.
  20. This thread got hard to read all of a sudden. Not to be a grammar nazi but can we clean it up a bit?
  21. Skates - Bauer Vapor XXX Stick - Warrior AK27/TotalOne blade, Mission Titanium Gloves - Eagle PPF, Warrior Franchise Helmet - CCM V08/Jofa 480L Black Pantsc - McKenney Pro Elite Shoulder Pads - Bauer Vapor 10 Elbow Pads - Jofa 9044 Shin Pads - Bauer Pro Series
  22. My latest additions. Bauer Pro series shin guards (bauer's last pair of 16" pads in stock) CCM V08 with FM480, Warrior Franchise that I've had for a bit but never made it in this thread, Eagle PPFs, and of course a brand new MSH hockey bag thanks to Marcelo at JunkyardAthletic.
  23. I read it as Aireaye trying to explain that Vapor stuff should not be exclusive to forwards and Supreme stuff should not be bought and used exclusively by defensemen.
  24. Made that mistake too. I was doing a toe wrap and a couple kids were in the shop trying to mimic me. I was messing with one kid and told him he was doing it wrong, so I took his stick and taped it up. Now another kid keeps showing up just barely late to practice and begging me to tape his stick while he goes and gets dressed. The first time I didnt mind, but the second time I thought I'd better nip it in the bud and make him tape his own stick.
  25. I bought a pair with someone else's name on them from this forum, then ran into the guy at Winterfest while I was wearing them.
