  1. Getting frustrated with rivets loosening or popping out on a regular basis. Seems like 1-2 times a month replacing them. Though I love the fit, thinking of going to mako 2's or try another brand to not have such high maintenance and ongoing costs.
  2. JDub - will standing when heating the skate and speed plate risk widening the skate slightly? Also, will speed plate be available to test during Bauer Experience in AZ next week?
  3. Looks like Scott updated the website with new look, videos, etc.
  4. Your rivets issues are with your VH Footwear skates not your Makos, correct?
  5. I haven't had any rivet issues with my Makos but my VHs are constantly coming loose. My LHS said that since the sole is so thin and carbon it is hard for the rivet to bite in. They don't carry the ideal size rivet as well and with a manual riveter it is harder to get a good bite. He suggested considering putting copper in on all or majority of rivets.
  6. Mine have rust in AZ. Don't get much drier than here. Skates have insoles removed, hung upside down and ceiling fan on high in an extra bedroom. No rust on my mako I or old pair of CCMs.
  7. Had a chance to take a demo pair out this morning. Although demos were half size to big had no issues with the outside ankle rubbing that I got with the very first skate on my Mako I's. Might be grabbing a pair.
  8. Have you posted your video yet? Curious to see and show my LHS as mine keeps cutting into my Achilles.
  9. Think I used wrong terminology. I mean when when skating forwards and then reversing into backward crossovers but still going in same direction. Like when a forward skates toward the boards and then opens up to face the play and is now going backwards. Its that open up where feels like catching the heel due to the pitch angle.
  10. anyone had difficulty doing forward to backward transitions with a forward pitched skate like makos or grafs? Where catch the heel of the runner and get tossed down
  11. Unfortunately don't have any of the MLX screws. LHS said is common issue with an all composite boot and will keep happening over and over.
  12. I have LS2 on my VH Footwear skates. The front part of the tower on both skates will shift side to side. Couple rivets spin but they appear to be tight in terms of being pressed. Will new rivets fix this or is this related to the boot and will be an ongoing issue?
  13. Since you mentioned you got them indirectly from a rep, I'd guess they are customs with a heel lift and increased size on the quarters to provide bit more volume.
  14. Anyone had rust start showing on their eyelets? I remove insoles and hand upside down to dry every time. Plus live in very dry climate.
  15. Though the customer service is good if you have to ship back a couple times it starts getting expensive fast.
  16. For those with broken tendon guards, anyone done what Scott suggested and cut a small hole in back of tendon guard and replace the rivet that holds it? If so, holding up better?
  17. Anyone know how the length on the RBZ 130 with the 1" extension is compared to the older Easton S13 long/85s long/75s II long?
  18. Anyone know if they'll be selling this new ccm jock with garters?
  19. No need to bake without the laces in. They will open up plenty to get your foot in when hot.
  20. Doesn't Scott do this on customs by request? Maybe email him and see how he does it.
  21. I've used velcro straps or ace bandage on all my skates as I have a low volume foot to get a snugger fit. along with that I pressed around the heel area to help improve heel lock.

    BASE Nasty

Background: 6’1 / 180 lbs / Shoot left / Play wing & occasional D Play 3-4 times week in a C/B organized pickup game Recent sticks used past year: Bauer APX2 77 flex Backstrom Reebok Ribcore 85 flex Bergeron Warrior Widow 85 flex Gionta Stick being reviewed: BASE Nasty (80 flex, BC28 curve) Used for past 4 months.Aesthetics: The paint job is clean, primarily black with red Nasty writing on it. I believe you can order the Nasty writing in blue or orange now too. Blade 10/10 The BC28 curve is Base's version of the Kreps. I had no trouble using it for first time coming from the Gionta and Backstrom. For me the curve works fantastic as the lie 5 benefits my stance and am able to get off solid shots of all kinds where my slapper struggled with the Gionta and Backstrom. The blade has a sharkskin coating texture on it. Tape adheres well and maybe that coating adds a bit of cushioning. I love the puck feel on it. The blade isn't as thin as on my APX or Ribcore and has a softer feel to it. I hate pingy blades and this feels to me more like a One95 blade feel. I find it easy to stick handle on the heel and be ready to fire away. The blade itself has held up well, no chips or cracks. Shaft/Flex 9.5/10 I went with an 80 flex as I like to take primarily snap and wrist shots. Base offers several flexes and shaft textures to choose from along with many blade patterns. I found the stick to be pretty true to the flex rating. Perfect balance between a 75/77 and 85/87. I get into some board battles so might try an 85 flex for my next one. 4 months of regular use and still has great pop in it. I went with the powder matte grip. The grip kinda feels like a velvet grip on the matte. If you want a tackier grip feel I'd get the clear grip but clear may chip easier. Stickhandling/receiving passes 9.5/10 The blade provides nice cushion and is not pingy. I could not stand the Ribcore stiff pingy blade but loved this. I don't have the softest hands and this blade helps me control passes easier and gives good feedback on where the puck is. Shooting 10/10 Right out of the box I felt like I was firing rockets. With the BC28 curve it is easy for a shot to rise quick but have adjusted to it now. I liked my APX2 for shooting but the Nasty just feels a step better. Shots are crisp off the blade with a nice solid feel. The stick gives a feel like it will be forgiving if your form isn't perfect and still give you a solid shot. Weight and balance 9/10 Fairly light stick. Not as light as the APX2 or Ribcore but still top end stick weight range. Balance is solid so on ice I don't notice it being a bit heavier then some others. Durability 10/10 So far I have gotten slashes, slapshots deflected off the shaft and the shaft looks great. My APX2 (grip) has the paint chipping off everywhere contact occurred; not with the Nasty. As mentioned above, the blade is solid and no signs of chipping. I'm surprised at how well cosmetically it looks after 4 months. One cool feature is the lower part of the shaft has polarfibre texture and seems to help cosmetics in that area. I'm not hard on my sticks from a breaking perspective but so far no signs of weakness in the shaft or blade areas. Intangibles N/A One of the cool things with BASE sticks is the ability to choose from many flexes, shaft textures, shaft lengths and blade patterns. Can even have your name and number put on it. All for about $65 less than major name brand top end sticks. Conclusion (58/60 = 97%) I was pleasantly surprised by the Nasty and will be ordering another one. It is a great performing stick for the price especially knowing you can truly order the flex, blade, texture that you want.
  23. I have both the mako 1 and VH and find protection to be the same. Felt hard passes on both skates. If you want protection buy skate fenders/shot blockers.
  24. When I asked Scott this he replied the VH boot is neutral.
