Iskander - did you undo some laces to slide your foot to the front to see how much space had behind your heel to help assess proper length? That 8D will open up very well once baked. There are people that have worn an E in other brands and the D in Makos worked fine.

Mine rusted within couple months. Hang my skates to dry inside and in dry climate. No issues with my MX3s, Makos, or u+ pros. Think Scott just needs to use a coated eyelet like other manufacturers and the problem is resolved. -

My foot is similar. Really need them to make them almost bit too small (volume wise) for best fit. Mine start to feel bit loose about mid way into a game. I get better fit with my MX3s due to being able to pull the boot closer to my foot via the laces. -
Jimmy, if the CAG only puts a flat spot on the blade and doesn't make sure the blade is say a 9' radius, what is the benefit of having it done?
-
I found a LHS that uses the CAG One for doing profiles. Searching here and online gave some info but not as much as I'd thought. I know the shop will recommend something to me but I'd like to have an idea from experienced users of it what is a good idea vs. bad idea. My skates are size 8, 272 runner Fusion steel. Will probably switch to some LS4 once more readily available and the breakage issue is resolved. I saw on the Cag site 4 suggestions for my skate size: 25-40 FWD, 30-40 Leaning FWD, 25-45 D, 30-45 Leaning D. No clue what they mean and what is best to start with. I play FWD 85% of time and D 15%. (pick up/beer league) Anyone experienced that can recommend a good starting point?

I think mc88 already sent to VH once or twice already and has been a heavy proponent of them. I had some same issues with mine: constant rivet replacing, rusted eyelets, tendon guards both broke early on. My LHS helped with rivets and fixing tendons but ongoing maintenance time and cost like that on a new skate is too much. Shipping to VH constantly could make a $900 skate quickly become a $1300-$1800 skate. I would not be opposed to trying them again as theimprovements made to the newest ones seem to have addressed the main common issues. One just needs to be aware of potential shipping costs and time without your skate for issues in and out of the warranty period. -
Those Holmstrom's made out of rebar?!?

What Sbecks said. As they postponed retail sales of them till next year due to some reason, I'd wait and not spend the money unless you get an awesome deal from a 1X user that doesn't want them.

Catalogue Review 2015 STX Hockey Catalogue

How have the Stallion shoulders been so far? It seems that most people that tried the STX line at Winterfest preferred the Surgeon line. -
Grade 2 tear in hamstring tendon. Out for next 4 weeks.

Will say they have good service so far. Ordered them late last night and got email from them this morning that they shipped out and suggestions on the use for my skates. Suggested trying with additional shim piece before adhering since Bauer toe box tends to be taller than other brands.
-
I know people have posted occasionally about something to put in the toe box to reduce the open space. I saw these being reviewed on youtube. Nothing amazing about them it seems, but someone that is commercially selling a solution made by Adrenaline Design. I've spent far more on many a dumb thing so I ordered a pair to test out as I hate the open space feeling above my toes. I'll post a review once I get them and try them for a bit. So you can see what they are: (mods remove if not allowed) http://adrenalinedesign.ca/powerfoot/

Sounds like might be production capacity issues if unable to sell separately until 2016. Bummed, I liked it when I tried at the Bauer Experience. -

My LHS used a dremel to get out the existing rivet. Just made a tiny hole in back and then used a copper rivet through that hole and applied a little additional glue to lower part of tendon guard to secure it more. So now the end of the copper sticks out the back of the tendon guard. Doesn't really look unsightly at all and was a cheap fix. -
Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener

If I had a household of kids playing too I'd grab one. For just me it's not worth it yet as my LHS only charges $4 a sharpen. -

People buy cars, appliances, airline tickets, hotel rooms, meals, etc every day for a different price than their neighbor, buddy, teammate, aunt & uncle and no one seems to stop buying those things even though you could say everyone that paid even 1 penny more than the lowest sold price got "cheated". Focus on did the item at the price offered provide the value you were looking for to be satisified. I'm willing to pay more for convenience, quality, service, support, timeframe, etc, etc. If these skates fit you best or you think they would, then any extra amount spent (if any at all) would be worth it. If not, then deal with a painful skate or pinch pennies and buy a $299 skate or clearance model online and hope it fits well (and when you buy it with a 15% off coupon and a week later your buddy got it with a 20% off coupon don't feel cheated). -

Carbon are thinner from heel to toe. Speed Plate is thinner than yellow and probably in between yellow and carbon. -

The Speed Plate is nice. I tried it out on ice for about 40 minutes. It is a great option to choose from for a higher end footbed like Superfeet or CCM's. To get some moldable customization at about $50 isn't bad at all. I was surprised it was thinner than I thought it would be. Maybe just a tad thicker than the formfit footbed but not much. It was thinner than the superfeet or ccm are. -
