16. New York Rangers!!!

Was it just me, or did Bettman shudder (sp?) a little bit when he opened #16 and saw NYR???

Aside from Florida, Ottawa, Vancouver, and the Rangers, it looks like most teams got slotted decently enough.

Good day for the Ducks, not only do they get #2, but they get #31 since Tampa was left with the last first round pick. Prior to the lockout, the Ducks traded Vinny Prospal for a 2nd rounder.

The Rangers will have three picks in the 40s, Philly's (Malakhov trade), Toronto's (Leetch trade), their own.

man im like so excited now that im shaking - i only live an hour from pittsburgh :P :P

now i just hope sydney crosby doesnt pull a "lindros" and pass up pittsburgh, although i dont think he is the type that would do that - also who would pass up a chance to play with lemieux?

as if the penguins didnt already have enough ammunition for needing a new arena - this is just going to add to the fire (and if they bring straka or lang or kovalev back as well)

a great day for pittsburgh! now people just need to start coming to the games

Wow, Edmonton got screwed on this one again. Don't really have a stand out great prospect coming up, and they get 25th. Woo hoo.

Man... Crosby in the burgh hurts. I can't imagine a less appealing place for him to end up from a league standpoint.

It'll get a new building, and save the league some face by not having Mario's team move.

From my perspective its obvious where I would have liked him to go. For the NHL LA, NYR, Montreal, Toronto, Boston would have been best.

What about Robbie Schremp, Jeff Woywitka and Marc-Antoine Pouliot??? Those are standout players, especially Robbie.

as a penguins fan i'm freaking out. crosby, malkin, + fleury makes out for a bright future for the team. but from a "save the nhl" standpoint, it is kind of a bummer.

I don't think he'll be at pittsburgh very long though i give him a 3 season maximum while he improves to a possible 100point mark then he will get traded IMO

Shremp's got good talent but his attitude is questionable, although I think he'll still pan out to be a decent forward. A Mike York type 60 point a year player, tops. Woywitka is going to be a good defensemen, but he just doesn't stick out to me like an all star player. Pouliot is going to be the best out of our biggies, IMO, but even how good is he going to be? He does have a load of talent, and scored a ton of points playing with crosby, but on an oilers team with hardly anyone to set him up or for him to setup he ain't no sure thing. By stand out I meant like bonafide, number one line, all star caliber player. Sure, any one of them could break out and become stars, but we definitely need some more good prospects.

Obviously I wanted him here in LA, but 11th overall ain't bad. We've also got the 49th pick as well. I'm happy.

I would have been PISSED if he went to the Ducks though....lol.

I jinxed it for my team (Vancouver) when I high fived my buddy celebrating being in the top ten...then guess what happened....we get selected #10!

Once Vancouver was out I was cheering for Montreal...close, but no cigar.

I have to admit having a laugh at the expense of some of the teams at or near the bottom.

I don't see him getting traded...He'll play out whatever contract he signs in Pitt...no worries there. But in the new "where would I like to play" NHL...I see him getting to Montreal when he is a UFA for the first time (at 25). I know I've said it before, and I knoe I'm a Habs fan...but I see it happening that way.

btw, to be a 2nd round playoff team and end up with 5th pick...not too shabby. Depending how it goes...Gilbert Brule could still be available. I don't know much about him, but I've heard that he'd be a great addition to Les Habitants.

Mario always play great against Montreall...now we get him AND Crosby, what, 4-6 times next year. Yikes!

Unfortunately, after 7 years he will be gone and the majority of the bandwagon Pitts fans will be gone as well.

The team will be gone before that. Their best hope right now is for the state to require whoever gets the slot machine license in the western part of the state to pay for the arena and give it to the Penguins. As long as the team insists on not paying a dime for the new building, they don't deserve one. A new arena in that town may be the worst thing for the NHL, but they keep doing everything they can to prop up that franchise.

There is limited corperate money in the city and the vast majority goes to the Steelers. All this does is ensure Mario makes an assload of money when he sells the portion of the team that the NHL "gave" him.

i HOPE crosby changes his mind.. however there is no logical reasoning behind this...aside from the fact that he can basically go to any team he wants... i want him to go to Toronto... end our cup drought

Wow Rangers with 3 balls got picked 16th. Shows you the inefficacy of the system. And FL, they already don't know what hockey is down there, and those guys are getting a pick that low. Ouch.
