Do NHL players come to this site?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks.

In the Modsquad community we know we have a wide range of players, retailers, wholesalers and even manufacturers.

I wonder if we have any NHL players in our group? I highly doubt they would reveal who they are, but this forum has a lot of information so I wonder if a NHLer would use this board to get another opinion (or 100) to balance what the manufacturer's player-reps are telling them.

Then again, maybe not as they can probably try anything they want and form thier own opinions.

The reason I ask it I saw this pic and it looks like Morrison is genuinely interested in this Inno stick that Jovo was taping.

Just wondering.

I highly doubt that there is any NHL players on this forum. If there was that'd be pretty cool but, i think Morrision is just chatting it up with Jovo.

I can't see them trying to figure out where to cut their broken OPS to insert a tapered blade :D ... or looking to us for advice on the best curve for snap shots...

I would think that they would have access to a lot more quality information than us, from the company reps and from other players on their teams who have used equipment that they are interested in.

You guys are right about NHLers being able to get better info from other sources but you'd be surprised about them posting on hockey websites. Brent Burns has posted on the Minnesota Wild message board from time to time. Joe Piskula of the Wisconsin Badgers posts (or used to, I haven't been there in a while) on CCM's message board. Think about it, there are guys right now that frequent this site that play in juniors and the NHL isn't that far removed from Juniors or the NCAA level. Again, you guys are probably right but it sure wouldn't surprise me to see someone on here that plays or played in the NHL, especially if this site continues to gain in popularity with the hockey world.

haahaha thats hilarious you just make that assumption... that morrison is interested in jovos inno stick from the picture ....hahahahahaha.

So what do you think they're talking about, Shakespeare?

I would imagine their locker room conversations are pretty similar to mine: Sports, women, equipment, last game, next game, the wife bitching about all the work you haven't done around the house, etc.

Too true...

But then again I imagine the scope of their conversations would be right off the radar for most of us "working class" folk.

I can't really see them talking about repairing their 96 Plymouth Voyager Mini Van or complaining cuz the ice rates are going up at the local arena for the third year in a row.

The wife bitching about all the work you haven't done....now that one is pretty much universal. :P (just kidding dear ;) )

I think all hockey players like talking about sticks and skates, pros included. Maybe pros especially, because their livelihood depends on these things.

So, as jjtt99 says, Morrison could be talking to Jovo about the Inno / Bauer wood blade combo:

- can I feel your stick (some players won't let others touch their sticks)?

- how is the manufacturer rep doing?

- the differences between it and the <brand x> that he used to use,

- why did he go 2-piece instead of 1-piece,

- why a wood blade instead of a composite one, and how is the rep doing?

- why didn't he (Jovo) go with TPS, Easton, Salming, or Mission, and how are their reps doing?

- how is the feel, balance, flex,

- etc.

Also, notice that the Bauer blade doesn't have any carbon fibres etc.?

I noticed that too ktang about the no reinforcement on the blade looks like a nice blade IMO.

Also I seem to get awfully jealous when i see the AHL/NHLer's walking to their car with their gear carrying six of the same sticks taped together, its like well i dont like this lie, flex, pattern, i have 5 left unused, ill keep them to prop up my tent when we don't make the playoffs and i can go camping. <_< Because i never see more than one of a certain pattern of pro returns at my LHS.

It's become folklore in Beantown that Schilling finally agreed to waive his No-Trade to the Red Sox after lurking and then posting on Sons Of Sam Horn around 2:00 AM one night.

There were about twelve to fifteen members online at the time and it took about thirty minutes for him to convince them he was really Schilling. He came out and said the passion was so obvious that it convinced him to accept the trade. He continued to post into at least the beginning of last season, since he felt it allowed him to not be misconstrued, but he became pissed when someone in the media released something he had written on the site. He said it violated the confidentiality of the members.

I can't imagine that Schilling is the only pro athlete that does that.

Andy Ference used to post on the penguins message board I believe his name was hogtracks or something in reference to his love for harley davidsons but once all the puckbunnies found out he was there it was bedlam. I wouldn't be surprised either way (if they did or didn't) I could imagine some lurking though.

I just can't see how a player could resist going online to see what's being said about them. Or for that matter, seeing what else is going on in the hockey world.

When they're on road trips a lot of players bring laptops to keep in touch with family and their agents. They also must check out league and player stats so why not a site like Mod to kill some time between flights?

I once saw a quote from Mike Keane who said any player who says they don't read the newspapers lies. Trevor Linden also said he's a fan of all sports and is frequently online looking at various sport news websites.

Yeah, NHLers are great hockey players, but they're normal human beings as well who must surf. What else can you do when you're cooped up in your hotel room during a road trip? :D

JJ

P.S. Pretty neat stories about Schilling and Ference.

Hopefully they are not snickering at our lack of knowledge.  :)

Trust me, a lot of pros have no idea what they're using.

I've always wondered that, especially some of the farm boys or Americans from hotter states where hockey wasn't/isn't that popular(especially when they were growing up). Even Jordin Tootoo must have been in heaven the first time he had the chance to wear everything he wanted.

Why does that remind me of the stories we heard at Vinnie's in TO? ;)

Here is a link to some behind the scenes pics of the Canucks during an eastern road trip involving New York. You'll see Naslund and Salo with a laptop, along with Linden reading a newspaper and ESPN magazine. A bunch of other guys are reading too, but who knows what.

http://forum.canucks.com/viewtopic.php?t=9...r=asc&start=375

I think to kill some time some pros may make it here every once-in-a-while, but as mentioned, unlike me, they probably don't get much out of it because they have equipment managers and manufacturer reps taking good care of them.

Then again, one of those pics has a few of the Canucks hanging outside a store called Ed K Ice Sports. Perhaps they were getting their skates sharpened :D
