Hossa signs

Recommended Posts

apparantly he'll get 5 this year, 6 next year and 7 million in his final year of the contract. I'm glad they got him, he's their most skilled player, the only thing that sucks is that the sens are probably going to have to unload a quality player or two

How does Ottawa win in that one? Salaries aside, both are 80+ point players, Heatley needs a fresh start whereas Hossa will thrive playing with Ilya IMO. Definitely a lateral move by both teams.

this is really surprising to hear that heatley will be traded. he was definately one of their key players. i always thought he'd end up being the captain of the thrashers. pretty insane if this goes through.

.....also, despite not liking heatley being a thrasher anymore, i think this is really cool to see such a big trade in general. its been a long time since such big names have been involved in a trade without it being about a salary dump. if this is what the new nhl agreement brings about, i think its pretty interesting to see.

Not trying to threadjack, but I love your avatar 43%burnt. Bubbahotep is a great flick.

Now back on topic. I think this trade is a draw. For Ottawa, it's a wash. Great player for a great player.

Same for Atlanta, great player for a great player.

My only thought is Atlanta just traded away their most marketable star. They will have to work to build a new media star and convice the fans that they should love him.

I disagree on a couple points. I think Ottawa wins because the skill is essentially a wash but Heatley has much more grit. That's an area where they have wanted to improve for years. It will be interesting to see what defenseman is included in the deal as well.

IMO Heatley's marketability is skewed slightly from the Snyder incident, but he is definitely more popular in the Canadian markets than Koval/Hossa. The fact that they are both Bauer/Nike guys may create some interesting marketing concepts from them, but who knows.

great move for both teams. atlanta fianlly rid of the media headache of heatley's incident and great for ottawa as chadd said they need more grit. according to donald s. cherry, ottawa, though very skilled, has too many europeans, u need canadian grit.

and to qutoe donald s. again, "europe, great place to visit, stop sending us hockey players"

Now that Ottawa has some grit on the RW, they can try to get more strength up the middle. I wonder who the Ottawa d-man going to Atlanta will be?

god damn it! i thought this new deal would help teams like the oilers even the playing field and if so then why does the rich keep on getting richer!! don't tell me york for peca or brewer plus two prospects for pronger was a high upgrade either. shawn "freaking" horcoff as our #1 center or two backup goalies at best playing in net isn't going to get the oilers anywhere!

I agree. We got a great defensemen and another run of the mill gritty forward. Where's our Jason Allison, or some other big name centre, or winger. I don't think our Goalies are bad with how Conklin has played, but we need scoring like a sonofabitch.

i think the thrashers got the better of this deal because IMO The Thrashers are not gettting the Same Dany Heatley that scored 5 goals in the all start game a few years back. And then De Vries is just a throw in.

How much does Heatley count towards the cap?

And, his recent injuries include one ACL and the right eye?

Awesome move for both teams. I still remember that one goal Hossa scored against Toronto in the playoffs where he stopped at the hashes and sniped so hard. He's gonna be so prime with Kovalchuk on his side, but who else? Savard?

word.

i'm assuming by making this move the sens don't have to unload redden anymore? good move for both teams, but down the road i think heatley will be better. more grit, defensively sound, and captain or assistant captain material.

you left out one other thing.... law breaker. ;)

i for one would rather take hossa.. that guy is solid as a rock when it comes to injures and is a lock for mid 30 to 40 goals a season and 50 isn't out of reach. he also has no problems on or off the ice... remember when heatley went crazy during a game when he was over seas. i can understand the money problems that the sens had to deal with but if money wasn't a problem i would pick hossa over heatley anyday.
