Least durable equipment you've had

Recommended Posts

Since everyone's having fun with the most durable equipment you've ever had thread, lets try the flip side.

What's the least durable equipment you've ever had? I imagine we'll see a lot of Vapor XX posts, but let's try not to soley focus on skates.

My entry has to be these Louisville shinpads I bought my senior year of high school. Blocked a shot, my knee hurt a bit more than I thought it should. Went to the bench, puck shaped hole in the left knee cap.

Took em back to my LHS, they gave me a left pad. Next game, I drop down on one knee kinda hard. Took a peek on the bench, left knee cap was split almost in half.

Took em back to my LHS. Gave me another left pad. Next game same thing happened. Dropped to my knees, crack! Went back to LHS, they pulled them all off the shelves and gave me my money back and let me keep the pads.

I probably still have one lying around the house somewhere.

I assume that it was a defective batch, but 3 shinpads in 3 games? Gotta be a record.

Other than that, I used to break woodies after 1 game all the time. (now they last me forever...weird.)

I bought a Pro-Stock Novius (from a fellow MSH member). It was painted like an 1100 but had the 24/300 novious sticker in the bottom part of the shaft. I used it for 1 stick and puck and 2 games. It broke midway through the 2nd game. No way the fellow MSH poster who sold it to me could've known though. Before it broke I was really starting to like the way it felt and performed.

My Vapor I lasted me about two games. They're something about those sticks I liked. I guess thats why I bought another and the same thing happened. ;)

I had a Hespeler woodie that broke recieving it`s first pass from a puck......a waste of $25.00.............

I know it`s an ice hockey forum, but also had a Mylec Pittsburgh Penguins/Randy Carlyle stick that broke two inches below the butt end of the stick the day I got it, never seen anyone break a stick or shaft like that since.............

Then you haven't been watching many of the bears games lately. The RBKs and Vectors were breaking there constantly last year. :D

I had season tickets to the Bears last year and the year before, I`m thinking that`s why I have a major aversion to CCM and Reebok sticks now........Most shafts break down at the kick point or from the bottom half down, this one broke on the upper hand, not even a full palm width, almost like holding the butt end of a aluminum/composite shaft, just was a junk piece of wood.............................

At the games I attended I saw a lot of the RBKs snapping right under the top hand. During the Norfolk game around New years there were 5 broken sticks on the ice at one time, talk about a bad shift.

well i think i had a si core that lasted me 11 shots and i think 4 or 5 of them were wrist shots and than i had a synthesis blade and it got really really whippy i think after about 6 games it felt like a 40 flex when it was a 75. i love the synthesis blades but hate the shafts.

I must say my 2 Synergy SL's. Both of them cracked right on the top of the blade, just as the shaft meets the blade i should say.

Chadd's right about the RBK sticks, I went to alot of wolfpack games last year and Nycholat broke about 3 a game 6" from the top of the shaft. Also one time he went to pass the puck and all 4 sides of the shaft came apart at the tapered end(very wierd if you ask me.

My RBK 6K has lasted since January,it has seen alot of ice time also.

Back on topic, least durable shaft was the Red Gretzky Silver Tip Junior Aluminum Shaft,I was in squirts took a wrist shot and the top of the shaft broke.

I played pickup with a kid a few months ago, right when the RBK stuff started to come out and that happened to him about halfway through the game. "That's a strange place for a OPS to break", I remember thinking.

I had a '04 Synergy blade snap on me after about 20 shots. The Warranty Replacement model I got was a tank though, until it was stolen!

I broke a Easton woodie I won in a tournament on my 1st shot...lol. The thing must have been a 75 flex or something like that in a SR. model.

Let's see... Z-bubble intermediate that broke when it got hit with a shot, I just felt the puck hit off my stick, it took me about 30 seconds to realize my stick had broken... The ironic part is that I got it like 35 or so days earlier, and it was during the summer, so like the 4-5 time using it. The night before I asked my dad why I didn't get a one piece, when the z-bub with z-carb was more expensive. He said if the blade broke we could at least get a new one, next day the shaft broke.

I also had a pair of V-12's that completely broke down on me from March to July. And I didn't wear them save 3 times maybe in april and may.

I also snapped a kid's 5k one piece from a body check the second shift he used it. :D It was a festival and Rbk was letting people demo samples so it wasn't a problem.

You can't judge sticks soley on how long they last, you have to remember, many a$$whipes, over-flex the sticks too much in the LHS's, weakening them. Then you, unsuspecting buyer, pick one up and it breaks first time you use it.

Morale of the story, don't flex sticks in the stores, it proves nothing!
