who else was great at one timing the puck?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking with Brett retired, you don't see a player who made it a career just one-timing the puck like he did...

who else was/is good at one timing the puck?

brian mccabe comes to mind...

I am biased, but I say the man with the best one timer now may be Mathieu Schnieder.

The best I've ever seen: Joe Mullen, with the Flames.

In Calgary's Stanley Cup win, Al MacInnis would set up for the slapper on the PP (right point) and send it hard in the seam to the top of the left circle. Mullen would one-time it past Roy. Over and over. No chance for the Habs.

Recently: all the players mentioned above, plus Shanahan.

Neely's one-timer was good but Hull's was the best that I remember.

Others of note:

Bossy - between him and Hull for the best

Lafleur

John Ogrodnick

Reed Larsen

Shanahan

Bourque

Excellent choice on Mike Bossy. #22 possessed the best shooting skills I have ever seen. HIs one timer, snap shot, slap shot, wrist shot were all deadly accurate.

Guy LaFleur is also a top pick. Here is an Old Time Hockey story: Early 70s, the Canadiens are playing the Rangers in the playoffs. The Habs have an off day practice open to the public at a local north Jersey rink: The Bergen Mall Ice Arena. The great Canadiens are there: Lemaire, Robinson, Lapointe, Savard, Frank and Peter Mahovlich, Ken Dryden and backup goalie Bunny Larocque. The last 20 minutes of practice Coach Claude Ruel is in the corner feeding pucks continuously to a right winger for one timers: the rookie Guy Lafleur. I will never forget watching Lafleur take shot after shot after shot on Bunny Larocque. BTW, Lafleur came with even greater hype than Crosby. Imagine being compared to Jean Beliveau!

Murray is the first player that comes to mind for me. McCabe has been that way this year, but I never really noticed his "one-timer" before this season. He's always had a good slapshot, but no one-timers without Kaberle. I'm thinking Shanahan may be thrown in here as well as a primary "one timer" player.

Peter Bondra scored like every power play goal for the caps with a one timer from the face off dot. By far one of the best one timers as shown by his power play stats over his time with the caps

I can't beleive NOBODY mentioned the leading left wing goal scorer in history.

Friggin' Lucky Luc! C'mon guys! You have to know that playing with Gretz, a great many of those goals came off one-timers. Not to mention a few "lucky" tip ins.

Seriously though, in his hay-day, Lucky could pump shots in the net from anywhere on the ice in any shooting position.

Just about every time I watch highlights on TSN and Kovalchuk scores, it's a first-timer bullet.

His wristshot is pretty decent too... would love to know how strong a guy like him is. Arm's wrist's etc, just to see how much of it is skill compared to strenght.

Rob Blake has a great one-timer from the point. He scored tons of goals that way in LA.

Also, Ovechkin has a solid one-timer on the PP.
