how does this wider foot concept work? why can't companies just make them the same as the previous width measurements.

i might be way off... but are you saying they should have made this skate the same width as the XXX? if so, that was the biggest problem with the XXX's is that not very many people could wear them because they were too narrow. thats the point of having this skate be wider in their standard width.

Not everyones foot is the same. And they have different model skates for different feet...Vapors, Flexlites, and Supremes all fit differently for different shaped feet.

The "mold" or specs that they will form his skates to.

They took the measurements and foot traces and constructed a last. Then they build the skate from the last.

If the skate has a last, then I'm assuming the boot is is not full composite construction like the KOR, correct?

Every skate is made off a last - even composite ones.

The KOR's are made off a mold, not a traditional cut last.

Yes, but it serves the same purpose. You need something in between the boot to build off on.
