Stick for a tall man

Recommended Posts

I have a guy that I play with who has only used wood because of his height/weight. He is 6'5" 275lbs. He is looking for a new stick that would suit his height but is having a hard time finding anything besides cheap wood sticks.

What OPS would be a good option for somebody that tall? We have looked around here and haven't found anything suited for his height so were going to have to order online. Weight is a factor. He is looking for something light (but honestly, he would think that anything is light after playing with the heavy lumber that he's been using).

Thanks ahead of time :)

He's my height and for OPS I've had the most luck with any pro return because they run longer. Still have to use a good-sized buttend but it beats hunching over like a troll.

i dont know ive seen some CCM OPS and there pretty huge, im 6'2" and i had to cut like almost 3 inches of it and those are pretty durable if you ask me, the CCM's and the Rbk's are pretty long but the Rbk's have the shitty thin end part of the stick so i dont know about that

I don't know about their OPS, but I just got a Salming tapered shaft that is 3 inches longer than any of my Inno tapered shafts (I think it's about 56 inches w/o end plug). Cheap, too. I would think with a standard butt-end it would be long enough.

The new standard shaft is almost the same length.

CCM Vectors have long shafts as you usually have to cut them. In his case he could look into that and put a wood plug in it.

The Salming G1 OPS I have is even longer than the CCM Vector I have. I'm 6'2" and like my stick to come up to my chin when on skates and the Salming does that without having to add a butt end. If you're 6'5" a butt end should take care of any additional length needed.

Yeah man, tell him to try CCM. I'm 6'6", and use a vector 130 OPS and a Vector 10.0 tapered shaft. I have a standard 3 inch composite end plug in each, and they're perfect for me.

I would highly recommend trying them out.

You measure your height with skates on ? Heck, a lot of people are probably 6'4" with skates on. Ha. I'm 6'3" barefoot--I need to start measuring with skates on. As far as stick length it's all PP. I cut off 1" on a standard Easton.

I'm not speaking from experience here since I'm only 5'6", but consider the Sher-Wood 9050. It's extra long, extra stiff (that's what she said), and it's probably one of the most expensive woodies out there, so it's definitely not a cheap one.

One of my teammates is 6'8" and that's one of the sticks he's used. He also seems to like the Fury brand of OPSs. That's the company owned by Keith Primeau, himself a tall guy at 6'5". I'll take a look at the other sticks my teammate uses and I'll keep you posted.

I'm 6-1 and I needed to put a plug in the Fury I had. Decent feel but the performance is below average.

as bgm said its all pp. i'm 6'4" and i cut an inch off my warrior and inno 1100 tapered shafts.

lie makes a huge difference too, but that also factors in to the PP thing.

I'm 6'4", and I was able to find Crosby and Coffey Sher-wood 7000s that were perfect on the rack of my LHS. Didn't have to cut anything. They're wood. Not sure of your preference.

Tell him to buy two shafts of whatever he chooses and then get them combined with SRS. :P I'm sure that would be long enough. ;)

i honestly wonder, like buy 5 ultra lites, cut one into 4 equal pieces and have them connected to the other 4 shafts, then cut to height, anyone think thatd work?

AHA.....something I am able to comment upon.....

I am 6'6" (w/o skates) and like a long stick. I have a Mission M-1 with a 6" end added on and it is super long. I play D and like a long stick. I have only ever seen one guy around here with a longer stick than I use, and that guy is 6"5".

Lie does factor in too here....so it would be tough to buy without checking the stick out in person.

I have checked out the TPS Adrenaline.....they seem to be the longest retail stick in my lhs in my opinion, and my store has pretty good selection.

Having said that though, I bought a Synergy ST and am trying it with a 3" end. Jury is still out due to the newness of it. Stickhandling seems easier for me but I lost some of my poke-ability in my own end.

Maybe the thing to do is try on a pair of skates and walk the stick rack? I would think a 3" - 6" plug should make most sticks useable.

Wish him luck.

Cheers

Actually, I was thinking about the exact same thing today. I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially if you added the 'extra pieces' to the top of the other shafts as opposed to the bottom.

exactly what i was thinking, add them to the top to like 110 flex ultra lites, not like itd change up the stifness, if i get desperate....
