Best Skill Move

Recommended Posts

Just share with us what's your best deke/skill you can do on ice.

My special deke is when stickhandling, I pull the puck back between my legs and push it to one side, do a spin-o-rama and that's me just beat the D.

Ovechkin moves. Plain and simple. The "throw the puck between the legs" one is my favorite. Then I do his shootout move on breakaways

That one doesn't sound so hard. What's your success rate?

90-95% in practice 0-1 in a game but the goalie came out and stacked the pads and tripped me ( i got a penalty)

its a fake between the legs shot is the easiest way to describe it

my repetoire is not vast, so my best move past a defenceman isput in on my backhand away from my body, hold them off with the other hand, and use my speed to get away.

1-0 i will hold it out to the side on my forehand, bring it back in fast then back out, 75% of the time the goalie will have positioned himself to butterfly across the goal, so will leave a big gap to just put in.

I typicall do that move on my forehand. hang it out there on the left side with my left hand, shield with my right and skate away from the D. After I get around them bring it back to front of body or put my right hand back on to shoot, and if I run out of ice, just bury everything into the goal(ie) and see what happens.

I tried the leg lift fake sell .. it works quite well. My other breakaway move is coming in from the left (I shoot right) and crossing the net about 3-5 feet in front of the crease, then I shoot about halfway up the post on the left side. It works more times than not.

I pretty much just do the Ovechkin goal where he scored on his back against Phoenix, if I am in a shootout I do that aswell and it always works, I have never screwed up doing that yet B)

I love doing that one theJackal, it works every time if you get a good shot off.

Other ones that I like are Ovechkin moves such as on a one on one I will pull it behind and thru my legs, which works 90% of the time. I also like the leg lift on a breakaway as Ebondo said. Also if I am coming in on the left side (facing the goalie. I am right handed.) I do the Iginla thing and pull the puck close to my body to change the angle and shoot it short side.

the only two that i can do with success (left hand shot)

1) coming in on the d hang the puck out wide on your forehand. toe drag it slightly back and then into your feet. Kick the puck forward with your right skate, usually right between the dmans feet, skate around him on the right and pick up the puck. Usually i'll set this up with a crossover or a slight turn to get the dman to open his stance up a little bit. You have to keep your head up tho, a good defenseman will try crunch you.

2) The other one is a bit safer. I set it up the same way hang it out on the forehand. Toe drag it back, but instead of into your feet put it right through so it comes out on your right side (back hand). Grab the puck and skate around him. This one is easier because you can set it up with a slight turn or just a fient or dropped shoulder to the left. and most defenseman cant move latterally fast enuogh to catch you as you sprint around the outside.

On shootouts:

Sometimes, I leg fake to sell it, fake to my backhand, and bring it back to my forehand to put it top left corner right over the goalie's blocker (I'm a lefty). Other times, I leg fake and bring it back over to my backhand to shoot it over the glove.

I think I'm about 6-10 combined in practice, and on actual breakaways with the move (in games), I'm 1-3. One time in a game with 10 seconds left and the score tied I hit the post. I wasn't too happy.

We have a finesse players on our hands! I actually think the bull move is underapreciated its pretty much all the pros do

That's because a lot of the really fancy stuff doesn't work on good defensemen. Sure it works on Souray but most NHLers are going to shut you down when you try to dance.

The best move that works MOST of the time is the fake wrister. One-on-one with the goalie I will lift my right leg (I'm LH) and flex the stick like a wrister, take the energy from the flex and pull the puck to the right onto my backhand and lift it or slide it in. The Jagr also works, where you bring your body over to one side of the net and one-hand the puck with your stick around the other side of the sliding goalie.

I've been working on the most recent Datsyuk amazing shootout goal and man has it worked well. The fake shot glove side then just pull it back the other way and you have the whole net. I also really like shooting low blocker coming in on that side. Just to name a couple...

You're coming in from the LW side, cutting across the goal mouth on your forehand, fairly close-range, and shooting near-side right?

Where are you when you're releasing the shot (e.g. center of the net, a little after you cross the center of the net, a little before..., etc.)?

----------

Like thejackal and forsberg91, I like the fake pass too. On 2-1 or 2-0 coming in on the off-wing side (so I can get a good forehand angle on the net), I look at the guy I'm "passing" to, then I take a no-look shot at the net. I think the key is to not "overshoot"--i.e. don't worry about shooting hard or picking corners, just put it on the net low (on the ice) and let the fake-out do the work because it's not about shot accuracy or power. If you worry about shooting hard or high, you'll wind up like you're shooting or you'll cup the puck like you're going to lift it and that will just give away your intentions. Imagine yoursef sliding the puck gently underneath the goalie, letting your forward momentum do most of the work--think minimal, subtle arm movements (no wind-up), like you're actually passing it into the net, not firing it.

If coming from the right wing.......bean pot.

If coming from the left wing......forsberg to the backhand up under the crossbar

If coming down the center.......jussi jokinen 1 hand.

Of course i've got other tricks too :)
