Best Skill Move

Recommended Posts

I try to get some speed, fake left, then cut to my backhand and wait for the goalie to open up the five hole. If the five hole isn't there, I hold on to the puck for a second longer and raise it top shelf.

After that I try to make sure I don't crash into the boards as I'm usually off balance by then!

Works about 60% of the time.

I've been working on the most recent Datsyuk amazing shootout goal and man has it worked well.

I've been using that one lately, too. Once you get to the point where you can throw it quickly and smoothly, it is disturbing how often it works.

One-on-one with a defenseman, I try something else. If the defenseman gives me enough room and lets me inside the blue-line, I bring the puck to my forehand (right-handed shot) and fake a wrister. At this point, I have two options. If he steps up and stretches to block the shot, I can keep the puck on the forehand side of the blade and try to blow by the guy on my right (KEEP YOUR FEET MOVING! A half-way decent defenseman will have no problem standing you up and knocking you on your ass -and this would be embarrassing- if you stand flat-footed). If he doesn't bite, I take the puck on my backhand (still on my right side, though) and pull it from behind my body back through my feet, using my left foot to kick it back to my stick now infront of me. Now, I throw the puck out to my left, only my left hand on my stick. Again, I have two options. If he goes after the puck, I yank it back between his skates and explode to my right. If he stays square, I just drive hard to the left, set myself for a battle and hope for the best.

on a d man i'll do a bum load of quik stick handles then go one hand and if the d man bite s and llooks at my stick it goes between his legs if not i push it ogff the boards and try to drive around him......on goal i either do the jarko ruutu move or one handed michigan on my back hand then over the goalies shoulder(takes a lot of drop in to be able to pull that move off)

I never get to fancy for one on ones. My best move againt a defensemen is when I come down on the RW, ( I'm a LH shot) I like to put on a burst of speed, go to one hand, then if I see the defensemen is going to try and poke check, or if he has to turn around to keep up with me, then I'll throw it around him or between his legs, this usually works if I'm not knocked on my ass by then. I also like the fake slapshot combined with a quick little toe drag.

For one on ones with a goalie, I like to start on the LW side and go in slow to make it look like I'm going to go across to the right side of the net. Once I get a little past the hashmarks I will put the puck on my backhand, and make it look like I'm going to make a backhand shot, then I will cut sharply back to my forehand and (hopefully) put the puck in the empty right side of the net. Probably not the clearest description, Modano has done something similar to it a few times in shootouts this season.

My best move is pass the puck...

Due to my bad stickhandling and lack of fantasy i usually try to make fast changes in direction and speed while trying to have the puck far away from the D stick.

Basically i try to have the puck far from D stick and trying also to not been hit.

For shootout/breakaway i try the Forsberg (Jokinen?) move where you dont shoot and just put the puck in the net with one hand. Very easy and unespected.

Simple deke backhand to forehand. So far it has worked about 60% of the time depending. My deke forehand to backhand usually gets lost off the toe of the stick. I suck.

well, the most impressive one (i think) that i do is the michigan 360 between the legs (Rob Hissey sp?) works pretty often, but i only try it when the ice is fresh... and in practice of course. ;)

most reliable is the drop the left shoulder (im RH) and shoot high right (HOPEFULLY glove.) that one works about 9-10 for me, so in games if i get a breakaway my team mates always know its coming.

Just share with us what's your best deke/skill you can do on ice.

My special deke is when stickhandling, I pull the puck back between my legs and push it to one side, do a spin-o-rama and that's me just beat the D.

You pull that in games on d-man and don't get rocked? Wow, those must be some crappy defenseman you're playing againts.

Another move that I have completely forgot about. It always gets the D biting. First I lay out the puck to the left( I'm a lefty), as far as my arms can extend (with the puck still on my stick-on the backhand), trying to get the D to commit to it. Once I see them commit to the puck I quickly pull it back in back of me, torwards my body and right behind my feet. Next, while pulling the puck in between my feet (so it ends up in front of me) I do a spin-o-rama counter-clockwise (away from the check) and into the middle of the ice. Somehow I get it to work... A lot of kids on my team have tried it to no avail. I just have a really good imagination then

We do have good defensemen here. It's just I make it more fancier than it sounds :D

Triple deke, Mighty Ducks-style. And I'm fancy, so I usually go glove.

haha perfect gunner staal

for me, Fake the shot Im LH(make sure to bring your leg up-sell the shot)bring it backhand (Goalies always go down by this point) and backhand it upstairs, if you get this upstairs it will work almost everytime

I'm pretty sure that if you ever pulled that on me, you would be headed for the big leagues. I've never been burned on a guy pulling that move. Do you play zero-contact?

We play full contact. Tons of practise was done into doing this move right (2hrs on Fridays afterschool just repeating the same move) and y'know, the more you practise the better you become.

Ha. Best skill move? I'm lucky if I can get the puck out of our zone...

No really, anyway, mine is a 2on2 or 2on1 move. With my winger or centre (I play LW and am a LH shot) we enter the zone at top speed. If I have the puck I put on the brakes at about the hash marks closer to the centre of the ice. I wind up for a shot but pass to our girl who is camped out beside the net. Easy tap in.

If I don't have the puck I set up a la Ryan Smyth in front of the net. My teammate then tries a waist high shot that I 95% of the time knock down and then do a backhand in the net.

Pretty? Not really.

Reliable.

Yes

i'm a big fan of doing a variation of the michigan goal from the top of the right circle. bend down pick the puck up with the blade of the stick and spin to my back hand(RH) and let it fly. If it goes on net then i goes in almost every time.

last summer in a game on a break away my brother pulled the Rob Hisey and scored (funny thing some kid tried to jump him after, and my bro also pumped the kid)

id say for my skilled move is going outside then cutting hard to the net, much like Bertuzzi, since my leg is broken ive been working on the datsyuk backhand drag while in a chair...other moves i plan to master this summer is the kovalchuk/ovechkin fake then snipe top cheddar, also in a red wings shoot out i believe williams and datsyuk pulled off twin dekes, back hand to forehand almost like a one timer, dandy move

You're the second guy on here that's talking about repeatedly using these crazy moves like you have all the room in the world. What kind of league are you playing in that allows for that? TiGirl is the only one that talks about doing things that work consitently (and I'd agree with her, there is nothing sexier than an excellently re-directed shot from the high circles, especially on the rush). I would think that women's leagues would have more room for crazy things like what you guys are talking about.

Oh well maybe I'd have to watch a few of your games to see what kind of pace we're talking about here. Right now I'm imagining like roller hockey or something.

Pulling stuff like that in practice or warm-ups is one thing, but in a game?

Why don't you just paint a big bullseye on your chest? ;)
