Pretty much everything I thought there would be...no big suprises. But I do think Draper should be up for the Selke and Spezza up for the Lady Byng.

I thought Lundqvist was the most serious challenger to ovechkin for the Calder, simply because with jagr out for a few games and lundy in, rags were winning, with jagr in and lundy out, tailspin.

So it wasn't all jagr in new york.

And here he doesn't even get a nod for calder, but a tip of the hat for vezina.

Curiouser and curiouser

Despite being deserving of the nomination, the rookie big three were determined long ago and Lundy wasn't one of them. I am surprised Yzerman wasn't nominated for something as this was expected to be his last season.

Nominations usually tell you the winners of the lesser awards though.

AO gets in the Person finals, means he's winning the Calder

Kipper gets in the Hart voting, means he's probably winning the Vezina

I have a feeling Stevie Y will get the Bill Masterson Award

Actually Stevie Y won it in 03 Brian Berard had it in 04 which was the most recent award. But I still stick with Stevie Y getting it like Chadd said it's probably his last year and it would be surprising if the league let him go home empty handed.

In regards to Lundy in the running for the Vezina as opposed to the Calder, I think it can certainly be argued that the Calder is the much more competitive award this year.

You could say that. I believe Pierre and TSN's constant fellating of Phaneuf really helped his visibility. He's a good player but Lundy was phenominal this year.

AO is a lock for Calder. What does it matter who 3rd pick was?

BTW, you give Pierre Maguire way too much power with that statement.

I disagree...

I think Chadd is right. Whenever I was watching center ice and the flames were on, he'd talk about just how wonderful he is every day. Not that phaneuf is bad, it's just that lundquist didn't get any publicity until the swedes won.

It's not P-Mac, the entire network constantly promoted him. More often than not it wasn't Iggy or Kipper in the promos for Flames games, it was Phaneuf. Don't get me wrong the kid is damn good, I just don't think he is quite as good as the hype machine claims.

Also, in the first, oh, 5 games of the playoffs, Phaneuf did NOT play well. At all.

He's a good player, and will be a great player. Just not right now.

you could knock Ludquist the same way, probally part of the reason he wasn't nominated. If he was playing well and the rangers won, I would bet that he would have been named.

As well as the fact that the NHL nominates the players. So TSN and Pierre can say great things about anybody, the NHL makes the picks. I doubt the NHL is choosing these players based on any networks' pre-game hype machine.

I thought the "finalists" had the three highest vote totals. IN any case, there would have been a huge uproar from the Canadian media if Phaneuf wasn't nominated.

The NHL picks the finalists and the Professonal Hockey Writers vote for the winners. "A huge uproar," sometimes we act like this stuff is so important.
