So during the 3rd game of the stanley cup finals, watching the 1st period intermission the reporters tell us about a Joey Moss for the Oilers. Hes like a equiptment manager / clean up./ etc.

Gretzky brought him into the organization. But I think he has learning dissabilites.

I think its pretty nice what the guys of the oilers except him the way they have.

The reporters ended the review by saying that he could be the MVP of the team???

Moss has Downs sydrome. He works for the Oilers and the Eskis.

He's the "lockerroom manager". He's the heart and soul of the team, just as much as Smyth and Moreau.

hed always go into my dads back yard and take his bike and ride it around for a bit. then my dad would have to go to joeys place and ask for it back

They had a pre-game feature about him on CBC. Joey has been there for 25 yrs, got his break because Gretzky asked the equipment manager to do it as a favour, and won the NHL "7th Man" award recently, presented by Gretzky...

Yeah, he's been around for ages. Joey was even in a commercial with Wayne Gretzky. Orange juice or pop commercial or something like that I believe where at the end Joey handed Gretzky a towel and Gretzky said: Merci Joey. Quite a story indeed and a perfect exemple of what us "normal" people can do to make life easier and fuller for people that were not has lucky as we were at birth.... People see people with disabilities as aliens and seem to be afraid or embarrassed to look at them, talk to them let alone offer them jobs or friendship.

The guys and girls distributing mail in our office building all have some disabilities, mostly mental, but they're cool and friendly and funny for the most part. It always seems to make their day when someone actually takes the time to salute them and chit chat with them. They are people to the same level as we and should be treated as such IMO

great kid, as someone who has a brother who is mentally retarded (although not Down's) it is very touching to see people respond and treat people such as Joey Moss well and with care....

even more amazing is at his age, his folks likely were told to just put him into an institution...mine were and the bro has turned out to be fairly high functioning in many ways (although he will always have to be cared for..) in fact we were even considered for that Ultimate Road Trip promo with Baby Ruth (MLB)
