What would you have done

I was playing in a typical adult leauge game. It is a good competition leauge, best around here (not that that is saying much). So anywyas, there is a scrum in front, and I get pushed onto the goalie (I could have stood my ground, but why should I have) and I fall right onto him. The guy who pushed me onto him goes oh fuck nooo. He was about my age, and also a skilled player. He starts pushing down on my helmet and roughing me up. So I turn around and grab his cage trying to rip his helmet off. By this time we both get up and I get his jersey over his head and im giving him some punches, a typical scrum. He proceeds to take his thumb and index finger and attempt to gouge my eyes out. He has his palm in my face... so what do I do... uhhhh I bite his hand. In heindsight, its a dirty move, but he had his fingers in my eyes, and damn, that hurt. All I saw was Tyson biting hollyfields ear off when I was doing it. We both recieved match penalties for the scrum.

HAHA, Im not going to comment on the biting. But when a guy pushes you into his own goalie then says "o hell no"--thats the dumbest thing I see when Im playing. What does he want you to do?

You shouldn't have fought a guy wearing a cage. Call him a pussy or whatever you want, but bad shit happens when one guy has a cage and one doesn't. If you do end up fighting him, simply grab his cage and yank his head up and down for a while. Punching him in the head is worthless. Be honest, could he have kicked your ass straight up? I think I'd rather turtle than bite a guy, but thats just me. You both deserved matches, for what its worth.

LOL Sounds like he deserved it, i can't stand people that push people in to their goalie and then use that as an excuse to try and start something infront of the net.

But eyegauging is even dirtier then biting IMO aswell as the fact that he started the "Dirty" tactics, so i'm not saying that i would have done the same but I would think you'd be entitled to do that!

Oh, i got his helmet off. I cut his nose up real ncie when I ripped that cage off. It was pretty much an even fight. We both got some good punches in. And after the fight, he got free from the ref and sucker punched me when I was skating away.

I know I deserved a match for it, but my eyes are still hurting today.

Tried to harm your eyesight??? what a psycho.

I'm real sensitive when it comes to the eyes & spine since they can't heal like other parts of the body makeing them invaluable IMO.

If he had tried to punch out my eyes, I would have gone completely f**king crazy, either spearing him or doing a strangle hold (from time in the Military), probably both..

And I'm a very calm and straight forward person normally...

People can slash me, hook or whatever, but if they touch any of the 2 above mentioned areas I defend myself with all means possible.

Eye gouging, scratching, biting.....if only that shit happened in a women's league. Screw giving penalties, that's foreplay. :P

LOL

Once the eye gouging starts, it's on. I was taught early on (as bad as it sounds) that eye gouging creates a no rules match where biting should be your first instinct since his hands are in your face. Just next time you play him and there's a small scrum choke the living shit out of him before he gets a chance to do anything.

That's my dirty hockey advice for the month.

It sounds gay, but biting is about all you can do in defence if someone's going cookies and trying to gouge an eye out thru a cage. That's just dirty pool and I'd say anything's a greenlight in retaliation. Watch, now he'll get a staph infection and lose that finger.

Jesus adult league? I agree w/ pretty much everyone else. He started the whole thing by being a jerk, and he goes for your eyes?! You've got clearance to do whatever you can to stop him and hurt him.

Cuts and bruises heal; eye damage is often permanent. I am insanely protective about my eyes, and messing with eyesight means the 'Anything Goes' sign is it. The only time I've gone postal in my life was when I was eye gouged during a rugby scrimmage. Nothing has ever hurt more, and I couldn't see out of one eye for several hours. I not only went after the guy then and there, but got past an assistant coach and got a hold of him in the locker room after the coach kicked us both off the field for fighting. Chased him in the parking lot with a tire iron while assistant coach was trying to take me to emergency. He laughed at me the next day in the hall, and I smashed him across the face with a binder, leaving him with stitches and a permanent scar. Twenty years on, I would still probably run the guy over if I had the chance. That's the only time in my life I've actually wanted to hurt someone.

eye gouging = anything goes. your bite was fair since it's instinct. suckerpunch after? that would have meant all out brawl or a parking lot fight, there's no way in hell i'd let someone get away with a sucker punch.

This year i ended up in a bit of a scrum with a guy and we both got each others helmets off, but then we just ended up tied up and no punches were landed. The refs broke us up and let us go because another fight had broke out, i was just skating to the box and then he came up behind me and sucker punched me in the back of the head. This led to a full out line brawl with 15 games worth of suspensions between all the players on the ice.

This all started because you didn't keep your feet and decided to be a punk and purposely land on the goalie. Point 1 against.

Then, instead of just grabbing the guys shoulder so he couldn't put his hand in your face, you bite him. Point 2 against.

Starting a fight wearing a cage in men's leagues is about as bush as it gets.

Ummmmm.......that keeps his hand out of your face. Seriously, if you don't know what you're doing you shouldn't be fighting.

And yes, you avoid goalies as much as humanly possible.

I will let you from my point of view i agree with Vapor. When i stand infront on the net, and a guy pushes me in direction of the goalie, i'm no questions asked going to go on to the goalie and make it hurt. You may think it may be dirty? or uncalled for. If he wants to play smart he wouldn't push me in any direction of the goalie.
