What kind of socks?

Recommended Posts

What kind of socks do pros wear under their skates?

Do they wear regular 100% cotton socks or those thin Under armor socks that are long and go up to your knees?

I have always wore 100% cotton socks that are quarter cut and am thinking of switching to longer cut under armor socks.

Just wondering what you guys wear and what feels the best.

Thanks

Everyone has different things. I know of at least two guys that wear knee high socks though.

I use the Easton synergy sock and I love em. I have used the ccm socks, although good, it's not any better than the synergy and it cost almost twice as much.

Sorry, I meant to comment on the under armor sock. I have worn them, and the only reason I don't like them is because they went up above my knees. Odviously, this is my own pp. I know a lot of people who wear the under armor socks and love them. Not only for hockey, but all kinds of sports.

I have no clue what the pros wear.

SalmingUSA hooked me up with a pair of Salming skate socks and I cannot bring myself to go back to regular run-of-the-mill cotton socks.

I haven't tried anything else though.

I have been wearing Bauer socks. Very thin and feel like I have nothing on. My question is how do you guys get those other socks over your calves?

I hear ya. I just cant do it. My calves are big but not huge. Does it matter if they are or not over the calf anyhow?

I use thin wikking sock liners that I buy from my local hiking/outdoor store. Way cheaper than the hockey ones and they work just as well!

I have long and short socks, I find the short ones to be more comfortable as sometimes the longer ones can slide down.

Finally, if my socks wik moisture from my feet and the liner of my skates is water repellent -- where does my foot sweat go?

Just would like to add that 100% coton socks are the worst technicaly because they retain moisture and cause blisters. But not everyone has that problem so I will not generalise.

I dont have problems with my feet in regards to blisters or anything like that and I currently use the Bauer sanitary sock. Very thin, just the way I like them. However I was curious about the Wigwam sock. I bought a pair of the U/A socks but they were to thick. My feet felt like they were in an oven. I heard that Defeet was comming out with a hockey sock. Anybody know???

First post, and a few days behind on this topic.

I've been wearing regular cotton socks but looking to change. Is there a skate sock that doesn't have a seam across the front of or the tops of the toes?

Great site BTW.

I use the UA knee high socks. They're awesome. I think soccer socks work just as well because it also provides compression and they're pretty thin(much thinner than my UA's). They're also much cheaper.

Anyone know of a thin sock that isn't slippery? All the thin socks I can find seem to let my foot creep forward-even though my skates fit on the tight side. I used to have a couple of pairs that were like a t-shirt material & almost kind of grippy, but I cant find them anywhere.

Same here. I bought three pairs and love them.

Ones that have a bit of cotton won't move. 100% cotton sucks, but a cotton and polyester blend will give you a better balance of wikking and non slip.
