Easton Helmet

Recommended Posts

It's an Easton helmet?

...that would be unique.

I have to agree... I think that will be their overall marketing point. Their protective line really doesn't feature any innovation or revlutionary design. They stick to the fundamentals but always do them well

You have got to be kidding me. Easton perfected the practice of naming "features" and promoting them, at least in the hockey marketplace. Focus flex, z-air, etc... I'll see if I can find the picture that I have from the trade show that has all of the logos on the wall.

That said, the helmet will pass certification and sell quite well. It will fit some people and not others. Personally, I think it's ugly but I'm not in the target demographic. I'm hoping that it's something that will lead the manufacturers away from the EPP based designs that everyone else is using.

Chadd,

EPP has been the interior helmet standard since the Bauer 5000 broke out in the mid 90s. EPP had been previously used, with great success, in the bicycling industry. It offers lightweight, superior shock dispersal ability, and longer lasting life than previously used interior helmet padding systems. Every helmet introduced after the Bauer 5000 has featured EPP as the focal point of protection. That said, why would manufacturers move away from EPP as a primary point of protection in helmets? What alternative solution do you think is possibly in the future? I have seen the Cascade helmet with its "honeycomb" padding system. We both know there are pros and cons to that system. I don't see a problem with EPP and just wondered why you think its time to move away from EPP.

It has been beaten to death in a few of the previous helmet topics, so I'll keep it very brief. I don't believe that EPP does much to prevent concussions compared to softer foams like VN. I'm not the only one who feels that way either.

You'll never convince me that the slightly better protection added with EPP is worth the downfalls of it compared to VN.

This looks way too much like the intake. The vector looks cooler (Dont know about protection) Sadly I have to wear a 4500 for my school..

SADLY?! If youre still talking about looks, many (including myself) would say you have the best looking bucket there is.

I think it looks a lot like the new CCM Vector helmet as well. Also very similar to the Mission Intake. Since that's the case it will probably sell alright because people are already used to the style. I'm currently in a Nike/Bauer 8500 because it's one of the best for protection. Everything else I have is Easton. I can see myself buying one when my 8500 bites the dust. Won't rush out and buy one though until it's been out for a while and I get some feedback on it on the protection issue.

The 4500 is one of the better looking lids on the market. Protection wise, I'd rather the Intake or 8k, something higher up. Is there even a difference between Cellflex (as in 4500) and VN?

Different concepts of thought on shock absorption. Easton has always had the idea of air as a cushioning agent in their equipment, as has Nike. I've always thought it is a good idea because it also keeps the equipment light and ventilated.

When I was going through the pictures, I initially thought it was a mission intake. I love easton products but this helmet is not unique at all. I hope they make another design, most companies have more than 1 helmet on the market, we may be looking at a synergy and a stealth.

4500's material is dual-density. That's the difference. There's two layers in the helmet.

Nope, one shell, but there'll be different combinations of padding in them.

^^^^

If I see correctly, the 4500 only has one layer. Anyways, I know what dual-density was. But, on every site that sells them, it says Dual-Density Cellflex foam, not VN. What's the difference between Cellflex and VN?

I think it looks great, just seems as if it sits kind of deep on his head. Unless its the angle, it looks like it covers some of the top of his ear.

you almost make it sound like sitting deep on our head is a bad thing. Like the others, i think it looks like the offspring of a nike quest and an intake. alsom, just because you can't actually see carbon fiber, doesn't mean it isn't wound into the plastic or something.

No carbon fibre in the helmet.

Easton's philosophy right now is to get something out there and get market share - not to be the first at the $200 price point.

When will this helmet be available to the public? Will it be out before december? And what prices do you expect that this helmet will run at?

I heard that the vector helmet was not that good.

I was very impressed with it...especially for $90-$100.
