Good Seats > Attention Span

Recommended Posts

Ever notice that in almost every picture of a hockey game that shows some of the crowd, most of the people in the front rows aren't even watching the play?

I just thought it was funny when you see people who payed a hefty fine to get good seats at a hockey game and don't even pay attention. I guess I am just bitter because I have never had the chance to go to an NHL game. <_<

Edit:

Prime example..

Look at the lady.. Lecavliea(sp?) is getting smeared into the boards and somehow the lady who is a matter of a foot away is looking up into the rafters... If I had that lady's seat, I would have a broken nose because my face would have been pressed to the glass during that play.

Allow me to be sexist for a moment. Many (not all) women who go to hockey games aren't really that into the game. They are being nice and attending because their significant other enjoys the game. Guys, if you find a woman who loves hockey, and I mean really likes hockey, stick with her. It doesn't matter how pretty she is, she's a keeper.

Some people are there mostly for the social interaction, they talk to the other season ticket holders and the game is secondary to them. Often, people use their company's season tickets. These people usually end up in the better seats and a lot of the more rabid fans end up sitting upstairs or in the corners.

great point Chadd bout the company tickets but i do know people who use company tix and love the game....Thats why they go to the game and use those tix to their advantage.

PS Thats St. Louis getting crushed against the boards.

I never meant to imply everyone using company tickets was just there for the $8 beer.

Well yeah but people i guess like you said go for the atmosphere and to talk to the other ticket holders

but not everyone does that, i know people who are fans who use those company tickets for the rightful use...TO WATCH A HOCKEY GAME

Its a shame..

I have never had the chance to go to an NHL game live and it kind of pisses me off to see people who have so many chances to go, that they take them for granted.

I am the first generation in my family to give a shit about hockey and I have never lived in a state that had a pro hockey team (Besides MN, but I was only 4 years old).

Chadd:

I guess I cant complain too much. My wife loves hockey (shes playing in beginners league this year :D ). I can always count on her being at my games and supporting me.. Its fun, I get home to sit down and eat dinner and she turns on the game that she tivo'ed and waited for me to get home to watch with her.. Its nice.

Definitely going to have to go with Chadd on his point. We had season tickets and my wife would be scanning the crowd and pointing out random things like "Hey there's Vince Gill" and other non-sensical things. When she would pay attention to the game it'd be things like "wouldn't a fatter goalie work better?" or "that's my favourite player, he has my name!"

Oh well, I'd rather be the bimbo against the glass than those two homos in that old SI picture.

It reminds me when I used to live in Southern Cal. My sis in law's company had a box at the Pond and I could go almost anytime I wanted to a Duck's game because nobody in their company really gave a crap about hockey, nor did their customers. Except of course when they made the playoffs, then I got shut out!

Sadly I moved away.... :(

I am sometimes guilty of this because a lot of the time there's something going on behind the play.

In this case she's definitely not paying attention to the game at all. And I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Fans don't always pay attention at baseball or football games. And even the die hard fans don't.... because of the atmosphere around the stadium.

If she thinks a fatter goalie will work, she may be able to be hired by Charles Wang as the Islanders next GM

No they aren't, but that's another topic entirely. It's more about sharing A passion than just sharing passion.

I've noticed that too. I've sat front row and got the crap scared out of me when my face got smacked with a stick, lol. There was a scrum between Brad Richards, Ollie Jokinen and a couple others and Ollie went down. I leaned against the glass to see what was going on and *whack* Ollie high sticked me!!!!

I can't stand that people go to games like it's a social event. At least respect the people trying to watch the game and stop standing up and playing musical chairs with your friends.

If he's taking a picture its defiantly not where the puck is. Must be of some good looking single mother across the way.

OK... go ahead and tell me I'm being too nice/fair... is it possible that woman in BK's pic is looking up at the jumbotron? Ahh, forget it... if she is she would be looking to see if she was ON it!!

I absolutely hate when people want to talk through a game ... I don't mean when there's a break, but when someone wants to do a running commentary.

So i have a little story,

I went to a QMJHL game tonight here in Halifax, and i had good seats. Not ice level but they're the more expensive seats. The people that were seated next to me and behind me were outrageously bored out of their mind during the game.

For one, heres some stuff i heard..

Look at that little girl in the pink, she's dancing

Well very observant of you, but there's a scrap going on the ice (is what i'm thinking)

Why is everybody standing and clapping

Just a guess, but the home team did just score.

Why do all their sticks break

Well they aren't indestructible.

Wow, look at that screen, the games on it live!

Swear to god that must of been one of the most stupidest things. The clock in the arena has a massive screen to play stuff on, shows clips.. "MAKE NOISE" "PUMP IT" etc.. and during the game, it has the game on it for those who can't see way up in the upper bowl and such.

There was alot more stuff i heard tonight, just don't remember a whole lot of what was said. I truly felt sorry for those guys who had interest in the game, and their better half who didn't even care.

Or she's following the puck just like Lecavalier's eyes, oh, wait, that's St. Louis, isn't it.
