Stick tape

Recommended Posts

I use a thing called bladetape for my blade- it's actually not

For bladetape info visit www.bladetape.ca

Oggie grips- www.oggiegrip.com

I use something similar to the blade tape and I love it. I'm surprised more people don't give it a shot. I haven't seen anyone at my rink using it.

I had tried a similar concept years ago and didn't like it. But this sounds like it has evolved.

What about not having tape along the bottom of your blade... Do your blades stand up over time?

Is their claim that not having water trapped there actually extends the life of the blade valid?

My bud gave me the rest of his Oggie Grip Foam to try. Stuff is awesome.

You have to put tape over that tho', don't you? That puts you back into the problem of the glue residue on tape breaking down the palm of your glove.

Andover black tape for my blade, I prefer the Black Andover tape with the yellow ring, not the white one, because it does not let tape residue on the side of the tape, if you guys know what I mean.

Tape residue - do you mean that annoying strip of tape that breaks off the edge and the dangling threads are a pain in the butt, plus it becomes impossible to get a smooth edge?

I haven't found a roll of tape yet that didn't eventually do that. If there IS a brand of cloth tape that stays together from start to finish, let me know because I want to get it.

my white andover tape and friction tape doesn't do it either. I got mine from eastwesthockey.

I used to not like it as much about 2 years ago, but I just recently tried it again and decided that I didn't give it a very long run.Now I love the retention, and my shot is noticably even more like a cannon than before...

The exposed bottom and top of the blade I find is actually benificial for quick puck movements and shots, because the blade glides more smoothly, and durability Is absolutley not a problem. And for the water drying faster, it only has to do with wood blades cracking open from expansion, that doesn't occur with composites often.

Not to mention, I also bought a couple pairs of yellow ones at a Promo at my sisters' remembrance day tourney, They look awful on my MacDaddy, just like the picture on the site, I traded them for black the next day.

For the most part I'd say tape is tape but I had to re-do a handle and only had comp tape. Whoops.

I made that mistake once too.....never again.

Oh, and for the record I use white Renfrew on the grip and white Comp for the blade.

So wait some of you guys use the sticky tape for the blade? I just never seen anyone do this or ever thought to do this.

David you still do this in the NHL?

That tape in your photo is not used on the blade; it is used at the handle (butt end).

There are two types; cohesive stretch (elastic) and cohesive gauze. Both are cohesive, not adhesive products, meaning that they only stick to themselves. Stretch is spongy, so it feels thicker than the gauze, which is of course thinner.

So the black Andover tape David Perron is talking about is the Gauze one?

I used the spongy for my grip, but I thought he was talking about using that on the blade as he mentioned.

Anyone have a link to the tape he's talking about? Thanks

I'm pretty sure he's just talking about a certain type of regular blade tape.

99% sure he was talking about Andover black cloth tape with the yellow label on the inside (rather than white). Not that it makes a difference anymore as last I heard Andover changed their formula or something and everyone stopped carrying them.

ebay. The seller who has all those srs xxx lites listed sells gauze tape as well

thanks, just picked up a few rolls, i still haven't found a grip i liked yet. Cloth tape feels just right, but leaves residue on my gloves, takimacs are way to thick, and i don't like the spongy feeling of stretch tape. hopefully this will be the happy medium i'm looking for

Just a heads up that about 50% of the rolls I'd got from him I tossed out due to looking like it'd be in puddles for God knows how long.

Stick Fix is where I get my tape, never had an issue with bad rolls, that was probably an isolated incident. I've talked with the owner a few times, he's a really nice guy.

Curious if anyone has found any quality friction. I gave up on it a few years back because noone carried anything that stuck to composite blades that felt any good anymore.

Renfrew isn't bad...but that problem is common and easily fixed. I will usually sand my blade down with a high grit (fine) sandpaper. Getting rid of the finish goes a long way in getting friction tape to stick to the blade. I switch between white tape and black friction. The major issue with friction is that when I go on travel, I wrap my sticks in bubble wrap to help with the rigors of fat lazy airport baggage handlers that think my sticks are practice javelins. I almost beat the shit out of one of them at IAD a year ago for throwing my stick bag. The problem with friction is that it sticks to the bubble wrap...and you now have little bubbles on your blade.

What's the best way to keep from getting tape residue build-up on your palms? Taping top to bottom, or bottom to top. Any other suggestions would be great also.
