College hockey rinks

Recommended Posts

What college has the best fans and the biggest student section?

I would have to say Michigan. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a goalie and play at Yost Arena!

Wisconsin also has a solid atmosphere during games.

our college team here plays at the local ice rink. most every game is standing room only, but these arenas dont compare at all to the huge ones. i want to go to a division one game sometime. the games look awsome. btw ostor, your post doesnt even make sense

Why have you made 3 stupid and allready discussed topics and its only your second day here?

you mahoney all of a sudden?

in D1 id say every top rink is hard to play in, especially the prestigious programs where season tickets are sold.

In D3, id say only the best teams are intimidating to play in. Places that pack 1000+ are hard to play in, as they are small rinks

i think there was an article in a hockey mag (USA Hockey?) that had a poll about the toughest. Marucci in MN was at the top ;). Man those games are fun to go to.

Club hockey doesn't count. Just because They can cram a bunch of drunk hilljacks into a barn doesnt make it intimidating. Unless you're a freshly sheered sheep.

Michigan Tech games are a lot of fun to go to. The student section is pretty much the whole rink, and the Mitch's Misfits (the slightly hooligan crowd under the announcer booth) stand and chant the whole game

Not to mention the legendary Husky pep band filling the voids between action with some amazing songs and spectacles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huskies_Pep_Band

we had a bunch of drunk fans in our balcony pouring beer on the other team and talkin' shit. This team was a whole lot better than we were, but because they were more concerned with beating the crap out of our fans, we managed to be them. So club fans can affect a game as well

I agree with North Dakota. That place gets crazy.

I also agree with North Dakota. WHO WOULDN'T want to go to the Ralph? :D It's by far the nicest arena I've ever been in (better than most NHL teams)! With marble floors, every seat being leather (even in the upper deck), TVs in the washrooms... I wish I was there right now  ....

If only the thread was just about the fans that would be valid. But there are very few club teams that have a dedicated locker room and a dedicated home rink that, in the grand scheme of things, they don't matter.

In NCAA DI, Michigan, Wisconsin and Cornell come to mind. Obviously most DIs put people in the seats, but the student sections at those 3 schools are absolutely phenomenal. Rabid, passionate and knowledgable. If you're ever lucky enough to score tickets to a Harvard @ Cornell game at Lynah, you'll see the environment. Michigan and Wisconsin student sections are a lot like indoor versions of their Big Ten football crowds. They also have a decent group of traveling fans - Cornell's fan section at away games often is larger and more vocal than the student section at most schools they play.

What about Penn State? Don't they have an NCAA club hockey dynasty? Their fans must be into it.

I heard the fans at the MSH Squadron Game were totally nuts, too.

I don't see anything in the question about if the team has locker rooms or not. The question only asked about best fans and student section, nothing about the rink itself. You could even add in Liberty University as a club team. They just build a rink on campus and pack the thing full of crazy fans for every game.

The Ralph is Really nice. I think any game between the Gophers and the Sioux. It doesn't matter if it's in Grand Forks or the Cities. Those games are nuts. Those tickets are sold out instantly when the go on sale. The student sections are vicious during those games.

umw... im with u. from personal experience, playing at Ohio University (especially as a freshman), Iowa State, Illinois. there are some pretty intense club programs. all of those schools drew more fans then the bronco's at Western Michigan (where i played). just because it's "club" doesn't make it less then other places. when i was playing, there were 28 div 1 club programs, and mine was the only one that wasn't the "varsity" program at the school. just that they are all Non Scholarship Varsity. still strong programs, run very well, and get great fan support.

Club hockey teams are flat out useless.

Yea, like darkstar said. I bet any D1 club team would be dying to have you on their roster, right?

We've got one of the top club teams here in my town, and they've definitely got talent...lots of these guys could probably do alright in D3 as well.

Aren't the BU vs. BC games nuts as well?

Yes, BU/BC games are always a tough ticket and nuts.

i like how "BC sucks!" is part of BU's chant.. even when they're not playing BC.
