Best Player you've played with or against?

I played with Wade Brookbank of the Carolina Hurricanes today, and it's ridiculous how good he is i can't even imagine what it would be like to play with more of a goal scorer rather than a fighter because he was making us all look like a bunch of cones out there.

Schremp has amazing skills but always lacked in skating and in his committment. He's spent a lot of time this summer training with other Oilers and NHL'ers in souther CA to beef up and get his body in good condition finally. What was he like to play against?

Hard to make a fair assessment because we were playing on a tiny sheet of ice in a mall. There were flashes of brilliance where you could clearly see he was on another level, but the lack of space really hurt his game. He was never able to get a whole lot of speed or open ice to work with because of the size of the rink. Compared to us, he was a beast as fas as puck possession goes. He was doing the lacrosse stuff in warm ups which was fun to see and dribbled the puck in the air with his stick once during the game and actually made it work by hitting it above a players head and skating around him. Show off.....

I also think its difficult to play in a rec game like that because it is missing the physical element. I imagine its tough to really get into a game when its lacking its usual adrenaline and intensity. All and all I think I expected him to completely dominate, and that was not the case due to the factors I discussed. Can you really blame the guy though? No... he has played at the highest level possible. Compare that to a rec league game inside a shopping mall on a tiny sheet of ice with players nowhere near his ability.

He was playing with Chad Moreau(Ethan's brother) and a few other guys who played wshl and cshl juniors. Supposedly Jarrett Stoll, Kip Brennan, and Ethan will be getting in on a few games this summer while they are down here training. Should be fun.

And just for the record, my team won by 3. B)

Players: I've played against Brian Deesley (former nhl player), a bunch of OHL players here and there, michael catanacci(Sp) and ryan murphy who are suppose to be top 5 picks in the O next year, one guy who played in the top Swedish league.

Goalies: Well I trained with Beau Ericksson for a week this summer. Ryan Carlisle (windsor draft pick), saginaw's next year goalie, miami ohio uni backup tender, I saw Justin Peters, Curtis Sandford and Chris Corozzi (sp) play while i was at jon elkins. Also I trained with a goalie coach Zach Sikich who played ECHL and many more leaugues.

Jean Guy Trudel and Charles Linglet. I'm not half bad but it took everything I had to get the puck away from Linglet 1 time. Its amazing how many useful moves you learn when these guys are humiliating you :lol:

I played pickup against Nathan Oystrick (Thrashers) a few summers ago when him and his Surrey BCJHL teammates were out here for a couple months. He was incredible compared to all of us....no one wanted to go near him because he looked like he could tune us up pretty good if we made the wrong move ;)

I played against Joey Mullen a season after he retired from playing in the NHL. During his last season with the Pens he looked slow and he was struggling to score to break 500 career goals. In the game I played against him, he was quick up and down the ice with little or no effort to score at will. All around great guy. Also out for this skate was Jay Caufield and Peter Taglianetti. A guy on my team tried talking trash to Caufield. Not a wise move. Jay smeared him in the corner, even though it was supposed to be a no check game. He then skated past our bench glaring at anyone else who might have any ideas of trying something. No one else did.

You must be just a couple years younger than me. Seems like if you play A level or Varsity in MN (or even juniors) you have a good list of players.

Best player I've played with is Jim Peters at Vermont Academy. He played for the Wings and Kings in the 60s and 70s. Smooth as smooth could be. Every pass was on the tape. Totally unselfish and tons of class.

I've played with some former Wichita Thunder (CHL) guys and a couple of AHL guys, but no one could pass or skate as smoothly as Peters, irregardless of their age.

i have played with shawn antoski, he was on a lot of different teams.. check him out on you tube. he was in a car wreck and has a titanium forehead now and only playes in beer leagues in marmora ontario canada he lives in madoc. there is another ex nhl there greg terrion not sure of the spelling but he's got a gas station there in marmora. they play there every tuesday. No it was actually at the Palos Verdes Ice Chalet in southern California. Tiny little rink. Tiny. Horcoff, Stoll, Brennan, Moreau, and Matt Greene also played this past summer.

Very cool, Adam - I always thought the Stastny's were fantastic hockey players and first-class guys, and it seems to be rubbing off on the young'uns.

If my little group is able to work out the details for our game against the NHL Oldtimers in Dec/Jan, I should have a pretty good update... if slightly anachronistic :)

anton and peter are indeed great guys, and anton was using paul's wooden sticks and kept bitching about the OPS i was using. "Back when I played, not even cars had the kind of Technology these sticks have" haha. great skaters to. both of them.

Played on the same team (and was actually D-partners) with Brett Bellemore who is playing for Carolina's AHL team. Played with and against a bunch of players who made the OHL, Johnathan Sciacca, Parker Van Buskirk, and Harry Young. Most famous would be Mickey Renaud of Windsor Spitfire's (rip).

played with(spring hockey) and against brandon gormley all minor hockey untill he went away to notre damne ranked in the top 3 for 92's ...lets just say he looked like he should have been in peewee while in novice and he could shoot like it too. not pro yet but give him a few years
